This year’s theme: “Act. Make an Impact,” aims to encourage the people to do their share in caring for the environment in order to leave a lasting impact for future generations. “We have only one planet and we all have a responsibility to take care of it.” said Haribon Foundation Chief Operating Officer Maria Belinda de la Paz. She added that with climate change and the continued degradation of ecosystems, we are at the risk of losing precious species including the ecosystem services necessary for us to survive. However, she also emphasized that “ the small acts we do in our homes, schools or community can make a huge impact to the environment.” These activities include taking care of plants in our homes, planting native trees in our yard, segregating our waste. To guide our actions, Haribon shares below its code of action. “I live sustainably to ease my impact on the environment. I interact positively with all that is alive. I plant a rainforest. I keep the shores clean. I marvel at the sight of wildlife in the wild. I oppose measures that damage our natural environment. I adopt a seedling. I refuse, reduce, reuse and recycle.
