    I am delighted to welcome you as an athlete within our High Performance Academy (HPA). Sport is a major part of life at Solent University, and we are very proud of the development of the HPA programme in recent years, as well as the contribution its made to our profile and reputation within the national sporting landscape. I am sure that you will find that the expert support and guidance that you receive from our high-calibre staff will enable you to pursue your sporting aspirations at the same time as achieving your academic qualifications. Success in both these fields is the end goal, and our athlete centred approach will help you to achieve these whilst with us.

    As performance athletes with aspirations, you will of course need to be committed, focussed and dedicated; qualities that you have clearly demonstrated in your career so far and behaviours that we have recognised through our application process, so well done for being accepted onto our programme.

    I am delighted to welcome you to Southampton Solent University and to the High Performance Academy (HPA) 2017/18. I hope you enjoy finding out more about the HPA, and indeed about the University.

    At Southampton Solent we pride ourselves on putting our students at the heart of everything we do; providing a real-world, applied learning environment and making learning fun as well as relevant. We have first-class facilities, cutting-edge technology and skilled staff.

    Our University provides an extensive range of sporting opportunities, including excellent academic provision, a competitive sports programme, and widespread volunteering and community support. The HPA is an important part of our overall sports offering, and we are very proud of its development over recent years. Our aim is to continue to build and further our successes, and to continue as one of the countrys leading Universities for sport.

    James Grant High Performance Manager

    Email: James.Grant@solent.ac.uk Mobile: 07881 014 593James manages the HPA and supports a number of athletes with their strength and conditioning. His two favourite sports are football and athletics. Qualifications: BA (Hons) Sports Studies, MSc Sports Performance, Accredited UKSCA Coach, UKAD Advisor.Currently undertaking a PhD in Skill acquisition, and coaching.

    Kate Richardson Head Sports Physiotherapist

    Email: Kate.Richardson@solent.ac.uk Kate is a Chartered Physiotherapist who graduated from Cardiff University. She has previous experience working with Cardiff City Football Club Academy, AFC Bournemouth Academy and Wales Senior Men and Womens Hockey. She is currently working with the HPA athletes at Southampton Solent University providing assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries along with injury reduction strategies. Her favourite sports are netball and athletics. Qualifications: BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, MCSP, HCPC.

    Dan Cruse Physical Preparation Coach

    Email: Dan.Cruse@solent.ac.uk Gym Phone: 023 8201 3786Dan has completed both an undergraduate and postgraduate degree at Southampton Solent University, and provides strength and conditioning support to HPA athletes. His favourite sports are football, rugby and boxing. Qualifications: BA (Hons) Fitness and Personal Training, PG Cert Applied Sports Nutrition, MSc Athletic Development and Peak Performance, CSCS Strength and Conditioning Coach, UKAD Advisor.

    Kelly Jones Athlete Support Officer

    Email: Kelly.Jones@solent.ac.uk Phone: 023 8201 6280Kelly brings a wealth of knowledge in health, fitness and lifestyle management. She provides lifestyle support and mentors all HPA athletes. Her favourite sports are rugby and athletics.Qualifications: BA (Hons) Health and Fitness management, Talented Athlete Lifestyle Support Accredited, UKAD Educator, Mental Health First Aider. Currently studying for a MSc in Applied Sport Psychology.

    Alexander Jeans Assistant Physical Preparation Coach

    Alex will be taking up our internship position as a recent graduate from Solent University where he achieved a 1st class honours in Sports Science. He will support the HPA team in delivering S & C training to individuals and focus clubs. This opportunity offers an invaluable experience for him in the early stages of his career and hopefully will set him up well for future employment.

    John will be taking up our internship position as a recent graduate from Solent University where he achieved a 1st class honours in Sports Science.
