www.hillingdon.gov.uk/towncentres Improvements now underway Work has now started on ‘Phase One’ of the Hayes Town Centre Improvements in Coldharbour Lane from Minet Drive to Hunters Grove. Early work includes removing trees which are no longer thriving and which specialists have recommended should be replaced with new species that can cope better with a town centre environment. Preparations have also started for the new and improved street lighting. Do not be alarmed that some of the new lamp columns are in the middle of the pavement or possibly in a parking bay. They are correctly sited for the new alignment of the pavements. Once in place new lanterns will be attached to the columns which will light both the road and the pavements. The original lamp columns will then be removed. Hayes Town Centre Improvements Work has also begun to remove the existing central ‘raised hump’ and build outs between Minet Drive and Hunters Grove. New pavements and kerbs have started to be laid in this section. This will be completed in stages to minimise disruption to traders and visitors. The pedestrian crossing in this section will also be upgraded by Transport for London, with work planned to start in May. We will use this opportunity to upgrade the remaining private forecourts in front of the shops in Coldharbour Lane. All work is being carried out by the council’s contractor O’Hara Brothers, under the supervision of the London Borough of Hillingdon. The contractors are experienced working within busy town centres and every effort will be made to minimise the amount of disruption to residents and businesses. Further information on the improvements can be found online on the town centre improvements webpage at www.hillingdon.gov.uk/towncentres If you have any questions about the improvements please contact: London Borough of Hillingdon 01895 556000 or O’Hara Bros 020 8424 2220 1 Spring 2015

Improvements now underwayWork has now started on ‘Phase One’ of the Hayes Town Centre Improvements in Coldharbour Lane from Minet Drive to Hunters Grove.

Hayes Town Centre Improvements

Work has also begun to remove the existing central ‘raised hump’ and build outs between Minet Drive and Hunters Grove.

Further information on the improvements can be found online on the town centre improvements webpage at www.hillingdon.gov.uk/towncentres

Frequently asked questionsWhy do parking bays need to be suspended? The main reason that parking bays are suspended is to make sure that the area is safe for everybody. This includes pedestrians and traffic as well as the contractor’s employees working in the area.

Alternative parking can be found in a number of council car parks within Hayes Town Centre, which include Pump Lane, Civic Hall and Blyth Road. These not only offer 30 minutes free parking but also have long-stay parking available with a reduced fee for HillingdonFirst cardholders.

When and how long will the bays be suspended for?Parking bays will be suspended while all improvement works take place. The work will be completed in stages to reduce to the number of bays suspended at a time and to minimise disruption.

How do I know which bays are suspended?Notices will be in place to indicate the area/number of spaces suspended. Barriers will also be placed around the suspended bays. These are all 24 hour suspensions. This is for safety reasons as materials and contractor machinery will still be on-site outside of normal working hours.

What would happen if I parked in an area which is suspended? If your vehicle is parked in an area where parking is suspended, you risk receiving a parking ticket and fine of up to £120.

What if I have a special delivery? If you require access to an area which is suspended, for example to receive a large delivery, arrangements can be made to accommodate this. Please contact O’Hara directly on 020 8424 2220, and they will be able assist you.

Parking during the improvements

To facilitate the improvement works, parking suspensions will be in place as needed. We will aim to keep the number of space suspended to a minimum to avoid disruption for businesses and shoppers. Up until 13 May 2015 all parking will be suspended between:

What else are we doing?

Hayes landmark featuresWe know from recent town centre regeneration work completed within Ruislip Manor and Northwood Hills town centres that whilst people appreciate new brighter street lighting and new pavements, it is the landmark features that have created the ‘wow’ factor, such as the railway bridge painted with ‘Ruislip Manor’ lettering and new LED lighting creating interest throughout the year.

We now have the opportunity to create a similar impact and interest from the Hayes Town Centre Improvements Scheme. The ambition is to create a contemporary and distinctive feature for Hayes Town Centre that builds on the rich musical heritage associated with the area and reflects the cultural diversity of Hayes. The landmark features are intended to help create a sense of place making existing residents feel proud of their origins and new residents aware of the character and heritage of Hayes.

The council have appointed architects, The Decorators, to develop proposals for the Hayes landmark features. They will carry out extensive public engagement and consultation so that the finished designs are supported by local residents and businesses. Further updates on the public engagement and consultation will be provided in future bulletins.

Subway improvementsThe main pedestrian route connecting Hayes and Harlington Station to Blyth Road and The Old Vinyl Factory is a very tired and unwelcoming subway. Ahead of the planned Crossrail station improvements the council have carried out short term refurbishment works to the subway, which includes:•repainting both entrances•new lit signage on both entrances •cleaning the existing tiles.

•Boat rides•Kayak rides•Music•Street entertainers•Information stalls

The event is being supported by a range of partners including Hayes Town Partnership, Hayes Town Business Forum, Hillingdon Canal Partnership, Hillingdon Narrow Boats Association and High Point Village.
