On the Cover:From the archives comes this delightful image from an original glass plate negative. We have no information on the negatives in the collection but several of the images are clearly Harbor Springs and very likely taken around the turn of the century. It’s a family affairWe all grow up with the weight of history on us. Our ancestors dwell in the attics of our brains as they do in the spiraling chains of knowledge hidden in every cell of our bodies. -Shirley Abbott
Above: The Kloss family, Kate and Andy and their sons Weston and Wyatt, visited the museum last winter and checked out their family’s Civil War drum donated by Kate’s dad, Jim Juilleret. The drum was carried by Joseph Juilleret (the boys’ great-great-great grandfather) when he enlisted at age 15. Below: My sisters Liz Racignol (left) and Anne Dolecki brought all the cousins (Jack Racignol, Emma and Lila Dolecki, Nora Racignol) to visit Aunt Mary at the museum.

“Turning Point” exhibit opens Saturday, June 15
The Turning Point exhibit will feature Jean Baptiste Assiginack, an Odawa chief born in L’Arbre Croche in 1768. The uncle of Andrew J. Blackbird, Assiginac played an important role in the War of 1812 as he gathered other Odawa warriors to fight with him alongside the British. This original oil painting was created by Good Hart artist Jane Cardinal specifically for our exhibit.
