Rabbit Lane Pathway Tooele County Health Department along with Tooele County and Tooele Valley Pathway had a ribbon cutting for the Rabbit Lane Path-

way. This pathway is located at the North end of Rabbit Lane, off Bates Canyon Road. It is a beautiful pathway for bikes or walking.

What a great ribbon cutting and getting to know you and your company!

We had the opportunity to hear from Dr. Stoecklein and Joe with Mountain West Ambulance & Emergency Dept. about how we as every day citizens can help out in saving lives especially with heart attacks. Last year our County had 40 incidents with 10% survival. We need to know how to perform CPR! 1- call 911 2- Push hard and fast in the center of the chest to the beat of a familiar song that has 100-120 beats per minute. (Staying Alive, Crazy in Love, Hips don’t Lie, Walk the

Line, etc.) Take 90 seconds to learn how to save a

live. Watch the 90-second video – heart.org/handsonlycpr instructional video and share it with the important people in your life.

Reece DeMille with Republic Services presented a $5,000.00 Scholarship to Jenn VanCott with USU Tooele.

Thank you Dickey’s BBQ for the won-derful food and USU for the use of your facility.

The 24th of July brings a few “National Days”

➢ National Cousin Day – reach out to your cousins or get together and let them know how important they are to you.

➢ National Drive-Thru Day – The drive-thru is the iconic measure of convenience. People have enjoyed this service since the 1930’s. There are more than 21,000 fast food restaurants in the U.S. The drive-thru format was pioneered in the U.S. for banking ser-vices. Now restaurants, coffee shops, liquor stores, pharmacies, and many more services utilize drive-thrus for quick service.

➢ National Thermal Engineer Day – Thermally speaking, with the passion to under-stand and work with heat management, it seems fitting to have July 24th, which is recog-nized as one of the hottest days of the year, as National Thermal Engineer Day.

➢ National Tequila Day – On July 24 grab a lime and the salt. It’s National Tequila Day! ➢ National Amelia Earhart Day – This day honors the famous aviation pioneer, Amelia

Earhart and celebrates her birth. Author and American aviation pioneer, Amelia Mary Earhart was born on July 24, 1897. Earhart flew solo across the Atlantic Ocean on May 20, 1932. As a result, she became the first woman pilot (aviatrix) to complete the journey. Setting this record earned Earhart the United States Distinguished Flying Cross. Her ac-complishments would inspire women around the globe to the world of aviation.

➢ Pioneer Day is an official holiday celebrated on July 24th in the American state of Utah, with some celebrations taking place in regions of surrounding states originally settled by Mormon pioneers. It commemorates the entry of Brigham Young and the first group of Mormon pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley on July 24, 1847, where the Latter-day Saints settled after being forced from Nauvoo, Illinois, and other locations in the eastern United States. Parades, fireworks, rodeos, and other fes-tivities help commemorate the event. Similar to July 4, many lo-cal and all state-run government offices and many businesses are closed on Pioneer Day. In addition to being an official holiday in Utah, Pioneer Day is considered a special occasion by many members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). On Pioneer Day, some Latter-day Saints walk portions of the Mormon Trail or reenact entering the Salt Lake Valley by handcart. Latter-day Saints throughout the United States and around the world may celebrate July 24 in remembrance of the LDS Church’s pioneer era, with songs, dances, potlucks, and pioneer related activities. While the holiday has strong links to the LDS Church, it is officially a celebration for everyone, regardless of faith and nationality, who emigrated to the Salt Lake Valley during the pioneer era, which is generally consid-ered to have ended with the 1869 arrival of the transcontinental railroad. Notable non-LDS American pioneers from this period include Episcopal Bishop Daniel S. Tuttle, who was responsible for Utah’s first non-Mormon schools (Rowland Hall-St. Mark’s) and first public hospital (St. Mark’s) in the late 19th century. The Intertribal Powwow at Liberty Park in Salt Lake City honors the cultural heritage and contributions of the area’s Native Ameri-cans, helping Utahns to gain a deeper understanding of the region’s history.

Granger Medical Clinic offers EXCEPTIONAL healthcare for YOU and YOUR FAMILYwith a lifetime commitment to QUALITY, COMPASSION, and RESPECT.

Every year, SelectHealth chooses 25 organizations who are devoted to improving the lives of others, and

awards each one $2,500 and a marketing package to use towards their mission. Th is year SelectHealth honored an organization in Tooele, Life’s Worth Living. Th eir goal is to bring awareness and education to suicide prevention. Th e grant funds will be used to train new suicide prevention train-ers to expand their free classes. Founded in 2014, Life’s Worth Living Foundation is created to raise awareness of, educate on, and prevent suicide. We are a registered 501c3 charity primarily focused on the Tooele County area, but our support oft en stretches throughout the State of Utah.

Life’s Worth Living Story:Indescribable tragedy struck our little

hometown of Tooele, Utah three times within a few weeks in late February 2014. Life for three local families and many friends will never return to the way it was. It was a tragic loss to all of us. Numer-ous tears were shed as many of us at-tended three funerals back to back. Th ese were outstanding young men that had a tremendous impact on those they knew. Suicide has left us asking ourselves: why? While visiting with a family member of one of these young men, the conversa-tions kept returning to the same questions. “What could I have done diff erently?

What could I have done to save him?” It was during this conversation that we agreed that something should be done to raise awareness and prevent this unspeak-able sadness from happening to others. Th at some good should come from these heartbreaking events. Th at we could ultimately play a small part in becoming a blessing to others. It was with this goal in mind that the Life’s Worth Living Founda-tion came to be. Th e story of these young men, like the many before and aft er, is where our story begins. As a foundation, we have been able to provide a place for people struggling with suicidal thoughts, as well as survivors of suicide, to come and have a forum to share their thoughts and struggles at our monthly support group. We have a speaking tour where we educate the youth about suicide prevention and

what resources are available. We off er a crisis hotline for those who needed to talk. Last but not least we have been able to help with fi nancial aid to devastated families left to bury a loved one.
