Our President’s message last night was, understandably, devoid of specifics regarding many issues, including outdoor exercise, sporting events and sports clubs etc. I am sure information will start coming through between now and the 1st of May, but it seems unlikely that such news will be of the very good kind! I hope I am not being too pessimistic, but I think we can assume that sporting events of the running kind will be prohibited for a long time to come, while being in the Ethekwini Municipality may mean that we are kept “behind” much of the rest of the country when it comes to being released from total lockdown. But maybe, just MAYBE, we will be able to start running outside of our properties very soon. Even if it is on our own or in very small groups……. Really hoping for this! To those running all the crazy distances in your gardens and raising money for charities…… well done and thank you! Some of our members are truly addicted to running, no matter what the circumstances. From a HVAC perspective, we are thankfully quite well placed financially, though our salary overheads, water and electricity, security and so on will slowly drain our financial reserves. But let me make it clear......we are in a FAR better position than probably any other club around. We have also met all our financial obligations in terms of our Marathon/Half Marathon (including the payment of race levies and so on to KZNA). In addition, all membership amounts due to Hillcrest Sports Club have been paid. As I stated last month, Paul will be paid throughout this period and he will be able stay at the club accommodation as well.

Will Comrades be cancelled? I am sure this is on everyone’s lips. My opinion is that the 2020 race is as dead as a dodo. With infections apparently headed for its peak in September, I think there is more chance of me beating Alex in a marathon. I honestly think we need to accept we will be running NO races until much later this year (MAYBE November onwards). But don’t trust me, I am certainly not “in the know”. Interesting and very stressful times Stay safe, try to remain fit-ish, stay away from the bathroom scale and keep sane (the latter certainly not being my area of expertise) Yours in isolation Marc

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL RACES AND EVENTS HAVE BEEN CANCELLED OR POSTPONED DUE TO THE CORONA VIRUS

TRAIL RUNNING

Dear Winter Series Participants,

We have decided to postpone all KZNTR events prior to 21 June 2020 until further notice.

Although a tough decision, we do believe this is in the best interest of the trail community’s health and safety.

All paid participants can request a credit voucher for use at an upcoming KZNTR event. We will look to host the events in the second half of the year, where possible.

Please know that your funds are not lost, all entry fees will be credited for future events.

It is a tough call for our team, but we know that as a trail community, many will understand the need for such a decision.

If you have any queries or for credit vouchers, contact us at [email protected] and we will be there to help you.

Yours in trail,

The KZNTR Team

FROM THE SECRETARY A very different scenario now exists for all types of running and with all the info available on the Social Media I am endeavouring to put together some sort of Newsletter that is informative, entertaining and helpful. Realistically I can’t see races and Club Events returning to normal for the rest of the year and so we are forced to make the best of it and Runners and Walkers and all Sportsmen are being so incredibly innovative that I can honestly say there is a way for everyone to keep fit and healthy. Hi myrunners

What an overwhelming success our first myrun National Virtual Event was!

Great news! We are hosting one again this Sunday!

Join in the fun with fellow myrunners, 26 April 2020 for a virtual national myrun, kicking off promptly at

08h00.

We will be starting with a warmup on @myrunSA Facebook live feed at 07h45, so don’t miss out!

Your Race Director for the event, our amazing Carol Britz #myrunKnorhoekEstate, will be counting down

the start on @myrunSA Facebook live feed.

We will be giving away a Fitbit device to one lucky participant and we have 10 stunning Placecol Skin Care

hampers to give away.

So, get out your running shoes and either complete a 2.5km or 5km distance.

Then post a picture of yourself on Facebook or Instagram wearing your Discovery Vitality myrun timing

band or your fitness device, using the caption #Virtualmyrun #Fitbit

There will be no official results for this event, but if you are a Vitality member you can earn up to 300

Vitality fitness points using your Vitality linked heart rate device or smartphone.

Winners will be chosen on a lucky draw basis and announced on Tuesday, 28th

April 2020.

Stay fit, stay healthy, stay home and stay safe!
