Hey You Guys
Kulia Youth Activities has a great 10 weeks of summer planned for this year’s “Camp Kulia”. With camp beginning on May 30th, the staff has been diligently working at finding new experiences to engage SAC children. They are eager to share their ideas and experiences. Along with individually themed weeks, Kulia will be participating in several summer BGCA clubs; such as Summer Brain Gain, a module based learning system with tools to help children get active, get engaged and keep those brains exercising during the summer. Did you know that during the summer the average student will lose anywhere from 1 to 3 months’ worth of instruction? Not at camp Kulia! During these 10 weeks the program will provide stimulating activities for your child’s cognitive, physical, social and emotional development, all
while they learn about the world around them. Week 1 (5/30-6/2): Welcome to Camp Kulia Week 2 (6/5-6/9): Craft & Create Week 3 (6/12-6/16): Travel around the world (cultural week) Week 4 (6/19-6/23): Sports & Fitness Week 5 6/26-6/30): Reduce/Reuse/Recycle Week 6 (7/3-7/7): All American Week 7 (7/10-7/14): Bodies of Water & Weather (hurricane readiness) Week 8 (7/17-7/21): Plants & Gardens (our eco-system)
Week 9 (7/24-7/28): Survival Week Week 10 (7/31-8/4): Prehistoric Days
Friendly reminder to send a healthy sack lunch (no nuts or shellfish, please), toe covered shoes, towel, change of clothes and sun protection (hat and sunscreen) to camp every day. Field Trip destinations to be announced, please ensure permission slips are signed prior to excursions.

Are you ready for a hurricane? Here in the Hawaiian Islands, with the arrival of the summer months, also comes hurricane season (June – November). Every year the Pacific Ocean is home to a number of hurricanes that visit our waters, but never make landfall. Are you prepared for the one that decides to stay? Our SAC participants will be learning about hurricane readiness this summer and participating in a Summer Hurricane Preparedness poster contest. Keep an eye out for hurricane awareness activities within the community. Don’t be caught off guard, be ready! Thank you to those families that came out to join us for Nachos and a slideshow night
during our Quarterly Parent Advisory Board meeting on March 31. For those that were
unable to attend, some key topics discussed were sign-in and out procedures, MDI
Inspection updates, enrollment/withdrawal procedures, and summer camp
information. We would like to express our gratitude for continuous parent feedback; it
helps Kulia improve the services that we provide to you and your children. Just a
friendly reminder, don’t forget to sign your child in-and-out at the reception desk, and
in the classroom. Thank you for your continued cooperation and support in helping us
maintain protocol compliance. PAB meeting notes are posted on the PAB board in the
center lobby for your reference.

Here at Kulia, we are trying to promote and implement the 3 RRR’s,
Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. With PCS season around the corner, comes the constant
tug-o-war of which items should be kept and which should be disposed. Well wonder
no further! Don’t stress over what stays behind and what goes! Here at Kulia, we will
accept gently used items such adult clothes which can be used in our dramatic play
area, as well as repurposed and incorporated into SAC projects. We will help you
recycle other items such as outdoor gear and supplies, water play, beach gear, and
water hoses. The list goes on and on… if you would like to share any of your gently
used, re-purposable items please inquire with management. Thank you for helping us
keep our Earth green for future generations.

On April 6, 2017, Kulia School Age Care Program staff
attended a training workshop from the Western Region
BGCA Director. During the training workshop, Kulia staff
learned about program opportunities available via the
BGCA.net website, BGCA summer programs and
applicable grants to promote School Age Care

start a new program they will begin at Camp Kulia-
