COURSE DESCRIPTIONThe purpose of the AP Human Geography course is to introduce students to the systematic study of patterns and processes that have shaped human understanding, use, and alteration of Earth’s surface. Students learn to employ spatial concepts and landscape analysis to examine human socioeconomic organization and its environmental consequences. They also learn about the methods and tools geographers use in their research and applications. Areas of study include population, migration, culture, languages, religion, ethnicity, politics, agriculture, industrialization, development, and cities and urban land use.

Additional Comments:

Students are expected to read the text and participate in class discussions. There is additional reading including case studies and other supplemental material. The pace of the class is rigorous in order to cover the large amount of content. Students who have a strong background in social science are best suited for the class. Students will develop critical thinking skills to help them on the AP Human Geography Exam.

The curriculum for this class reflects the content of an introductory university course in American Government and Politics. AP English Language and Composition

COURSE DESCRIPTIONAP English Language is a class that marries the junior-level American literature curriculum to the college-level non-fiction composition curriculum. Students will read approximately 8 major works of American literature in a multiplicity of genres and will also read a wide-variety of non-fiction work, spanning from the beginning of America to today. The class emphasizes close reading, critical thinking, analytical writing, the structure of argument, and rhetorical analysis. Students will write dozens of in-class essays as well as multi-draft essays in order to improve writing. The class is designed to prepare students for the rigor and responsibilities of being a college student and will provide support for those students who are doing all of the work to the best of their abilities. Students are expected to take the AP English Language and Composition exam given in May.


Frequent before and after school tutoring (optional and recommended) 1-2 Saturdays for practice AP exams that are scored Spring Break (one of the two AP practice exams is offered during this time). Two different test

COURSE DESCRIPTIONThis course in a non-calculus based introduction to statistics exposing students to four broad conceptual themes: exploring data, observing patterns and departures from patterns; planning a study, deciding what to measure and how to measure it; anticipating patterns in advance, introducing probability and simulation; and statistical inference, confirming models for explanations of patterns. This course is designed for all college bound students, but it is specifically applicable for those students who will major in the social sciences or humanities. AP Biology

COURSE DESCRIPTIONAP Biology is the equivalent of a college introductory biology course taken by biology majors. We use a college-level textbook and materials. The expectation is that students will spend (and schedule time for spending) 1-2 hours of work outside of the class every weekday and two to four hours per weekend studying material we have learned or preparing for upcoming material in lecture or lab. This course is aligned with and conforms to the standards instituted by the College Board for all AP courses and covers all topics in the AP Biology Course Description.

Additional Comments: AP Biology is a lab based class that relies on students doing their homework when assigned to be

prepared to spend the majority of the class periods running labs. Labs require in-depth analysis which often includes a formal report and may require additional time

outside of class to finish or redo experiments. AP Biology has mandatory labs that are tested on the AP Biology exam, as such this is a lab heavy

class that will expand basic lab skills and analytical skills. This course is strongly recommended for students interested in a career in medicine, health care, or any of the biological sciences.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONThe AP Studio Art program is designed for students who are seriously interested in Visual Art. Success in AP Studio Art is not measured with a written test. Students submit portfolios of their work for evaluation instead. The portfolios are due at the beginning of May. The AP Studio Art Program at Godinez focuses on the Drawing emphasis (2-D Design and 3-D Design are other options) which can include painting and collage. This class corresponds to common college foundation courses in Art. Three major concerns that are addressed in this course are the student’s ability to recognize quality in her or his work, the student’s concentration on a sustained investigation of a particular visual interest or problem, and the exploration of a range of approaches to the formal, technical, and expressive means of the artist. The student will submit 12 pieces for the Range of Approaches (Breadth) part of their portfolio, 12 pieces for the Sustained Investigation (Concentration) portion, and 5 works (Selected Works) representing the highest Quality (selected works from either or both other categories) they have achieved during the year.
