IMPORTANT DATES
Dear Parents/Carers,
What a wonderful Science based day we had last Thursday. Our day started with Dave setting up a number of
experiments students had worked with over the year. Students were able to explain the activity they were
involved in developing with other year levels. Every class had the opportunity to visit the Gallery and participate in
a range of activities. It was great to see a few parents come along to see what their child/ren had been doing. This
sort of event does not just happen, a great deal of preparation, setting up and cleaning up goes into making it a
success. A very big thank you to Dave for the enormous amount of work Dave did in his own time to enable us to
have access to these activities. If you see Dave around, please say thank you!

The Discovery Centre travelled out to Heathcote to run a range of activities with schools, the kindergarten and
our Heathcote community. The wet weather meant we couldn’t walk down, thank you to Benalla Bus Lines for
being available for us to book their services on the day. Students loved the activities and enjoyed trying different
things. As usual the behaviour of our students was excellent, and feedback about their positive behaviour is
always a great thing to hear.
Speeding Cars on Herriot Street
We have noticed many cars travelling at speed along Herriot Street during drop off and pick up times. We have
communicated this to the local Police. Between 8.00am - 9.30am, 2.30 – 4.00pm the speed limit on Herriot
Street outside the school is signposted at 40kilometres an hour. For the safety of our students, families and
community members can you please make sure you are observing the speed limit on the signposted section of
Herriot Street. We appreciate your anticipated support.
Open Water Learning Experience - Friday 7th December, 10.00am– 12.00
Our Year 3-6 students will participate in an open water learning session with Life Saving Victoria at Randall ’s
Cove Swimming area, Lake Eppalock. We have been very lucky to have been included in this activity. Life Saving
Victoria recommends wearing closed toed shoes during this session due to the potential for sharp debris,
shells and rocks common to this area. Students will be transported by bus to and from the venue. A consent
form will be sent out prior to student’s attendance.
Learning Interviews
Learning Interviews are coming up mid December. A letter will be sent home soon with times available for you to
book in. Communication Books and Reports will be available just prior to you going into your interview. They will
be held in the Gallery. The feedback from interviews at midyear was extremely positive, we look forward to
sharing with you the positive growth of your child and what aspects of their learning they still need to work on
for next year. Reports will not be sent home with children, they will be available at interview. The sharing of
information about your child is very important. Please check the dates on the newsletter calendar and mark that
day in your diary.
Enjoy the week ahead.

Head Lice
We have had several incidents of head lice reported to the school. We ask that you be extra vigilant and
regularly and thoroughly check your child's hair.
If we all work as a team on this we will achieve the best results for our
students.
If your child has long hair we ask that they wear it tied back when they are
attending school.

Foundation at The Science Expo
Last Thursday, the Foundation students attended a Science Expo at the
reserve. The expo was held by people visiting from The Discovery
Centre and involved a variety of activities related to science.
Throughout the hour and a half session, the students got to interact
with Bee Bots. The Bee Bots allowed the students to learn about
direction, problem solving and sequencing with all the children having
lots of fun playing with them. Another activity involved the students
pulling apart and fixing walkie talkies and computer keyboards. The
students engaged in some role play, with a lot of them using the walkie
talkies to tell their parents that they were at the expo having loads of
fun. Other activities the students participated in was computer
programming, coding a robot and creating binary necklaces using the
first letter of their name. All of the Foundation students had a blast
attending the expo!
