597 MACHINERY & GOODS (VAT) – AUCTIONEER JAMES MORRISH

A fantastic day!

A huge crowd of both vendors and purchasers travelled to Holsworthy from as far afield as Penzance, Chepstow, Bristol, Weymouth and Cardiff to witness one of the best sales seen at Holsworthy for a very long time. Top call of the day was £10,200 given for the P reg John Deere 6100 from the Hamlyn family of West Devon and went off to its new home in Dorset. Next up was the ’16 plate John Deere Gator which powered away to £9,500 going home with John May of Bideford. The Ford 7840 reached £7,600, Ford 5610 c/w loader made £7,500 with the Case at £6,650.

A mass of farm machinery sold to a top call of £8,900 for a slurry tanker with BJ Plant of Winkleigh selling the pick of 23 trailers on the day at £6,900 going off to Minehead in Somerset. The best of the domestic ride on mowers reached £5,000 from one vendor near Newton Abbott whilst Andrew Haste of Shebbear sold his West trailer well at £3,150 going off to Exmoor. 14 livestock trailers saw a top call of £2,800 for a first class 12ft trailer on behalf of Messrs Boundy of North Cornwall and the pick of a huge entry of grass mowers & turners topped at £2,500 for the Taarup turner from Messrs Bailey. Messrs Rural Excess Ltd travelled over from Chepstow in Wales and had a flying trade with a top call of the 200 new tools to £130 for the first of their power saws.

837 MACHINERY & GOODS (NON VAT) – AUCTIONEER DAVID C KIVELL

Quite a day! Another excellent day in this section saw a top of £6,000 given for the very smart Massey Ferguson 135 S reg on behalf of Messrs Gilbert of St Austell and going off to a collector of Massey Ferguson tractors near Bridgewater in Somerset who purchased by bidding over the phone. The Fordson Major tractor in from Beacon farm reached £2,000 with the David Brown 995 reaching £900. 2 snow ploughs sold to a top of £900 with linkbox to £600.

A total of 4 full/part dispersals from across Devon & Cornwall sold very well with a line-up that included ‘something for everyone!’

147 FURNITURE & CLOTHING – AUCTIONEER ANDREW VARNEY A lighter entry of furniture saw a top call of £100 for a ‘porthole clock’ from Mrs Walter of Holsworthy with the best of a nice line up from Copps removals hitting £48 for a table. Mike Baker of Torrington saw his bookcase hit £42 with the pick of the pine kitchen cupboards to £40 on behalf of Messrs Penrose. The clearance from a South Devon clothing shop sold to a top call of £60 for Hi-viz jackets with plenty of purchasers going home with box fulls of goods.

68 PIGS & SHEEP – AUCTIONEER JAMES MORRISH Numbers were tight in the pig pens but trade was tremendous with the top call in the pig pens being £180 given for the pick of the sows from Messrs Dunston of Falmouth, Cornwall. Some excellent prime pigs topped at £140 for Messrs Smith of Launceston with the pick of the young store pigs reaching £66 for a penful of quality white stores (6 weeks) from Messrs Petherick.

In the sheep pens Jacob single couples hit £102 & £100 with small store lambs to £35.

NEXT SALE AT HOLSWORTHY IS ON SATURDAY 7th MARCH 2020 292 POULTRY & 359 PET FOOD – AUCTIONEERS ANDREW VARNEY & TIM KIVELL

Big day in this section with plenty of buyers and sellers keen to trade. Top call in the poultry pens was £35 given for a pair of Orpington hens on behalf of Messrs Guymer with Messrs Nankivell selling call ducks at £32 with the pick of the turkeys to £30 for Keith Wickett of Bude.

In the pet food, 359 lots travelled down with Messrs Fricker of Dorset topping at £17 for Skinners dog food.
