August 15, 2014 Dear Parents and Community Members: We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides key information on the 2013-2014 educational progress for Heritage High School. The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws. The school’s report contains information about student assessment, accountability and teacher quality. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact Michael Newman (Principal) for assistance. The AER is available for you to review electronically by visiting the following web site www.stcs.org/annual-report or you may review a copy at the school’s main office. The state has identified some schools with the status of Reward, Focus or Priority. A Reward school is one that is outperforming other schools in achievement, growth, or is performing better than other schools with a similar student population. A Focus school is one that has a large achievement gap between the top and bottom 30% of its students. A Priority school is one whose achievement and growth is in the lowest 5% of all schools in the state. Our school has been given the label of Focus School for the 2013-14 school year. Schools may be given this label even if their achievement data is at or above the state average in tested areas. The challenges Heritage High School faces is to continue to provide the rich course offerings while addressing the academic needs of all of the students. We have implemented the MTSS and summer credit recovery programs to help students that need academic assistance. We are also going into our second year using North West Evaluation Association assessments for 9 th and 10 th grade students and the data these assessments provide will help us offer more differentiated instruction to students based on their needs. Our graduation rate is above 90% for the past two years and our increased focus on credit recovery and providing students with more support has allowed us to increase the number of students graduating on time with their cohort. State law requires that we also report the following additional information: Heritage High School 2013-2014 ANNUAL EDUCATION REPORT

Dear Parents and Community Members:

We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides key information on the 2013-2014 educational progress for Heritage High School. The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws. The school’s report contains information about student assessment, accountability and teacher quality. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact Michael Newman (Principal)

for assistance.

The AER is available for you to review electronically by visiting the following web site

www.stcs.org/annual-report or you may review a copy at the school’s main office.

We have implemented the MTSS and summer credit recovery programs to help

students that need academic assistance. We are also going into our second year using North West Evaluation Association assessments for 9th and 10th grade students and the data these assessments provide will help us offer more differentiated instruction to students based on their needs. Our graduation rate is above 90% for the past two years and our increased focus on credit recovery and providing students with more support has allowed us to increase the number of students graduating on time with their cohort.

State law requires that we also report the following additional information:

School attendance boundaries are set by the Board of Education. Out-of-district

students apply through Schools of Choice.

Status of the 3-5 year school improvement plan

Heritage High School hosted a 5 year external review from Advance-D in February of

2014. The feedback we received was constructive and identified many positive

things in our school such as our IB and AP programs, diverse curriculum, positive

environment, and a safe school. However, it also reinforced that we have some

disparity in our school with regards to curriculum and support for underachieving

students.

The school improvement team consists of staff, administration, a student group, and

parent/s. There are monthly meetings and the team is always looking for ways to

improve our instructional program.

Description of specialized school

Heritage High School is an International Baccalaureate High School. In addition

we offer Advanced Placement courses and an extensive electives program that

includes strings, band, choir, drama, art, industrial arts, business, world languages,

physical education, and special services. We are a full International Baccalaureate

World School with both the Diploma Program and the Middle Years Program.

Core Curriculum

A copy of the core curriculum may be obtained from the curriculum office at the

Saginaw Township Community Schools Administration Center. The core curriculum is

fully implemented. There are no variances from the state's model. Listed below are

achievement results for the 9th grade MEAP and 11th grade MME tests taken annually

by Heritage High School students.

Heritage High School had a total of 266 enrollments in Advanced Placement or

International Baccalaureate courses that would be eligible for college credit if the

appropriate score was obtained on the Advanced Placement or International

Baccalaureate Exam taken in May. Scores used in this report to determine potential

college credit for Advanced Placement were 3, 4, or 5. Scores for International

Baccalaureate Higher Level Year II courses were 5, 6, or 7. Please refer to the table
