Family Picnic The Highland Lodge Family Picnic will be held at the Sportsmen’s Club on Sunday, August 11. This is open to members, guests and prospective members, and of course, children. The Moose will provide beverages, fried chicken, bratwurst and hot dogs and all attendees are asked to bring a covered dish or dessert. There will be pinatas with candy and toys for the children in addition to fishing, bean bag toss, playground, etc. Adults will have bocce ball, bean bags, fishing, fun and fellowship. If you have not signed the sign up sheets at any of the meetings, please call Lenny Gall at 654-4793 or Dave Wirz at 654-3035 to let them know how many adults and children so we have enough food, etc. This is a fun time. The Highland Moose Lady of the Year will be presented. There will be a 50/50 drawing and the summer raffle for the Weber Grill and food packages. (Please sell those tickets!)

Correspondence from Moose International I am pleased to inform you that the Premiere Lodge Award appeal from Lodge 2479 has been found favorable. Congratulations! This also qualifies the Governor to receive the Governor’s Award of Excellence.

From the Governor Thanks to all that attended our 16th anniversary and appreciation banquet and congratulations to all that received their certificates. Without your help, we would not have the Highland Moose Lodge. We certainly appreciated the effort by the Highland Riders for our 2nd cruise this year on June 30 as it rained on each “leg” of the cruise between Lodges. Thanks to Mike Lengermann and the Sharpshooters for switching our 2nd and 4th meetings to accommodate the Madison County Fair while Gary B. and Fred B. were out of town. The Highland Lodge clarified the funeral policy with a motion that was passed by the membership at the July 8, 2013 meeting. Since we are growing (over 350 members) we will send in our $25.00 memorial to Moose charities for each Moose member’s immediate family member (parents, siblings and children). If the member or their family would like the Highland Moose to “walk through” the visitation as a group, please contact the Governor (Ken Kapp at 618-781-2004). Please plan on attending the following upcoming events: • 7/22/13 - Board and General Meeting at Randy’s BBQ • 8/3/13 - Triathlon - traffic and crowd control at Lindendale Park • 8/11/13 - Annual Family Picnic at Sportsmen’s Club • 8/13/13 - Board and General Meeting at Corner Keg Pub Thanks to the Grantfork Group for putting the Tommy Moose float in the Marine Homecoming. Ken Kapp, Governor

Moose-Ings Congratulations to Adam and Kellie Hanebrink on the arrival of Graysen Michael Hanebrink on June 28, 2013, entering the world at 7 lbs. 4 oz. and 20-1/2” long. Nice Try - Queen of Hearts - Russ Wellen’s name was drawn on June 24, 2013 and the 8 of Diamonds was selected

for him; Larry Munie was present at the July 8, 2013 meeting and drew the Ace of Hearts. Next drawing on July 22, 2013 at Randy’s BBQ (Queen over $3600). Congratulations to Jared Lengermann who won the birthday drawing at the Anniversary Banquet. Quote from D. Steiner at Moose Breakfast Club “If you try to eat and drink everything good for you - you will live 1 or 2 days longer in the nursing home!” Thanks to Dave Knebel who won the 50/50 at the July 8, 2013 meeting and donated it to the Food Pantry.

to the children. Children love to receive mail on their birthdays, on holidays or just a little note letting them know you are thinking about them. Gift cards are also a great idea. We have Wal-mart, Target and Kohl’s just to mention a few.

All letters, cards and gifts should be addressed to your Sunshine child at the address below. Please always put what Lodge you are sending it from. This will ensure that gifts are handled properly and will be acknowledged quickly.

Broadway Bar & Grill Highland Riders

Highland Riders met at Broadway Bar and Grill on June 30 for the 2nd cruise ride and proceeded to travel to Moose Lodges in Vandalia, Hillsboro and Litchfield. The rain was aggravating but everyone persevered and wound up back in Highland at Floyd’s Bar.

Moses Moose was strapped in for safety on the cruise and he and Dave Knebel sold several summer raffle tickets at the visited Moose Lodges.

Highland Riders Chairman “Evil” Lenny Gall was captured in a lighter moment at the Harley Davidson Museum while attending the Moose International Convention in Milwaukee, WI.

Mooseheart’s CentennialCelebration July 27Will Mark 100 Years

of Giving Hope to Kids in Need Ever since its dedication on July 27, 1913, Mooseheart Child City & School has given a home, education and stability to more than 12,000 children from across the continent and the world. Exactly 100 years later, Saturday, July 27, 2013, will be an all-day celebration of Mooseheart’s mission and successes, as thousands of Moose members, Mooseheart alumni and members of the community will mark the history and the future of the community, with a 100-minute fun run, hours of free live entertainment, a carnival, food-and-beverage tents, fireworks at dusk - and by breaking ground on a $10 million renovation project of Mooseheart School. From 9 a.m. until after dark, it’s the Mooseheart Centennial Celebration! “The bottom line is Mooseheart would not exist if it wasn’t for the ongoing support and generosity of the men and women of the Moose,” said Mooseheart Executive Director Gary Urwiler. “We are looking forward to celebrating the grand occasion with our Moose members and Mooseheart students and kicking off the next 100 years of service to children in need.” A rededication ceremony for Mooseheart, honoring Mooseheart found James J. Davis and first Superintendent Rodney Brandon, and featuring remarks from former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert, will highlight festivities at 11 a.m. Preceding, at 9 a.m., will be the 100-minute Centennial Challenge Walk/Run; and following throughout the afternoon will be a full carnival and pony rides, musical entertainment including Rick K and the Allnighters and the Beatles tribute band “American English”, food/beer/soft drink tents, a petting zoo, a groundbreaking ceremony for the Mooseheart School renovation, and at dusk, a spectacular fireworks display. For a full, up-to-date schedule, visit www.Mooseheart.org. For members who are unable to attend the Mooseheart Centennial festivities, please consider hosting a fundraiser or making a donation to the $10 million renovation project of the school. To donate to Mooseheart’s School Renovation Fund, visit www.moosecharities.org.

Highland Moose Lodge Moose of the Year Award presented to Wayne Marti for 2012-2013 by Co-chairman Lenny Gall and the 2011-2012 Moose of the Year and current Governor Kenny Kapp.

“I would like to apologize for my speechlessness at the annual dinner. I need to express my gratitude for the “Moose of the Year” Award. I was shocked the club nominated me, when there are so many other deserving people. Being chosen as “Moose of the Year” is a real honor, one that I would like to personally thank you all for. However, as you all know, the annual shooting match would not be possible without the efforts of everyone involved, especially Wayne Sackett. My appreciation goes out to all those who have helped coordinate and execute the shooting matches and made them so successful year after year. I am proud to be a member of the Highland Moose Lodge because of the friendships made and community contributions and the great times we share together. Again thank you for this honor and opportunity to give back.” – Wayne Marti
