‘Tis the season for family and feasting and, dare I say, weight gain. But that’s alright. Well, that’s what I tell myself, at any rate. Th e fat will help us to stay warm throughout the winter… right? No, now is the time when we need to be extra vigilant against those unwanted inches or suff er the consequences for it come swimsuit season. Luckily, Sleek Physique Body Sculpting is here to help.Off ering ultrasound and radio frequency treatments, Sleek Physique employs the latest technologies to help ease the fat-loss process. “We use ultrasound and radio fre-quency to cavitate the fat cells and tighten your skin,” says Stephanie Pitman, owner of Sleek Physique. “Ultrasound cavitation creates bubbles in the fat cells and the more bubbles created, the weaker the cell wall be-comes until it implodes. Th en the liquefi ed fat is released into the body to be metabo-lized. And then if you were to incorporate exercise aft er treatment you can burn up to fi ve times more fat in a workout than you would normally. One down side to this treatment is a buzz in your ears during treat-ment. It can be a little annoying. It hap-pens due to the shaking of your fat cells, but
goes away as soon as the treatment is over.” A little buzzing in my ears for up to 5 times the results from my workouts? I think I can handle that.Th at you have to go and work out still is an important point as is healthy eating habits, Stephanie notes. “I’ve had a few people who call in and think this is a quick fi x but it’s not. You have to be willing to commit to making some positive health changes in your lifestyle. You can get immediate results, which are permanent, but you have to do your part to keep the inches off . For some people it can be as small as half an inch. We have an example of one woman who, in an hour and a half, lost fi ve inches. Another woman aft er losing almost nine inches in six treatments was so motivated to make positive changes that she’s incor-
porated more exercise and a better diet, and then she’s going to come back in for another round of treatments. It’s a great motivator, because you see results.” And did someone mention ‘skin tighten-ing?’ Well that’s the second part of the primary technologies employed at Sleek Physique: radio frequency treatments. “Th e radio frequency further breaks down those weakened fat cells and it helps to stimulate collagen production, thereby improving skin tone – if you have age spots, wrin-kles, stretch marks, acne scars, it’ll help to reduce those,” states Pitman. “We’ve also seen some amazing results in face and neck wrinkles. In just over a month we helped a woman in her mid 50’s take 10 years off her face.” Collagen is a connective tissue that, in skin, is primarily responsible for main-taining skin fi rmness and also contributes to skin elasticity. Both are qualities which begin to decline in our skin aft er about our mid-20’s, resulting in those pesky wrinkles and crow’s feet, which seem so frustratingly determined to make us look older than we feel. In addition to the high-tech equipment
‘Tis the season for family, feasting and weight gain.

“Contagion” by Tim Lebbon (Pyr, $17.99) Reviewed by Ealish Waddell
In the near future of the “Toxic City” trilogy, Lon-don has been decimated by an act of terrorism that released a biological agent known as Evolve. Most of the population were killed instantly by the toxin, and a few who survived found themselves with new mental powers to heal, to manipulate and even to kill. To contain these frightening new abilities, the government razed the suburbs and declared Lon-
don forbidden ground. When teen Jack and his friends uncover evidence that their relatives might still be alive inside the city, they risk their lives to cross the border. Instead of the empty wastes they’d been led to expect, they en-counter a war zone, where scattered refugees struggle to survive, hunted not only by feral beasts and military thugs, but also by vicious members of their own kind. To his horror, Jack’s father has become one of the latter, changed by Evolve into a villain beyond recog-nition. And aft er a bizarre encounter with Patient Zero, Jack himself begins to develop odd new abilities ... In the fi nal book of the trilogy, “Contagion,” Jack has managed to rescue his mother and sister, but his mission in London
is not over. Th eir friend Lucy-Anne is lost in the mutant-fi lled wilds of the north. Jack’s father and his gang of lethal Superi-ors continue their reign of terror. And the mas-sive bomb buried under London has been triggered, counting down to annihi-lation in a matter of hours. As Jack urgently searches his newfound powers for solutions, he realizes that he alone may be the key to London’s future, and that it just might take everything he’s got.Energetic and fast-paced, “Contagion” is a gripping wrap-up to an intense dys-topian adventure, deliver-ing moment aft er moment of visceral horror right up to the shocking end. A VERY SOPHISTICATED PLAY
It is said that there’s no such thing as inventing a new play in bridge. And, taking into account the billions of hands that have been played through the years, this is largely true. Even so, every once in a while someone seems to come up with something that has not been seen before.
Consider this deal where West leads a heart against three notrump. Declarer ducks East’s jack of hearts and wins East’s king continuation with the ace. South now leads a diamond, and it does not matter how East-West elect to defend. Th e best they can do is to score two heart tricks and the A-K of di-amonds to hold declarer to nine tricks. Th is scenario seems altogether normal, and it appears that South must make the contract, come what may. How-ever, three notrump can be defeated if East does something very unusual. All he has to do is to play the eight of hearts instead of the jack at trick one! Th is might look very peculiar, but it has a dramatic eff ect on
the outcome, since South can no longer make the contract. Declarer is forced to win the eight of hearts with the ten. Whenever he leads a diamond, West wins with the king and returns a heart. South can take the ace of hearts whenever he pleases, but he cannot score more than eight tricks. East’s play of the eight of hearts is not, strictly speaking, a brand-new play in bridge, since there are variations of it that arise under many diff er-ent circumstances. But it is the right thing to do here, because East’s only real chance of stopping the contract is to fi nd his partner with the king of diamonds.(c) 2013 King Features Synd., Inc.
HOLLYWOOD -- Why did Sam Champion leave “Good Morning America” to work at Th e Weather Channel? Sam, at GMA since 2006, became such an important part of the team that weather was almost his mi-nor job. Since GMA leads the ratings, it’s unlikely he was pushed out, like Ann Curry at “Th e Today Show” or Al Roker, who’s on Th e Weather Channel in addition to “Th e Today Show.” Th e Weather Channel is a step back for Sam. Is it a coincidence Sam left less than a year since he “came out” offi cial-ly and married his male partner? Just asking! Also at ABC, Katie Couric’s daytime talk show is all but canceled because of
low ratings in its second year. ***
Ben Affl eck and Matt Damon, who won Oscars for writing “Good Will Hunting” in 1997, are reteaming, as producers, to bring the DC comic book series “Sleeper” to the big screen. No word yet if either or both will act in the fi lm.Hugh Jackman has completed shoot-ing on “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” as Wolverine. Th e highly anticipated sequel arrives May 23. Jackman has been before the cameras with Sigour-ney Weaver in Johannesburg, South Africa, since October in the science-fi c-tion comedy “Chappy,” set for a March 2015 bow.Could Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence be the new Spencer Tracy/Katherine Hepburn or William Pow-ell/Myrna Loy team? Th ey scored big in “Silver Linings Playbook” (for which she won an Oscar), and are currently
on screen in “American Hustle,” to be followed by the “secret project” they shot in March of 2012, the Depres-sion-era drama “Serena.” Jennifer’s Oscar win, coupled with her top-gross-ing “Hunger Games: Catching Fire” and Bradley’s track record have started a bidding war among distributors unlike any seen in recent years. Th e buzz is that Cooper and Lawrence will do it again! Word on the street is that
Harvey Weinstein wants it, and what Harvey wants, he usually gets!Channing Tatum is one busy guy. He’ll be heard as Superman in the animated “Lego Movie,” out Feb. 7. Th en come June 23, he stars with Jonah Hill in “22 Jump Street,” followed by “Jupiter As-cending” with Mila Kunis, Sean Bean, Eddie Redmayne (“My Week with Marilyn”) and the most recent screen Romeo, Douglas Booth, bowing July 25. Th en he’ll lend his voice again to the 3D computer-animated “Book of Life,” with Zoe Saldana and Christina Applegate, out Oct. 17. He’s currently fi lming “Foxcatcher,” with Steve Carell and Mark Ruff alo, in which People’s “Th e sexiest man alive” plays 1984 gold medal Olympic wrestler Max Schultz. With a new baby at home, keeping him and his wife up nights, small wonder he’s chosen location, location, location!

Sheet Music
Q: My great-aunt recent-ly died in Mississippi. For years she taught young students piano, and her estate includes piles of older sheet music. Should we keep or toss it? -- Johnnie, Baton Rouge, La.A: Wayland Bunnell is an expert and appraiser of sheet music, and he stated that unless you have pieces that are ex-traordinary, they proba-bly would not be worth appraising. He is willing to advise you, however, and can be contacted at [email protected].
Sheet music to be aware of includes early rag-time, personality sheets from the 1920s and ‘30s promoting stars such as Al Jolson, Shirley Temple and Judy Garland, and pre-1925 Irving Berlin compositions. Most sheet music spotted in shops and at antique malls generally sells in the $1 to $3 range.
***Q: My dad owned a typewriter repair shop and saved about a dozen older machines that he thought were unique. I would like to fi nd out how much they might be worth. -- Bill, Topeka, KansasA: Collectors divide machines into three basic periods: Pioneer, from 1874 to 1890; Classic, from 1890 to 1920; and Modern, all machines manufactured aft er 1920. As with most collect-ibles, values depend on several factors including condition and rarity. One of the better type-writer experts is Anthony Castillo, owner of TTS Business and Prod-
ucts, 325 Nassau Blvd., Garden City South, NY 11530. His website and email address are www.typewritercollector.com; and [email protected].
***Q: I have what I think is an old U.S. Army knife, stamped “US 1918.” What do you think it is worth? -- Bill, Wolcott, N.Y.A: One of the better references I have found is “American Premium Guide to Knives and Razors: Identifi cation and Value Guide,” by Jim Sargent (Krause Books). Th is might be a good place to begin your search.

and in an eff ort to prepare you on every front for the battle against your trouble zones, Sleek Physique also off ers a comfortable, cozy space for Zumba and yoga classes, and basic fi tness equipment as a way to bridge the gap between home gyms and the bigger, sometimes intimidating, fi tness centers. As a matter of fact, Pitman will oft en require that her ultrasound clients spend at least a few minutes on her fi tness equipment – in order to jumpstart the body’s natural process-ing of those liquefi ed fat cells – before allowing them to move on to the radio frequency treatment. “I fi gured if I was going to have exercise equipment, I may as well make it available to the public, too. Th e back entrance is for the 24-hour gym access for a small access fee. We have a TV and DVD player along with a video library [featuring an array of workout programs] that you can come and work out to. It’s always funner to work out with a friend. You work harder and push them harder. I’ve had people who set up a time to come in and do the P90X routine with a friend.”So while Sleek Physique is by no means providing a magic-bullet solution, they do provide options, both effi cient and fun – at least as fun as working out can ever be. “It’s a nice kick-start for peo-ple, to get them motivated, so they can
see the results and want to continue,” suggests Stephanie. “It’s good for peo-ple who’ve reached a plateau and are just getting frustrated. And even for people who are fairly fi t but they just have a few problem areas that they’d like to focus on. It can really help all those variants. It doesn’t matter the age.”

Why A Staffi ng Agency?
Every day companies like A2Z Staffi ng Solutions match millions of people with jobs. In an increasingly complex market heavily infl uenced by pressure to master technology skills even in basic, entry level positions, having an advocate working for you on the inside can be a great help. Not only is a job with a temporary staffi ng agency a great way to build your skills as an employee, it’s also an effi cient oppor-tunity to establish a network with top level executives across industries. For example, consider a nurse practitioner who has just graduated from school and needs to fi nd a job in a particular geographic area. Rather than spending days fi lling out applications for diff er-ent positions at multiple companies, this person can schedule one interview at A2Z Staffi ng Solutions and sub-mit one resume - and let the staffi ng coordinator review the area job market on his or her behalf. Th is results in a win-win situation, because oft en com-panies don’t have the time or resources to review prospective employees in the way they would like, which is why they end up contacting organizations that can manage the process on their behalf.
Top 3 Reasons To Work With A2Z Staffi ng Professionals:
1. We know where the jobs are. Busi-nesses and state agencies of all sizes turn to us for access to talent and peace of mind with temporary and contract positions that are open right now, right away.
2. We can help you get that per-manent placement you’ve been looking for. With a strong network of relationships that connects pro-fessionals across industries, coor-dinators at A2Z Staffi ng Solutions collectively share a unique ability to sit down with you and discuss your long term goals - and build a path to success. A whopping 30% of the Montana residents who worked with a temporary staffi ng agency in 2012 found their short term job to be a bridge to the long term opportunity they were look-ing for.
3. Flexibility. We have the ability to off er you a level of fl exibility with short term and long term positions you can’t fi nd anywhere else. Whether you’re a part-time or full-time resident of Montana, the opportunities for employment continue to shift with the seasons – and we’re always on top of the trends.
