The light dusting of snow that recently covered the
rooftops and branches, transforming Rhode Island and surrounding areas of Mass into wintery landscapes reminiscent of images one would find in a picture book was a beauti-ful reminder that December and January are months full of

magical holiday spirit, friends, family and love! One finds oneself in these cold blustery months drawn to home and hearth, sitting by the fire and enjoying the presence of our beloved companion animals’ warm furry bodies curled against us. We at the Animal Print would like to wish you all a beautiful and peaceful holiday season! We would also like to acknowledge, with sadness in our hearts, that for some the holidays are laced with a sense of grief and mourning for those who are no longer with us, and whose absences we will carry in our hearts forever.
I would like to personally extend my deepest condolences to Celia Cackowski whose loving dog Maya succumbed to cancer this year. Celia, our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with you, as they are with anyone who is suffering a loss this holiday season.
We hope that the heartache felt by some may be tempered in some way by the joy and happiness that brushes past us all on the winds of holiday spirit. Some of that joy is brought about by the spirit of giving, and as we do every year, we have stocked the pages with wonderful gift ideas for the pet lover in your life! Lord & Taylor Bans Raccoon Dog Fur The Humane Society of the United States and retailer Lord & Taylor have reached a settlement in a lawsuit filed last year alleging that several of the nation’s largest department stores and fashion designers have repeatedly engaged in false advertising and mislabeling of fur garments. Pursuant to the agreement, Lord & Taylor will end all use of raccoon dog fur (a canine species often skinned alive in China), and will reform its advertising and garment labeling practices so that shoppers are better informed about what kind of animal fur is present in fur-trimmed garments.
Canine Lifeguards Protect Swimmers in ItalyIf you think of a lifeguard, someone big and
brawny with a hairy chest might come to mind. But on the beaches of Italy, you wouldn’t have seen
Baywatch’s David Hasselhoff saving any lives this summer—instead, if
you find yourself in danger, you just might be rescued
by a Newfoundland, Labra-dor, or Golden Retriever. Italy’s canine rescue crew comes courtesy of the
government’s National Civil Protec-tion Agency, which has sent about 70 dogs to patrol beaches throughout the country. The dogs scan the waters for signs of stress, and, if they see someone who needs help, will swim out to bring them to shore. The dogs wear life vests, so swimmers are able to simply hold onto them to be guided back to shore. If the swimmers in need of rescue aren’t able to hold on, the dogs have been trained to gently pull them back to shore with their teeth.“Canine Life gaurds are not meant to replace human lifeguards, but to complement them.” We’re sure all the Hasselhoffs of the world will be very relieved to hear that.
Swine Flu Infects HousecatAre Your Pets Safe?“On November 2nd, test results confirmed that a pet cat in Iowa was infected by the H1N1 (swine flu) virus, which was most likely transmitted by human family members,”
reports Dr. Louise Murray, Director of Medicine at the ASPCA. “All family members, including the cat, have now recovered. In unrelated incidents in other states, a few pet ferrets also recently tested positive for H1N1, and one of them has died.” Although we already knew that infected humans could transmit H1N1 to both pigs and turkeys, these are the first reported cases of the virus affecting cats and ferrets.

Dear Editor: My name is Susan Parker. This letter is a public thank you to Officer Tammy Mello. Tammy is a very good friend of mine as well as a very good friend to animals. Tammy donates her free time volunteering at animal shelters and is a board member of The Little Rhodie Bully Breed Club Inc.
Tammy has been a police officer for nearly 10 years. She has been an animal lover all of her life but never envisioned that her job as a police officer would be focused on animals. When she investigated her first animal cruelty case she decided she needed to know more. Tammy was determined to find a training program which focused on animal cruelty investigations. A short time later she completed a 120 hour National Certification course at the University of Missouri, Law Enforcement Training Institute and also completed a 40 hour course at the Equine Investigation School. Her favorite part of her job is Humane Education.
Tammy enjoys teaching middle and high school children the importance of responsible pet ownership. She also concentrates on teaching kids that dog fighting is a crime and how to report animal cruelty.
Together Tammy and I do elementary educational shows using my own pet therapy dog Callie Parker. The kids really enjoy our shows!
Tammy is also a mom to her beautiful daughter Kirsten and is a pit bull mom to three beautiful shelter pit bulls.

The HSUS Launches First National ‘Puppy Mill’ Tip LineTo help end the misery associated with large-scale dog breeding operations known as “puppy mills,” The Humane Society of the United States has launched a national telephone tip line and encourages callers to report suspected cruelty or unlawful activities involving such breeding facilities.
The hotline, 1-877-MILL-TIP, is available to anyone with information of a possible crime involving puppy mills – but particularly welcomes information from
those with “insider” knowledge, or from law enforcement officials who might be aware of such operations.
“Puppy mills are a national scourge,” said Justin Scally, manager of The HSUS’ Wilde Puppy Mill Task Force. “Hundreds of thousands of dogs across the country are trapped in constant confinement their entire lives, producing puppies to profit the puppy mill owner. This tip line will be a vital tool to help free these dogs from a life of abuse.”

1. Go To The Vet!“The number-one money-saver is preventative veterinary care,” says Dr. Z. Annual veterinary exams can catch health crises early on and will save you a lot of time and money. This includes heartworm preventative treatment, flea and tick control, and a thorough check-up of your pet’s gums, teeth, heart, lungs and internal organs. If it’s been a year or more since your pet has seen a vet, make that appointment today!
We checked in with Dr. Z. for his take on easy ways to cut pet care costs. “The basics are still the same,” he says. “Quality food, litter for cats and good medical care.” Bottom line? Stick with the basics, and remember—preventative measures are excellent money savers!

2. Give Your Pet Regular Check-UpsWeekly home checkups are a great way to nip potential health problems in the bud. Check under your pet’s fur for lumps, bumps, flakes or scabs. Check your pet’s ears and eyes for signs of redness or discharge. Note of any changes in your pet’s eating or drinking habits. If something seems off, call your vet right away. Learn how to clean your pet’s ears. Brush your pet’s teeth regularly with a toothpaste formulated for pets, and check their gums. Check your pet’s breath. Bad breath can indicate a digestive problem that’s better dealt with sooner rather than later.

3. Vaccinate Wisely “Although certain vaccines are required by law, there is no longer automatically one policy for all animals,” says Dr. Lila Miller, Vice President, ASPCA Veterinary Outreach. “Veterinarians are now advised to assess each individual animal’s risk of exposure when designing a vaccination program.” So before subjecting your pet― and your wallet—to general vaccinations, ask your pet’s vet which vaccines he or she recommends.
4. Spay/Neuter Your Pets “Spaying and neutering your pet will have a dramatic impact on their health,” says Dr. Z. “For females, it dramatically reduces the potentiality for breast cancer, and risk of ovarian and uterine cancer disappears.” Neutering also reduces chances of testicular cancer in males. Not only will spaying or neutering save you on future health care, but it will significantly diminish your pet’s desire to wander and will save you the surprise of an unplanned litter.
5. Invest In Training “A lot of people don’t think about dog and cat training as a way
to save money,” observes Dr. Z, “but a well-trained dog will be easier to walk, will be calmer in most situations and will be less likely to get into things he shouldn’t.” Teaching your dog to stay by your side and to come when he’s called proves far cheaper than paying for expensive emergency care caused by his running off into the street.
6. Save Up For The Future Pet Emergencies: Create a fund for possible emergencies, and deposit a fixed amount into it every two weeks. If no emergencies arise, you’ll be all the richer, but if something does come up, money will not stand in the way of getting your pet the care it needs.
7. Serve Healthy Food In Moderate PortionsBuy premium-quality food: “Buy a good, premium-quality dog or cat food,” advises Dr. Z. “Don’t go crazy,” he says, but remember that cheaper foods will set you back in the end. They are full of less digestible filler material and artificial colors that offer no nutrients and can contribute to allergies and digestive problems. A high-quality, age-appropriate food results in a healthy coat, more energy and fewer costly trips to the vet. Don’t overfeed: This includes resisting the urge to spoil your pets with too many treats! “You don’t need to feed your pets as much as people do,” Dr. Z. reminds us. “One of the things we’re confronting is a huge obesity problem. Serving moderate portions not only saves you money on food it also reduces the likelihood of obesity.”
8. Shop Around Medications: Call the local pharmacy or look online for lower prices. Just be sure to compare quantities and dosages when you’re looking at prices. Veterinarians and Hospitals: When looking for a reliable, cost-effective veterinarian’s office, check out a few before you settle on one. Ask for recommendations from pet owners you know. Most vets’ offices also offer multi-pet or senior pet discounts. Compare fees and be sure to find out what is covered during a routine visit in each office.
9. Groom Your Pets In Between Groomer VisitsExtend the time between visits to your groomer with regular brushings and baths. While you’re at it, you’ll reduce the hair around your home and your cats will have fewer hairballs. You can also trim your pet’s nails on a regular basis. It’s not hard to do, and you’ll likely save yourself the cost of new furniture and curtains.

A mong the birds of Middlebridge the stars are the egrets, the ospreys, the sandpipers, maybe even the various gulls. The crows,
on the other hand, raid our gardens and cry havoc raucously against the skyline. But there is one par-ticular, spectacular crow who has fallen in love with a human being.This unique raven is a cross between two species, one white and the other black. It wears its ebony plumage over a layer of snow-white down--believe it or not.The boy she fell for is a guy named Zack. I’ve known him since he was an infant here in this portion of our ocean state. I met his pet in the loft the two souls share in an old mill. Zack knew I would delighted to meet them as a sort of couple. The bird among therafters scared the stray cats, but totally trusted the young man who fed him and trained him. Zack always has a plan. Somehow, he thinks the smart crow may be able to save the world for her fellow creatures.

I don’t recall quite how, but the most recent adventure of Zack has been to cruise the world upon a home-made raft spreading good words and noble deeds, and eating not from corporate industries but, as the crowflies, from whatever may come his way along his great journey. The launching of his watercraft has hit the newspapers. The tale of the blackbird, though, is a more hidden voyage of the spirit. Zack’s father was once my student and remains a lifelong friend. David taught his sons to admire the landscape that served both as pasture-land and orchard for the farm and also as terrain for the construction of dwellings. The family has lived in the area since colonial times. More, and deeper, he taught his children to protect thedenizens, of fur or feather, who share the spaces of French-town and North Kingstown and the waterways south of that region. We all canoed Narrow River together from North Kingstown to South Kingstown and Narragansett, the areas where the native peoples saw the meaning and sought the inspiration of crows and even also of raccoons. Things we don’t welcome much into our yards.David said to me, “Zachary has brilliant ideas and he follows through, and he has high hopes to help the world of the future. But he’s original, and doesn’t like to base his
designs on the rules of others.He has to start anew and learn from scratch and make his own mistakes and then try again. That’s the way he is and always was.”David went on to fill me in on the romance between crow and artist. “She gets very upset if she can’t find Zachary and won’t take her breakfast without him. It’s strange, I guess, but wonderful too.” I look up to them all. Not only because they are tall, and the loft has a high ceiling, and the bird perches on the highest look-out, but also, and especially, because I like their purposes and their style.In this economy we are focussed on schemes that can succeed in the marketplace. But education is for dreams too. We need our imagination and the community of others who catch fire and passion from our lofty goals, as in a Greek myth. And so, for me, the alliance of the bird that symbolizes wit and thought, the bird whose bust suits libraries and the poems of Edgar Allan Poe and the cartoons of James Thurber, with the lad whose family has always stood for the soil and the sky of Rhode Island and the world beyond our shorelines, gives me Hope and a sunbeam of happiness.

1. Keep your cat inside. Outdoors, felines can freeze, become lost or be stolen, injured or killed. Cats who are allowed to stray are exposed to infectious diseases, including rabies, from other cats, dogs and wildlife.
2. During the winter, outdoor cats sometimes sleep under the hoods of cars. When the motor is started, the cat can be injured or killed by the fan belt. If there are outdoor cats in your area, bang loudly on the car hood before starting the engine to give the cat a chance to escape.
3. Never let your dog off leash on snow or ice, especially during a snowstorm—dogs can lose their scent and easily become lost. More dogs are lost during the winter than during any other season, so make sure yours always wears ID tags.
4. Thoroughly wipe off your dog’s legs and stomach when he comes in out of the sleet, snow or ice. He can ingest salt, antifreeze or other potentially dangerous chemicals while licking his paws, and his paw pads may bleed from snow or encrusted ice.

5. Never shave your dog down to the skin in winter, as a longer coat will provide more warmth. When you bathe your dog in the colder months, be sure to completely dry him before taking him out for a walk. Own a short-haired breed? Consider get-ting him a coat or sweater with a high collar or turtleneck with coverage from the base of the tail to the belly. For many dogs, this is regulation winter wear.
6. Never leave your dog or cat alone in a car during cold weather. A car can act as a refrigerator in the winter, holding in the cold and causing the animal to freeze to death.
7. Puppies do not tolerate the cold as well as adult dogs, and may be difficult to housebreak during the winter. If your puppy ap-pears to be sensitive to the weather, you may opt to paper-train him inside. If your dog is sensitive to the cold due to age, illness or breed type, take him outdoors only to relieve himself.
8. Does your dog spend a lot of time engaged in outdoor activi-ties? Increase his supply of food, particularly protein, to keep him—and his fur—in tip-top shape.
9. Like coolant, antifreeze is a lethal poison for dogs and cats. Be sure to thoroughly clean up any spills from your vehicle, and consider using products that contain propylene glycol rather than ethylene glycol. Visit the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center more information.
10. Make sure your companion animal has a warm place to sleep, off the floor and away from all drafts. A cozy dog or cat bed with a warm blanket or pillow is perfect.

Whether you are an animal shelter staff member or volunteer, a professional dog trainer, a dog owner, or just a general canine lover, you have probably
at least thought about training dogs at one time or another. From the new shelter arrival who pulls on the leash like an out of control freight train, to that adorable puppy who chews everything that isn’t nailed down (and occasionally even things that are nailed down!) and everything in between, let’s face it – most dogs need training at one point or another.
You may have dabbled here or there at teaching a dog some-thing, perhaps you’ve read a few books, or possibly you have even Googled a behavior problem or two. You have no doubt discovered that there is a bottomless supply of books, DVDs, downloads, blogs, and other information available, with many different perspectives, opinions, and schools of thought. In your quest for dog training enlightenment, you have probably come across terms such as pack leader, dominance, positive reinforcement, reward, and others. Many times, there is confu-sion or conflict surrounding such terminology – typically stem-ming from misunderstandings of what the terms actually mean. So before you end up barking mad, let’s look at a few terms a little closer so you can make truly informed decisions about which methods work best for you and your goals.
Let’s begin with the term “dominance.” This term is often used to describe a dog’s general personality, such as in the example: “This is a dominant dog and should not be placed with other dogs.” This is especially true when we make our very best effort to describe a pet’s personality in an attempt to match it to the most appropriate new home possible. How-ever, the term should be used only when describing a specific relationship that has developed between two or more animals.* For example, a dog could be described as “dominant” over an-
other dog if the second dog consistently, and voluntarily gives in to, or appeases, the first dog.* Dominance describes inter-actions in specific scenarios and can change if the scenario changes – it does not describe a dog standing alone in a room.
But what about the concept of putting dominant dogs in their place? Don’t humans have to be pack leaders and maintain control of the hierarchy? Ah ha! There are more of those pesky terms!
Let’s begin by looking at the terms “pack leader” and “hierarchy.” Historic studies of wolf packs showed frequent fights among wolves aggressively vying for leadership or con-trol.* Unfortunately, these studies examined human-made, cap-tive groups of wolves that were forced to coexist, thus resulting in pack dynamics that were not natural.1 In the past 30 years, such beliefs have been refuted by observations of natural, wild wolf packs in which dominance challenges to the leader are rare and pack dynamics appear quite consistent and stable.* Researchers found that wolf-pack leaders typically maintain their positions without ever having to resort to aggression.* Further, there is little data that suggests wolf-type dominance hierarchies even exist among domestic dogs. In fact, it appears that some dog groups have no hierarchies at all!*
Okay then, since it’s unnatural for dogs to be forcefully domi-nated, this means it’s best to use exclusively positive rein-forcement training, right? After all it sounds so pleasant and humane!Well, this is not quite accurate either.
“Positive reinforcement” simply means that something pleasant (like a treat) is given after a dog has done some-thing good (like sit) in an attempt to get the dog to repeat that

behavior again. However, no trainer uses exclusively positive reinforcement training, despite what you may have heard. If someone ever turns their back on a dog that jumps or uses a citronella no-bark collar – they are using punishment, or aver-sive training. But these things don’t sound inhumane, right? Well, that’s because they aren’t!
“Punishment” involves presenting something (usually unpleasant or aversive) in order to prevent a behavior from reoccurring. However, the degree of unpleasantness can range from mild (such as a no-pull harness) to severe (such as strik-ing a dog). This is where judgment must be used in determin-ing how much punishment is too much, yet how and when to apply it in order to be effective while still being humane. A good rule to follow is that a dog should never be afraid or in pain as a result of anything you have intentionally done as a means of training. Then, as soon as the dog ceases the undesirable behavior, they should immediately be rewarded so they not only understand what you don’t want, they will also understand what you do want.
So, in the end, what does all this mumbo jumbo mean? Let’s review.1. Be a strong leader, but there’s no need to do it through force, aggression, or bullying. Predictable routines, consistent rules and limitations, and clear expectations are the best way to effectively and humanely achieve your training goals.2. Reward dogs with pleasant things whenever they do some-thing you like, to encourage them to keep doing those things in
the future. Rewards can include verbal praise, physical touch, play or toys, food rewards, or anything your dog likes.3. When correcting undesirable behavior, use only punishers that do not cause pain or fear. Also, the cessa-tion of the undesirable behavior should be immediately rewarded.
Regardless of what styles of training you use, it is best to research and understand what you are doing and how it works. Talk to a qualified professional who has experience as well as the ability to explain all details and nuances of different training philosophies. Remember, make sure the techniques you employ are effective for getting the job done, are humane experiences for the dog, and that you have a clear understanding of what you are doing and what outcomes you can expect. And don’t forget to have fun!

Seeing that bully discrimination was a national issue, Little Darling, founder of Pinups for Pitbulls decided
to start a fundraising project that would benefit pit bull/bully-friendly rescues, while using her talents and skills in non-profit organization and business, modeling, event planning, and burlesque performing. Teaming up with photographers, models, other artists and performers in her network, she founded Pinups for Pitbulls.Through creating an annual pinup calendar, selling other merchandise, and throwing events, Pinups for Pitbulls, Inc. raises money and awareness to benefit the health and welfare of this largely misunderstood breed. The goal is to restore the former image of the American Pit Bull Terrier as war hero, helper, nanny, companion and friend. Pinups for Pitbulls also seeks to ban BSL, (breed-specific-legislation), and to lobby against dog fighting, puppy mills, and cruelty to pit bulls.

This year, organizers gave teams of photographers and models around the world the opportunity to submit images for the calendar and other merchandise. They had over 100 submissions, and were overwhelmed by the response. “People are very passionate about restoring the image of this breed and helping individual dogs. We heard some great rescue stories.” It was great working with so many people rallying to help raise funds and awareness for bully-breeds. If we continue to sell calendars and hold our events, we can hopefully encourage the public to become more educated about the breed.”

As we reported in our Spring 2009 issue, the 141-year-old Massachusetts SPCA lost 25 percent of its endowment in 2008 and announced in February that the only way to stay afloat financially was to shut its shelters in Springfield, Martha’s Vineyard, and Brockton. Fortunately, other rescue groups have stepped in to make sure that sheltering services continue. The Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society bought the nearly new Springfield building, while the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard has leased the island’s shelter from the MSPCA at no charge and has already begun serving the community. “The process with Martha’s Vineyard was seamless. We shut out the lights one day, and they turned them on the next morning,”says Brian Adams, public relations manager for the MSPCA. A newly formed organization, Animal Protection Center of Southeast Massachusetts, is finalizing plans to assume the operation at Brockton. “We couldn’t ask for a better beginning for these shelters,” says Adams. “The energy, knowledge, and experience of these groups make them fantastic matches for the communities.” The MSPCA will continue to run its shelters in Nantucket, Centreville, Methuen, and Boston, the Angell Animal Medical Centers in Nantucket and Boston, and the Nevins Farm horse and farm animal sanctuary in Methuen.

Dogs, cats, cockatoos, bearded dragons, pigs, ferrets – think of any type of
pet, and we’ll show you one that needs a loving home. According to recent
statistics, there are 7 million homeless pets in the United States right now –
any idea how many critters that is? Add up the two-legged populations of Los
Angeles, Chicago, and San Francisco, and you’re pretty much there. Even if
you don’t have room in your home for one of these neglected pets, we’re sure
you’ve got room in your heart – here are a few ways you can help out.
1. Adopt from a shelter. It’s an obvious one, but it’s the single greatest thing you can do to help reduce the problem. Before you visit a breeder or pet store, stop by your local shelter for a visit with the animals there. Any of them would be grateful for a second chance at the good life.
2. Foster. Already have your own menagerie? Travel a lot? There’s any number of good excuses for not taking in a new permanent family member – but that doesn’t mean you can’t give an animal a nice vacation until she finds a forever home.
3. Volunteer at a shelter. Does your apartment have a strict no pets policy? No problem – there are plenty of other ways to help. From walking dogs to cuddling with cats, animal shelters can always use a few extra hands. Stop in at your local shelter and see what you can do.
4. Spay and neuter your pets. Animal overpopulation is a major problem throughout the world – don’t add your own litter to the mix.
5. Donate to an animal welfare organization. Even if you don’t have the time or space to help an animal firsthand, you can still support one with your checkbook. Donate $20 to your local shelter to help purchase food and bedding, or to a national organization like the ASPCA or the Humane Society, where your dollars will aid the fight to give every homeless animal the great life it deserves.

Hooch is a big friendly guy! He always has a “smile” for everyone and “wags” from head to toe. He thinks he is a little lap dog who likes to sit in your lap! :) We recommend no toddlers and that Hooch be the only pet in the home.
Clint may prefer to be the only pet - he has been waiting for a long time for a new home and family - he deserves to be the sole re-cipient of all your love and attention. We rec-ommend older children. He is housebroken. Slow introductions are a must!

Saturday and Sunday (8am-2pm) are PERFECT for volunteering or any night after work perhaps, we are open until 10pm week-nights (except Monday). 33{In Memory} Saying goodbye to an old friend.
“I’ll go with you.” These words, spoken softly by my friend Kelley, immediately caused my throat to tighten. It was the Friday before Thanksgiving and we were sitting in our favorite bar on the West Side rehashing the trials of the week when I finally admitted aloud what had been distracting me from meeting an important deadline: “I’m putting her down next Friday. At 1:45.”
I first encountered Maya on a remote road in Accomack County, Virginia. Of course, at that time she must have had another name. There was no trash pickup in the small town where I lived so we utilized large green dumpsters provided by the county. It wasn’t uncommon to see feral cats living in and around the “green boxes” but that eve-ning I encountered a very thin dog hiding underneath one of the cold metal structures. The rest, as they say, is history.
Maya had an exceptionally sweet disposition. She would lean into your legs so hard that she could knock an unsuspecting person off balance. She loved to swim in the Narrow River, run through snowdrifts in Colt State Park, and shred paper from my wastebasket. Her favorite foods were peanut butter and scrambled eggs. She was a scrapper, picking fights with almost every female dog she encountered and when she got a way from me I always feared for the safety of the neighborhood lap dogs. She crossed her ankles like a lady and, when she got her hands on them, would chew the smallest of candies with great care. Unfortunately, as she got on in years, she also snored like a chainsaw and was as gaseous as the Sun. Still, every

night as I feel asleep she would climb up and wedge her 90-pound body between the top of my head and the wall.
She slowed down dramatically in the Spring of 2009 and developed a limp around Halloween. A few weeks later, she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. The doctor said it was aggressive and had probably already spread to her lungs.
On the day of her last appointment, Kelley picked us up and we drove to the East Bay with Maya draped across our laps. We stopped through a drive thru to pick up a kid’s meal - the dogs’ customary road trip treat and something she had not had in recent memory. She wagged her tail as I handed her the French fries one by one and we laughed at her howling when I didn’t give her the burger fast enough. I zipped the prize, a small spaceman, into my jacket pocket. Less than an hour later she was gone.
A week after we let Maya go, 27 friends and 4 dogs gathered around a fire pit in our backyard for an Irish Wake. People talked and laughed and a few even sang. Throughout the night several friends shared stories of their dogs past and present. It was a great comfort to me. I tried to bring my other dog, Win, downstairs to join the festivities but he wanted to stay on the couch. He had barely eaten over the last several days and on our walk earlier that evening he briefly mistook another brindle lab mix for Maya. He really misses her.
