    Description:

    Health education provides a meaningful and relevant context in which students can

    develop knowledge and skills essential for success in college and career, and it provides

    the foundation for leading healthy, productive lives.

    Wyoming Standards:

    1 Health and Information, Products and Resources: Students will access, analyze

    and evaluate health information, products and resources.

    2 Problem Solving and Decision Making: Students will use critical thinking and

    systematic processes to examine health related problems and make decisions that

    enhance health and reduce or avoid health risks.

    3 Effective Communication: Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal

    communication skills to enhance health and reduce or avoid health risks.

    4 Personal and Social Responsibility: Students will demonstrate the ability to use

    personal and social skills that are associated with taking responsible action for enhancinghealth and reducing or avoiding health risks.

    Requirements:

    Students are required to complete projects, tests, study guides, quizzes, news

    article reports and a written semester final.

    Students are required to be in class and on time, have the appropriate learningmaterials (text and writing materials) and contribute to classroom discussions.

    Late class work will only be accepted for reduced credit.

    Grading Practices:

    Grading Scale: 90-100 A

    80-89 B

    70-79 C

    60-69 D

    59 or lower F

    This course is a semester class and will be graded accordingly. The semester grade will

    be figured from the following items: final 20% , projects 30%, chapter tests 30% and the

    remaining 20% of the grade will come from quizzes, study guides and news article

    reports.

    Attendance Policy

    When a student exceeds ten (10) absence points, credit will be lost for Physical Ed /Health Ed classes. The student may recover credit by completing the following steps:

    1. Contacting Instructor2. Developing an Attendance Performance Contract with the instructor3. Performance Contract may include: exercise plan, work out plan, and/or written

    work covering information missed.

    On completion of the above steps, to the instructors satisfaction, the student will

    position themselves back into GOOD STANDING and re-establish credit for the course.

    Advanced Proficient Basic

    Physical Education cut scores are figured on an average of the Level 1 Physical Education

    course and the highest score earned from a Level 2 Physical Education Course (weight

    training, advanced physical education or swimming).

    Wyoming Performance Standards:

    Advanced: Students at the advanced level demonstrate a comprehensive (in-depth)

    understanding of developmentally appropriate health concepts within most health content areas

    and health skills that are necessary to lead a healthy lifestyle and avoid preventable disease,

    including the relationships within and among all the health concepts and health skills. They can

    apply all health skills to multiple health concepts. Students usually explain complex relationships

    between multiple health concepts within and among health content areas and make connections

    with most of the health skills.

    Proficient: Students at the proficient level demonstrate some depth in their understanding of

    developmentally appropriate health concepts and health skills that are necessary to lead a healthy

    lifestyle and avoid preventable disease, including the relationships within and among most the

    health concepts and health skills. They can apply most health skills to multiple health concepts.

    Students consistently explain relationships between multiple health concepts within and amonghealth content areas and make connections with most of the health skills.

    Basic: Students at the basic level demonstrate limited depth in their understanding of

    developmentally appropriate health concepts and health skills that are necessary to lead a healthy

    lifestyle and avoid preventable disease, including the relationships within and among some of the

    health concepts and health skills. They can apply some health skills to multiple health concepts.

    Students inconsistently explain relationships between multiple health concepts within and among

    health content areas and make connections with some of the health skills.

    Below Basic: Students at the below basic level demonstrate limited or no depth in their

    understanding of developmentally appropriate health concepts and health skills that are

    necessary to lead a healthy lifestyle and avoid preventable disease. They have difficulty

    understanding the relationships within and among some of the health concepts and health skills.

    They rarely can apply some health skills to multiple health concepts. Students at the below basic

    level require extensive support or provide little or no evidence in meeting the standard.
