    Ethnicity

Count me in 2010Care Quality CommissionThis report on the Count me in 2010 census calls for organisations outside of the health caresector to help improve mental health and well-being among black and minority ethnic (BME)

groups. Collaborative work with education authorities, police authorities, the criminal justicesystem, voluntary organisations and BME groups in particular is needed. This to tackle theeconomic and social factors that contribute to higher-than-average hospital admission ratesamong some ethnic groups. This is the final Count me in report. Since 2005, the census hasbeen an important factor in providing information on the ethnicity of inpatients in mental healthand learning disability services. It was designed to support the Department of Healths five-year action plan for improving mental health services for BME communities which ended in2010.http://www.cqc.org.uk/guidanceforprofessionals/mentalhealth/countmeincensus/countmeincensus2010.cfm

Tobacco use among minority ethnic populations and cessation interventionsBetter Health

This report concludes that while smoking rates have decreased within the general population, this pattern does not seem to be reflected among black and minority ethnic communities. Useof different tobacco products, including shisha and smokeless tobacco, is more commonamong minority ethnic groups. Regulation and cessation outreach work must acknowledgethese different products, and adapt to the specific needs of different ethnic groups.http://www.better-health.org.uk/files/health/health-brief22.pdf

seeking to identify new people at risk). The paper draws out the implications of those findingsfor future development of QOF and other pay-for performance schemes and concludes thatgeneral practice should be supported in its responsibility for improving public health andreducing inequalities.http://www.kingsfund.org.uk/publications/impact_of_quality.html
