Hello, I’m Drew Hendricker, LCS Sales Manager for the Central Plains. Working with corn and soybeans for the last eight years has helped me bring fresh ideas and a new perspective to the ever-changing wheat industry. It’s an exciting time to be involved in wheat innovation, and we’re thrilled to bring you our product guide for the 2014 season. Inside you’ll fi nd technical information on each of our HRWW varieties, as well as a taste of what lies ahead.

As the main contact for all our Limagrain Cereal Seeds dealers, I have the honor of working with the best in the industry. Please let me know if you have any questions about our lineup of superior wheat genetics.

Drew Hendricker, Regional Sales ManagerContact: 970-231-8875 / [email protected]

Dr. Marla Barnett, Wheat BreederMarla breeds hard winter wheat for the Central and Southern Great Plains. She obtained her Ph.D. from Kansas State in 2006 and welcomed the chance to return to the Great Plains in 2010 with LCS. Marla’s research career has focused on wheat improvement, genetic resistance to insects and pathogens, and producing accurate genotypic data.

Brent Conrady, Research AssociateBrent manages aspects of performance trial planting and harvest opera-tions, along with agronomy trials for both wheat and canola. Brent grew up on a dryland wheat farm in northern Oklahoma and spent 10 years as a certifi ed crop advisor before joining LCS.

Dean Wilson, Research AssociateDean assists Marla in breeding wheat for the Central Plains. He targets the accumulation and analysis of data for yield and disease resistance. Prior to joining LCS, Dean assisted the late Dr. Jim Wilson of Trio Research.

Dr. Jim Peterson, Vice President of ResearchJim currently oversees all U.S. breeding operations. Prior to joining LCS, Jim spent 27 years in public sector wheat research, including 12 years as a professor of Wheat Breeding and Genetics at Oregon State University. Jim also served as Chair of the National Wheat Improvement Committee.

Frank Curtis, Chief Operating Offi cerFrank is our Chief Operating Offi cer and has worked for Group Limagrain for the past 34 years. Frank moved to the U.S. in 2010 to launch our company. Frank’s roles within the Group have included plant breeding, fi eld research, product development, senior management, seed sales and marketing.

Dr. Jim Wilson | 1930-2012Limagrain Cereal Seeds’ HRWW team is head-

quartered in Wichita, Kansas at the LCS Trio

Research Station — so named in recognition of

the contributions made by the late Jim Wilson.

LCS embraces the values important to Jim:

putting farmers fi rst by releasing only high

yielding, low-risk wheats. Jim accomplished this

by matching wheat types with their respective

areas of adaptation, having a diverse, multigenic

response to disease and avoiding the ‘one wheat

fi ts all’ mentality.

Outstanding Yield in Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma and TexasT158 is a medium-early maturity, high tillering Hard Red Winter Wheat

variety released in 2009. The defi ning characteristic of T158 is its proven

ability to produce very high yields in both dryland and irrigated conditions.

It has a very wide adaptation across the Central and High Plains.

Excellent tolerance to drought and heat stress, combined with the ability

to make grain and fi ll kernels under stress, make this a wise, low-risk

choice for western wheat producing areas. T158 has short, stiff straw,

resists shattering and covers the ground well in the fall. It is resistant to

the 2012 stripe rust race and has intermediate resistance to leaf rust.

Your Road to Profit Begins HereLCS Wizard is a medium maturity Hard Red Winter Wheat targeted for the

Central and Southern Plains and irrigated production in the High Plains.

It has exceptional straw strength to handle high fertilization strategies.

LCS Wizard is medium height with a medium coleoptile. Yield data from

LCS Wizard in 2012 and 2013 trials were superb across many varied envi-

ronments, proving its broad adaptation and yield stability. LCS Wizard is

late in producing a fi rst hollow stem, allowing it to be utilized as a dual-

purpose wheat in grazing situations. Tolerance to both Hessian fl y and

barley yellow dwarf virus are two key traits that not many products

currently on the market can offer. LCS Wizard is also tolerant to soil-borne

mosaic virus.

Almost as Good as a License to Print Money!LCS Mint is a medium height, medium maturity Hard Red Winter Wheat

variety released in 2012. The yield data on LCS Mint is outstanding in dryland

production zones. LCS Mint has a very striking dark green plant color and is

well adapted to the Central and High Plains. This variety is photoperiod sensi-

tive, meaning that it will vary its maturity year-to-year more than non-sen-

sitive varieties, as LCS Mint responds to variation in daylength. LCS Mint is

resistant to the 2012 stripe rust race and has excellent tolerance to acid soils,

along with exceptional milling and baking quality.

Excellent Yield, Solid Agronomics,A Sound Investment!T154 is a very high yielding variety with early maturity and excellent

resistance to soil-borne mosaic virus. It is tolerant of low pH soil and is an

excellent choice on acid soils. T154 holds its grain hardness in the more

humid, wetter environments of eastern Kansas. This line performs very

well in both irrigated and dryland conditions, especially in central Kansas.

Much like T153, it also has adult plant resistance to leaf rust and stripe

rust, making it a low-risk choice that yields. Adult plant resistance to

diseases allows the plant to become infected but fi ghts off the disease, not

allowing it to spread throughout the plant.

Early, Low-Risk PerformanceT153 is an ultra-early Hard Red Winter Wheat that heads out earlier than

most all other HRW wheats currently on the market. Acid soil tolerance and

good resistance to both soil-borne mosaic virus and fusarium head blight

(head scab) make this variety ideally suited for the central and eastern

regions of the Central and Southern Great Plains. T153 also has very nice

adult plant resistance to leaf rust and stripe rust. This characteristic means

the variety may be infected early on, but the rust lesions will not spread

further throughout the season.

Make Hay with T173For Grazing: Sow T173 early. It tends to have a prostrate growth habit

during tillering, but after crown is established, T173 will produce a dense

crop of leafy tillers ideal for winter grazing. As T173 is relatively late to

mature, it can be grazed for longer than most dual-purpose varieties.

For Hay: T173 is tall with long, thin straw and excellent leaves. Though the

heads are awnless, they are hard to thresh, and should not be taken for

grain. The thin straw and leafy nature of T173 ensures that it produces a

heavy crop of highly palatable forage.

For Silage: If a higher energy feed is required, with more starch and more

dry matter yield per acre, leave T173 in the fi eld until it reaches the ‘cheesy

ripe’ stage, then chop fi nely and ensile in a well compacted clamp.

THE FUTURE OF LCS HRWW GENETICS

Coming Soon to a Field Near You

After years of intensive selection and careful evaluation in replicated yield

trials by the breeder, the commercial team gets involved. We select the

very best of our advanced experimental varieties for expanded yield and

quality evaluations. At the same time, I begin planting seed purifi cation

and increase fi elds of these varieties to ensure there is an adequate supply

of seed available to our dealers as soon as we release the variety. We don’t

want to leave elite genetics sitting on the shelf.

Brad Erker, Product Development ManagerBrad oversees Breeder seed and Foundation seed production and contracting. LCS Quality Lab

LCS is committed to quality and meeting the needs of the milling and

baking industry. We have invested in a state-of-the-art quality lab to

produce data that will help our breeders make variety selections that

meet or exceed industry expectations. We test our variety candidates over

multiple locations and years to better predict performance and improve

end-use products.

Key parameters measured for Hard Red Winter Wheat are fl our yield,

mixing stability, loaf volume, crumb structure and color of bread. By test-

ing these parameters and others, the Fort Collins Quality Lab is used as a

screening tool by our breeders at different stages within their programs.

As they narrow down thousands of potential variety releases to one excep-

tional cultivar, end-use quality is a key factor, along with disease resistance

and agronomic performance.

Of all the technological advancements made in breeding and production

agriculture in recent years, changes in how we communicate are among

the most exciting to me. Information can be shared instantly between our

staff and any farmer in America via a cell phone or tablet; it's an incredibly

powerful tool. At LCS, we are fi nding new ways to use these technologies

to reach out to our seed dealers, their grower customers and anyone else

who loves wheat like we do. Through our website and social media

channels, we are able to provide critical and up-to-date information —

helping ensure you make the right variety decisions, and your varieties

perform and return value to your farm. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter,

and visit our website to fi nd out more about how we are improving agricul-

ture in the Central and Southern Great Plains.
