“DIABETES RESOURCE AND COLLABORATION HUB” WEBINAR

Webinar Date: 23 June 2015Webinar Time: 1200-1300 ET

NMCPHC launched an initiative to help diabetes and health educators across the MHS who are interested in diabetes self-management to gather best practices and lessons learned on diabetes prevention and control. NMCPHC is creating the Diabetes Resource and Collaboration Hub (DRCH), which will provide an evidence-based, standardized approach to providing diabetes self-management education for the Navy. The Hub will save diabetes educators in the Navy and perhaps, across all services, time and money in developing their own resources.

On 23 June from 1200-1300 ET, join CDR Drayton, the Director of Population Health at NMCPHC and Anthony Barkley, Public Health Educator at NMCPHC, who will introduce you to the Diabetes Resource and Collaboration Hub (DRCH). Attend via DCS for a an overview of the DRCH and a demonstration of the supporting DRCH milSuite site developed to connect Navy diabetes educators to existing resources and facilitate collaboration between NMCPHC and diabetes educators across the MHS.

Our webinar will conclude with an invitation for you to provide virtual feedback and participate in an upcoming stakeholder feedback session to offer input and recommendations for the DRCH to help NMCPHC ensure the existing resources linked on milSuite serve the needs of diabetes educators.

JUNE IS MEN’S HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH

June is Men’s Health Month, an opportunity to increase awareness about health issues important to men, such as prostate, testicular, skin and colon cancers, hypertension, obesity, and heart disease. This month the Military Health System (MHS) will focus on the importance of recognizing preventable health problems and encouraging early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys within the DoD community. Please follow the links for more information and resources concerning Men’s Health and the observance of June as Men’s Health Month:

YOGA OFFERED AT WALTER REED NATIONAL MILITARY MEDICAL CENTER (WRNMCM)

It appears centuries-old practice involving postures, stretches, meditation and breathing provides benefits today at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center’s (WRNMMC) 7-West inpatient psychiatry ward and in the WRNMMC four-week, psychiatric outpatient Continuity Service “day program.” Learn more about how the yoga classes are helping patients at WRNMMC at: http://www.health.mil/News/Articles/2015/06/11/Yoga-Ancient-Practice-Helps-Todays-Patients.
