Although he went missing from the music scene, he was arduously working - on getting his band into shape. The first band, Benjy formed years ago, was called Aquarius, and he decided to revive that name, because three of the present mem- bers (Benjy included) are from the original line-up – drum- mer Shiran, and lead guitarist, Danushka. The rest of the guys are Janith, sax, and Jayan, keyboards. And they all sing. But, the plus factor is the glamour side of the band and that is where they are bound to score! Up front will be two dynamic female vocalists from the Philippines – Melody and Jojo. What’s more, Benjy will be presenting Aquarius, to the public, in a novel way. He says everything about Aquarius will be different to most other bands we see perform in Colombo. “We will project our- selves, on stage, in a dynamic way. There will be lots of action, and the music will be pleas- ing to the majority,” he said. However, Sri Lankans, will have to wait a few months more before experiencing the sounds of Benjy and Aquarius. Their first public per- formance will be in Qatar, at the Radisson Blu Hotel’s Qube night- club. They have been signed on to do this scene for three months, com- mencing mid July, 2015. When they return to Colombo, there is a pos- sibility of the band swinging into action at a known nightspot in the city. Benjy says he is extreme- ly happy with the new set up. “The prac- tice sessions are going smoothly and we are looking forward to creating a mighty big impact with our music, and as entertainers.” Beny also did mention that he had a great time with Mirage and that he is ever so thankful to both Donald and Melantha for taking the group to the very top. S heppard might be yet to gain significant attention in the US and UK, but they’re becoming serious super- stars in their home nation of Australia. The Brisbane six-piece shot to number one with their multi-Platinum sin- gle ‘Geronimo’ last year, and even managed to knock down Pharrell Williams’ record-breaking hit ‘Happy’. Needless to say, the band were, indeed, very happy when they discov- ered that they had beaten the pop giant to the top of the chart in Australia, and even more so when their independent debut album, ‘Bombs Away,’ reached number two. They remain, however, contrite that Pharrell’s opportunity to break yet another record was snatched from him. Says George Sheppard: “He was about to break a record for the longest running number one single in Australia ever. ‘He had some- thing like 13 weeks, and if he hit 14 he would have beaten Eminem’s ‘Lose Yourself.’ We kind of cut that short for him.” Frontwoman, Amy Sheppard, admitted that ‘it felt great’ to hit such a milestone with their first single. “We felt a bit like, ‘Oh, sorry Pharrell, not so happy anymore, huh?’ Seriously, ‘Happy’ was definitely on its last few weeks at the top any- way,” she says. ‘Happy’ still managed to become the best-sell- ing song of 2014 in the US and UK, however, and actually became the UK’s best-selling single of this century so far. While it was denied the chance to become Australia’s longest run- ning number one, it still became the best-selling single of all time in neighbouring country New Zealand. Sheppard are currently on with their second album and have a new single, entitled ‘Let Me Down Easy’. R anil Wasantha Ranasinghe gained recognition when he was placed first in the Western Provincial Round of the Rajitha Rasmi TV programme. He later participated in the Sirasa Super Star competition and made it to the third round. Ranil has now decided to create his own music, and with the help of Upali Bandara Weerasekera (lyrics) and S.S. Krishnan, he has come up with the song “Mage Susum” (My Breath). All around the world, pretty girls

Wipe the floor with all the boys

Pour the drinks, bring the noise

(It’s Iggy-Iggs!)

We’re just so pretty!

All around the world, pretty girls

Jump the line, to the front

Do what we like, get what we

want

(Where you at, Brit?)

We’re just so pretty!

Britney Spears:

Hey, don’t you know that it’s

always the same

From Australia ‘round to LA

You can betcha’, wherever the

girls go, boys follow

We be keeping them up on their

toes

They can laugh, but they don’t

get the jokes

Just you watch, they’re so pre-

dictable

(Some things don’t change...)

Pre-Chorus:

(The girls roll up)

Windows roll down

(Eyes on us)

Jaws on the ground

(Watch them go)

It’s just so funny

(Like bees to the honey)

Chorus:

All around the world, pretty girls

Wipe the floor with all the boys

Pour the drinks, bring the noise

We’re just so pretty

All around the world, pretty girls

Jump the line, to the front

Do what we like, get what we

want

We’re just so pretty

Britney Spears:

Tell me, is it true that these men

are from Mars

Is that why they be acting bizarre

Every time I walk out of my

house it’s like, “Hey, baby!”

They don’t see me rolling my

eyes

They buzzing around me like flies

They got one thing on their

minds

(Some things don’t change...)

(Repeat Pre-Chorus and Chorus)

Iggy Azalea:

If you ask me, I’m killing them

softly

I would spend time with you but

that’d cost me

They pray that Iggy-Iggy give ‘em

one more chance

But busy Iggy wouldn’t even give

‘em one more glance

See, enter in line between the

beauty and a beast

Slim waist, thick cake, the whole

world want a piece

Bad girl, good (ooh) would make

you lose your mind

All of the boys begging Britney,

hit ‘em one more time

Iggs

(Repeat Chorus)

Yes, a new

The Island’s
