    Historical Foundation of Emmanuel Development Association (EDA)

    EDA came to be formed and how this process has influenced its values andobjectives.

    =================================================================Emmanuel Development Association (EDA) is an indigenous development

    NGO, established in 1996 by the Founder and Executive Director, TessemaBekele, envisioning to bring positive change by educating and protectingchildren through empowering their families and communities. This vision wasinstilled during his childhood by his single mother to focus on his education andbe a person to give care and support to orphan and vulnerable children andfamilies. The founder and the executive director of EDA raised by a single mother

    aspires to help children and families below poverty line, resigned from his joband accepted his severance pay Ethiopian Birr 10,000.00 and used it as a seedmoney to establish EDA.

    The overall mission of EDA is to improve the lives of vulnerable children,youth and women through integrated, community based, and sustainabledevelopment programs making education it priority and foundation for change.EDA believes that it is only through education that change and development willcome. With this vision, EDAs activities were conducted in consultation andparticipation with all beneficiaries and partners transparently and withaccountability to all its partners. This has created confidence and respect from all

    beneficiaries, government and donor community adding values to its mission.

    The founders and the Executive directors commitment to his childhooddreams as half orphan has influenced the values of the organization byconvincing professionals to be members of EDAs General Assembly and BoardMembers.

    EDAs program objectives focus on five interlinked areas; and achievingone objective reinforces the achievement of other objectives. Logically the fiveobjectives contribute towards the achievement of program goal i.e. improving thewell-being of children as its central goal.

    All the objectives contribute to the wellbeing of children and the community.

    Objective 1. Increase Chid Protection Program and access to basic services for 115,050

    disadvantaged children and community groups at the end of 2014.

    Objective 2. Improve household food security for 5,250 households at the end of 2014.

    Objective 3. Increase income opportunities for 4,200 youth and community groups at the

    end of 2014.

    Objective 4. Increase the services of community based sustainable, health,

    sanitation and environmental protection interventions in various

    levels.Objective 5. Increase organizational capability of 40 community structures and EDA

    EDAs formation process and its objectives has influenced its values to bebeneficiary centred, promote entrepreneurship spirit, give respect for all people,promote gender equality, advocate for safe working and living environment,develop organizational competence and accomplish its tasks as a team. And itsorganizational activities and process should be accomplish and reportedtransparently and be accounted for it.

    The above mentioned major objectives will be amended or changed as per the dynamics or

    context of the country as a Theory of Change for EDA.
