Food amp Wine Festival - 15 amp 16 SeptemberOne of the biggest food and wine events in NSW is on again in the Southern Highlands in September

After the worst wet weather in 60 years forced the cancellation of the much-anticipated inaugural Festival in March of this year the disappointment of organisers exhibitors stall holders and those planning to attend resonated near and far

For the Southern Highlands region renowned for its award winning food and wine restaurants hospitality and talent this original premier event created much excitement and a buzz throughout the Food and Wine Industry so the timing of the rescheduling of the event was always going to be of the

utmost importance ndash March 2013 just seemed too far away

In light of this major sponsor Dan Murphyrsquos has agreed to fast track the re-staging of the event through additional sponsorship enabling the event to be launched as originally planned in 2012

Robert Kay President of the Southern Highlands Food amp Wine Association said ldquoThis initiative of the Association is a cornerstone of our plans to increase awareness of the Southern Highlands as a producer of fine wines and artisan food as well as home to many excellent restaurants so we are very grateful to Dan Murphyrsquos and the other sponsors like WIN Television Berrima Bus Lines Radio 2ST Southern Highland News and Kennards for agreeing to double-up on their sponsorshiprdquo

ldquoThe decision of sponsors to renew their support acknowledges the calibre of the event as well as the vast amount of interest generated for the March event as a showcase for the Southern Highlands Region and itrsquos exceptional Food and Wine Industryrsquo

In an exciting development the Inland Tourism Barbecue Challenge to be televised by the Nine and WIN Television networks will also be a feature of the Festival in 2012

The two day festival will showcase the regionrsquos exceptional food and wine as well as arts and crafts displays retail outlets live entertainment and plenty of activities for children

Complimented by a delicious undercover food court and a posse of talented award winning chefs on hand to demonstrate their culinary expertise and knowledge of local produce there will be plenty to peruse learn taste and savour

Festivities will be set to the delightful Jazz croons of popular band Ellarsquos Holiday live entertainment favoured by industry legend and local Geoff Harvey and most recently much loved comic Barry Humphries

The tantalizing multi-awarded wines of the region will be available for tastings throughout the Festival with many a case finding a spot in the car boot for savouring post festival

80th Anniversary of the Mountain Railway LineSaturday 13 amp Sunday 14 October

On Saturday 13 October Robertson Station will host the 80th anniversary of the opening of the Unanderra to Moss Vale line in 1932

In 1932 a group of school children from Robertson Primary School marched to the Station and caught the first train to Unanderra Violet Lymbery was one of those children and will once again greet a steam train this time hauled by iconic steam locomotives 3642 and 3265

Once again school children will march to the Station and one of the children and Violet will jointly cut an Anniversary Cake thereby spanning 80 years Invited dignatories include Gladys Berijiklian (Minister for Transport) Gareth Ward (Member for Kiama) and the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Wingecarribee

The train will also be greeted by a brass band and piper 3 Light Horsemen in full regalia and the school choir will also sing The Station grounds will be ablaze with stunning waratah flowering bushes and waratah flowers and plants will be on sale

Other attractions include old-time working farm machinery miniature steam-hauled train rides Jumping castle displays of photographs of NSW railways history museum model trains and railway artefacts various stalls including second-hand books food drink icecream and excellent coffee

Free admission to the public with plenty of parking with proceeds funding the maintenance of the station and grounds

Berrima Old Machinery Club will have a lsquoWaratah Tractor Trekrsquo with stationary engine display on the

Railway Common as well there will be a Botanical Art Exhibition at lsquoLight Horse Galleryrsquo Art and crafts including lsquoVillage Woodworksrsquo and Antique shops and Cafeacutes

On Sunday 14 October the Station will continue with the waratah open garden flowers plant sales photographic and historic displays

In the Robertson area there will be the lsquoAussie Ladies Tractor Runrsquo and stationary display Robertson Markets with a continuation of Botanical Art at lsquoLight Horse Gallery and lsquoVillage Woodworksrsquo
