Healthy Start, Healthy Finish (HSHF) is a nonprofit organization that strives to engage our volunteers in a worthwhile afterschool program and optimize our sponsors’ contributions. Our program aims to: Provide essential tools for children to develop by maintaining healthy lifestyles through nutrition and physical education Offer a free service in a fun, safe, and interactive environment Empower participants to make healthy, positive choices Service is provided for 2-hours after school for grades 4-6 Monday – Friday throughout the calendar school year Unique curriculum designed by nutritionists, exercise physiologists Sample 4th Grade Schedule: Obesity is a national epidemic that is linked to many serious chronic diseases and contributes to rising healthcare costs. HSHF believes that extending healthy resources and education can positively impact communities throughout the United States. The communities affected lack resources to facilities, healthy foods, proper education, and are financially burdened. For this reason, we are taking action to address the needs of underserved communities. HSHF is currently providing services to elementary schools in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. Fayette County Facts: •Ranks the worst for having access to recreational facilities and to healthy foods •Ranked second worst in the state for healthy behaviors including diet, exercise, and obesity •24% of students in grades K-6 th report much higher obesity rates than any other region •Second highest obesity rate for men in the state •Seventh highest obesity rate for women in the state EDUCATING AND EMPOWERING THE CHILDREN OF TODAY TO BUILD A HEALTHIER TOMORROW Our Grants and Fundraising Director secures funding throughout the year with grants, sponsors, and donations in order to make the HSHF afterschool program available with no costs to our participants Currently the Pennsylvania government is awarding $103 Billion dollars to nonprofit organizations and HSHF is aiming to obtain funds in the following year
