Elizabeth (Betsy) Davis has joined Whiteford Taylor Preston’s Richmond office. Her practice includes advising management in all areas of labor and employment law includ-ing representing employers in state and federal courts in the areas of discrimination, fair labor standards, family and medical leave, wrongful discharge, covenants not to compete and breaches of employment contracts, as well as in defense of EEOC charges and DOL investigations.

Gentry Locke has announced that Ashley W. Winsky has joined the firm’s Richmond office as a partner in the Transportation, Insurance, Plaintiff Personal Injury, and Civil Litigation practices. In addition to representing individuals in wrongful death and cata-strophic injury claims, her practice includes defending motor carriers, railroads, amusement parks, bus companies, product manufacturers, and business owners against a wide array of personal injury claims.

Eckert Seamans has welcomed Daniel J. Abrams as an associate in the firm’s Rich-mond office and Business Division. when he was elected to the Newport News City Council. In 1990 he was elected mayor of the city. He served as mayor from 1990 through 1996, when he stepped down to become the president and CEO of a regional economic development organization rep-resenting Southeast Virginia’s 1.6 million citizens.

From 1998 through 2002 DuVal served as the Secretary of Commerce and Trade for the Commonwealth of Virginia. During his term as Secretary, Virginia attracted a record-setting 1,500 economic development projects representing 156,850 new jobs and $13.7 billion in private investment.

Stephen Moret has served as President and CEO of the Virginia Economic Devel-opment Partnership (VEDP) since January 2017. At VEDP, Moret has collaborated with state, regional, and local partners to craft an ambitious vision focused on several

transformational goals, including accelerat-ing employment growth; enabling every region to grow; and moving back to the top of national business climate rankings. He led Virginia’s successful state-and-local team bid for Amazon’s HQ2 and is launching a world-class, custom workforce program along with the Virginia Community Col-lege System.

Before joining VEDP, Moret served as chief executive of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC), which he and his team transformed into a nationally competitive, re-gional economic development organization.

Additionally, Moret served as secretary of the Louisiana Department of Economic Development (LED), where he led business development efforts and built higher partner-ships that helped secure a wide variety of projects in urban and rural areas that totaled more than $62 billion in capital investment.

Prior to LED, Moret was CEO of BRAC. He also served as a consultant with McK-insey & Company; a public policy fellow

with the Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana; and a consultant to Harvard Business School.

Judges are invited to attend the luncheon free of charge as guests of the Association. However, reservations are required and must be made 48 hours in advance of the program. Judges who would like to be picked up at either the John Marshall Courts Building or the Supreme Court Building are asked to notify the Bar office by 1:00 p.m. on the day before the luncheon.

Members are reminded that a waiting list for individuals who have not made reserva-tions by the deadline will be started at 12:00 noon at the registration table on the day of the event. If space is available, members will be accommodated on a first come, first served basis. There is no guarantee that members on the waiting list will be admitted.before the luncheon.

Bench-Bar ConferenceThe Bench-Bar Conference is designed to promote discussion on issues of interest to judges and lawyers and provide an opportunity for each to offer their reactions and feedback.
