Home School Reading From Monday we are reverting back to our usual systems for home school reading books… and we cannot wait! Over the last 12 months, our school has invested heavily in Oxford Owls and Sora to enable our pupils to continue to have access to books during the COVID-19 pandemic. Whilst both of these platforms have been great (and will continue to be accessible for all children), we strongly believe that children gain so much from actually holding a book and being explore to explore it more readily than through a screen. From Monday, children will be able to bring their book bags to / from school as and when they need to change their reading book. Being able to confidently decode words is a great skill being able to understand what the words mean and build the story / link non-fiction facts to real life in our heads is even better. So, as before, our children from Y1 to Y6 will need to complete a ‘Reading Response’ activity (according to their reading level) as part of their reading development. Hedgehog Class Explorers This week, Hedgehog Class have been exploring the world of minibeasts and habitats. The children have enjoyed finding the right materials to add to their snail habitat after researching all about snails. They also found lots of moist materials to put in the tank and have been trying different foods for the snails to eat each day. From this, the children have been trying hard to write facts about snails whilst observing them in their new environment. As a follow up to their learning this half term, Hedgehog Class are heading out and about in our local area and visiting Stubbylee Greenhouses on Wednesday 19 th May. In preparation for the visit, we are inviting the children to bring in a maximum of £3.50 in a named, sealed envelop which they will then be able to spend at the café as part of their learning all about the world around us and the number system. Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather on the day we’re hoping (and dreaming!) that it’s going to 30 th April 2021 Lane End, Bacup OL13 9RR Telephone: 01706 877900 Email: [email protected] Don’t forget, you can…
