Last year we opened a heritage department with the intention of forming the greatest archive of LGBT life in Wales. Purpose of the job: The Heritage Manager is responsible to the co-ordination of a small project that will focus on documenting a HLF funded project that will research, present and publish the history of LGBT life in Wales over the last century. The successful applicant will co-ordinate activities and training to research individual’s stories and documenting heritage throughout Wales, whilst also identifying and developing further revenue opportunities for the project and other LGBT heritage-relate activities.

Key relationships – internal: Chief Executive Officer, Chair and Board of Trustees, Other staff and Volunteers, as necessary

Key relationships – external: Big Lottery Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund, Equality and Human Rights Commission, Lesbian and Gay Newsmedia Archive, Service Users, Other LGBT community Groups, Schools, Local Authorities, LEAs, other Consultants, Wales Council for LGBT People.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1 Research 1.1 To map and collate references of LGBT people in libraries, museums, archives and

miscellaneous collections throughout Wales 1.2 To develop a database and maintain systems for recording, archiving, and

retrieving information collated. 1.3 To co-ordinate an Oral History project to research experiences, stories, anecdotes,

and memories of LGBT people that were born, lived, or are connected to Wales.1.4 To prepare questionnaire, focus groups, interviews, and activities to enable the

research. 1.5 To establish links with other organisations and institutions around heritage and

LGBT history throughout Wales, the UK, and internationally.1.6 To develop and deliver a training package for schools in order to enable young

people to carry out heritage research projects and activities in partnership with the LGBT Excellence Centre.

2 Event Management2.1 To co-ordinate the delivery of a launch event for the project in February 2011.2.2 To prepare all promotional material for the event and its media campaign.2.3 To liaise with all relevant parties involved in the research and the launch event.

3 Planning and Development 3.1 To form a steering group of relevant stakeholders to engage for the lifetime of the

project and help shape the promotional campaign3.2 To co-ordinate 4 meetings of the steering group for the project and related research

activities3.3 To work with the Chief Executive for the preparation of a report pertinent to the

findings of the project3.4 To work with the Chief Executive to identify and submit further funding applications

for the project and its future development3.5 To advise the Chief Executive Officer on project issues encountered3.6 To compile a final project evaluation report.

4 Administration4.1 Attend regular meetings of paid and unpaid staff and team meetings as appropriate. 4.2 Encourage good teamwork and lines of communication between all members of

staff and volunteers.4.3 Maintain effective and efficient administrative systems for the project in accordance

with the Heritage Lottery Fund’s guidelines4.4 Maintain complaints procedures in accordance with Excellence Centre’s guidelines

6 Professional development 6.1 Attend appropriate internal and external meetings as agreed with the Chief

Executive Officer. 6.2 Prepare for and attend regular supervision sessions/team meetings as appropriate

7 Public Relations and Liaison7.1 Promote the work of the LGBT Excellence Centre and the project both locally and

nationally.7.2 Maintain contacts with local and regional media about the project.

that of colleagues.10.3 Uphold the aims and principles of the LGBT Excellence Centre, its services and its

equal opportunities policies. 10.4 Keep up to date with policies and procedures relevant to the project and undertake

relevant training.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

1 Skills and Experience (essential)

1.1 Ability to manage, plan, prioritise and deliver a range of services to agreed targets and deadlines

1.2 Ability and willingness to take on responsibility. 1.3 Effective written and verbal communication skills including negotiation skills. 1.4 Numeracy skills required to understand statistical targets and complete statistical
