CHRISTIAN FASCHING

We paddled into the heavy beach break just south of the Manhattan

beach pier. The water was warm and we hardly needed wetsuits.

Christian grew up in Switzerland making the long trips across Europe

to learn on the waves along the French coast. It was immediately clear

that Christian knew his way around the rolling swells. Christian is the

kind of guy that seems to be talented at anything he puts his mind

to. When he isn’t chasing his charming 2 year old son, Costa, around

the yard or exploring the surf breaks around LA, he is meticulously

crafting uniquely designed custom furniture pieces and wooden

surf boards. He and his wife live in Los Angeles, not far from the

ocean, where he keeps a wood shop out back. After drying off from

the morning surf, he gave me a tour. On the left is a surf rack with a

handful of boards, some complete and some “in progress.” Seeing the

inside of this wooden surfboard exposes the structural complexity of

this working sculpture. Achieving balance between weight, buoyancy

and strength is the goal. On the center work table is a stunning

credenza made of walnut and felt with a very tasteful mid-century

vibe. The back table hosted a stunning set of lathe chisels that he

used to sculpt a bowl as it turned. Christian is a perfect example of

someone that has worked to create something that is a true reflection

of himself and his passions. He takes genuine inspiration from his

life experiences and surroundings; working hard to create things that

are truly authentic, thoughtful and made without compromise.

TREE HOUSE BUILDING AND TREE CARE COMPANY

DJANGO KRONER

Hailing from the banks of the mighty Ohio River, Django fell in love

with Kentucky’s Red River Gorge by way of rock climbing, however, the

climbing didn’t end with rocks. He decided sleeping “off the deck” was

better than in a tent and with a little help from friends, he constructed

a simple platform style treehouse 45 ft off the ground, where he ended

up living for the next three years. Many years later he is still building

tree houses, albeit the houses he builds now are vastly more immense

and grand than his original, but they are still just as carefully selected

and planned. He attributes his love for trees to time spent in his

youth out in the forests of Ohio and Kentucky and his intimidatingly

hard work ethic, to an inner family competition with brothers and

sisters. Django takes his work very seriously, with a “no complaints”

attitude. He and his crew work relentlessly long days in hard-to-get-

to locations, hauling in timber and equipment to build multi-tiered

tree houses with stunning views and well thought out and designed

features. He’s known nationally for his builds and has even authored a

book on the subject of site selection and design. He is a hard working,

rugged fella but sees the world in a positive light that makes him a

great character to spend time with.

When Red Wing Shoe Company was founded, one of the original investors was

an important businessman, T.B. Sheldon. The local Red Wing theater is named

after Sheldon, and so is Red Wing’s most refined boot. Befitting its inspiration,

the Sheldon has a sleeker appearance that is well-suited for the dapper gentlemen,

perfectly acceptable at the office, but distinctly Red Wing. Make no mistake,

though it’s built for lighter duty work, the Sheldon’s premium Featherstone

The local residents of the Mesabi Iron Range in northern Minnesota

are proudly known as Iron Rangers due to their rugged toughness.

This style can truly be considered the classic American work boot.

In the early 1900s, when Red Wing Shoe Company first began to

service rural America, this style of boot became vastly popular across

the country. Versatile and reliable, it was used in farm fields and

blacksmith workshops during the day before being cleaned

and shined up for a night out on the town. It was the all-purpose boot

for many years in many industries. Today, the Blacksmith is built

using premium Red Wing leathers and a durable Vibram® 430

Mini-lug sole. The extra height of this six-inch style keeps out snow

in the winter and dirt in the summer, while the classic construction

keeps feet comfortable even after long hours of work.

Red Wing’s Classic Work boots were designed and built to withstand the

daily rigors of the work day on the farm and in the factory. The lightweight

crepe sole featured a minimal tread design to reduce the mud that would

cling to a farmer’s boots but still provide the underfoot comfort the work

day required. Red Wing branded the crepe sole as the Traction Tred sole.

These classic boots featured a moc toe design. The name came from the

word moccasin, the Algonquian Indian word for shoe. This combination

of the u-shaped moc toe leather upper and the white crepe sole would

become the iconic boot style for the Red Wing brand.

ROVERThe name, “Rover”, may conjure the image of a faithful hunting dog, but it was also the name given to machine operators in early

twentieth-century cotton mills. So given our legacy of making boots that are at home in the field as much as the factory, it’s fitting

that we’re calling our latest work boot the Rover. Made with Black Harness or Copper Rough & Tough leather from our tannery, the

6-inch boot has a round toe and Goodyear welt construction for durability and good looks. The Rover also sports our Cushion Crepe

shock-absorbing sole, in either Coffee or Malt, making the Rover comfortable for hours on your feet while providing traction on a

variety of surfaces. This sole was first introduced on our work boots in 1953 and was found on our venerable No. 766 Cush-N-Crepe All

Around Work Shoe up until the 1980s. The Rover is a worthy addition to this legacy of versatile Red Wing work boots.

In the 1950s, policemen still walked their beats and the postman walked his mail

route. The hours spent on their feet called for comfortable and sturdy footwear

and in 1954, Red Wing responded with style No. 101, a sturdy black oxford with a

moldable insole. The shoe could be polished to meet uniform requirements, but

it was tough enough for everything a policeman or mail carrier encountered on

his rounds. Today the Postman is offered in a variety of color options.

MERCHANTIn 1905, when Charles Beckman couldn’t find boots to wear in Red Wing’s muddy streets that

matched his merchant status, he decided to start his own shoe company. The Merchant style

is made without a toe-box, but instead features a plain toe and raw cut at the quarter edge.

The Merchant is built on the No. 8 last, and has a slim look and a low toe profile.

The Weekender is an off-the-clock shoe that can stand up to adventure while still keeping

things dialed down. The oxford and chukka styles were designed from the ground up to be

light and comfortable right out of the box, with or without socks. But light doesn’t mean the

Weekenders are lightweights. They’re made alongside our other boots at Plant 2 in Red Wing,

Minnesota, with durable leather sourced from our S.B. Foot Tanning Company and a stitch-

down construction that can be resoled for many years of faithful service. Weekenders let you

play as hard as you work. You might even be tempted to keep them on come Monday.

MERCHANDISE RETURN POLICY

DEFECTIVE MERCHANDISE: Red Wing Brands of America, Inc.(“Red Wing”) accepts returns of defective merchandise. There is no prior authorization required. A return merchandise memo must accompany defective merchandise returns. The returned merchandise must be shipped prepaid and via the most economical means. Transportation credit will be issued on defective merchandise and prompt credit will be issued on returned merchandise deemed defective after inspection by Red Wing.

SHIPPING ERRORS: Red Wing accepts returns on merchandise that is sent in error. The returned merchandise must be returned to Red Wing within 30 days of delivery. A return merchandise memo must accompany the returned merchandise along with a copy of the invoice or packing slip indicating the returned merchandise. Merchandise returned without a copy of the invoice or packing slip will be assessed a $10 per pair restocking fee. Merchandise not returned in the same condition as originally received will be assessed a $10 per pair reconditioning fee. The returned merchandise must be shipped prepaid and via the most economical means. Transportation credit will be issued on returned shipping errors and prompt credit will be issued.

SPECIAL ORDERS: Special order merchandise may be returned within 45 days of delivery. A return merchandise memo must

accompany the returned merchandise along with a copy of the invoice or packing slip indicating the returned special order merchandise. Merchandise returned without a copy of the invoice or packing slip will be assessed a $10 per pair restocking fee. Merchandise not returned in the same condition as originally received will be assessed a $10 per pair reconditioning fee. A $10 per pair re-stocking fee will be charged on all special orders returned after 45 days.

ALL OTHER RETURNS: No other merchandise returns will be accepted without prior authorization from your Red Wing brand sales representative.

LIMITED WARRANTY RELATING TO RED WING BRANDED FOOTWEARFootwear products bearing the “Red Wing” or “Red Wing Shoes” label are warranted against defects in workmanship and materials. If within 12 months of purchase, a defect occurs in a Red Wing branded footwear product as the result of normal use, Red Wing will repair the defect or exchange the product. Product failures caused by excessive or abusive wear conditions do not qualify for exchange or purchase credit. This warranty is available only to the original purchaser and is not transferable. No adjustment will be given

without the original receipt of purchase. You must return your footwear to the Red Wing Shoe dealer from which the footwear was purchased.

DISCLAIMER: The limited warranty relating to Red Wing branded footwear is in lieu of any other express warranty. No agent, employee or representative of Red Wing has any authority to bind Red Wing to any affirmation, representation or warranty concerning Red Wing branded footwear products, except as stated herein. Red Wing shall not be liable for any consequential, incidental or punitive damages. This limited product warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights that vary from state to state. Any implied warranties shall be effective for a period not exceeding 12 months from the date of purchase. Some states do not allow manufacturers to impose time limitations on certain implied warranties, so the above limitation may not apply to you.

DISTRIBUTION POLICYIt is the policy of Red Wing Brands of America, Inc. to sell its Red Wing Heritage products directly to selected retailers for resale only at or from the retailer’s retail and/or online outlets approved in writing by Red Wing Shoe Company, and only to the retailer’s end user customers. Red Wing Heritage retailers are not authorized to sell to or ship to any end users outside of the United States or Canada. This policy further prohibits resale or shipment of Red Wing Heritage products by a retailer to any other

business location inside or outside of the United States. Violation of this distribution policy may result in the immediate termination of a retailer’s right to sell Red Wing branded products.

CHANGE NOTICEWe have made every effort to make this catalog accurate. Due to improvement of product performance and availability of materials, there may be specification changes made during the year. Red Wing Brands of America, Inc. reserves the right to discontinue or drop products, sizes, widths or styles without prior notice.
