What Is CERN?
• CERN sits astride the Franco–Swiss border, near Geneva.
• CERN primarily consists of Particle Accelerators, which speed up the particles and then crash them together in order to find out what they are made of.

Particle Accelerators
• Particle Accelerators speed particles up to close to the speed of light.
• There are two different types, Linear and Circular.• These particles are sped up using electric fields, and
curved round using a magnetic field.• The new particle accelerator that they are building will be
the biggest and most powerful in the world.

• Once the particles have been created they have to be detected.
