Welcome to the holiday season at the Penn Club. Our Clubhouse is decked out in all of its finery, cheer and good will be plentiful, and our facilities are all being used to their full potential. This is truly a time to be grateful for what we have, and to look ahead to all we can resolve to do. Your Club provides a wide array of opportunities to enrich your lives.

On December 7th we will open our doors for our annual Members’ Holiday Party. This is one of two complimentary events we offer to express our appreciation for all that our members do to make this one of the world’s leading clubs. I do hope you will make plans to join us for this great celebratory tradition. Good food, good drink and good company will abound. Over the years, this party has grown in popularity, and we are looking forward to seeing you on this special evening. Details are to be found in this issue of HapPENNings.

Have you planned your holiday event at the Penn Club yet? During this busy time of year, many of our members take advantage of our private dining areas to host that special holiday event. Whether it is a company party, celebration with friends, or family gathering, the Penn Club makes an ideal venue for your entertaining needs. Our spaces do tend to fill up quickly, but there is some availability at this time. Our catering staff will assist you in planning that special function, and will make it easy for you to relax and enjoy your evening.

Speaking of special events, please be advised that some of our larger private functions do take place in our Main Dining Room. On those nights when the Main Dining Room becomes unavailable, we make every effort to make

alternate arrangements for your formal dining needs. In order to avoid disappointment please check ahead with our Dining Room staff to make sure the Main Dining Room will be available for your reservation.

I am pleased to note that donations to our Penn Club Em-ployees Fund have been coming in at a steady rate. Since the Penn Club House Rules prohibit tipping, this is your annual opportunity to express your appreciation to the outstanding staff that make your Penn Club experience so special. If you have not already done so, I encourage you to consider making a donation to the Fund. Our staff deeply appreciates your thoughtful generosity.

For the twelfth year in a row, we will celebrate the great Scots poet Robert Burns at the Penn Club. This year’s Burns Supper is scheduled for Friday, January 27th. It will be a night of celebration, fine Scotch whiskey, outstanding fare (including the famous Haggis), poetic readings and reflec-tions, and many of the attendees (including yours truly) decked out in Highland finery. Over the years, this Supper has become one of the highlights of our Penn Club calendar. If you have not yet attended one of our Burns Suppers, you don't know what you are missing. We always draw a full crowd, and I do hope you will plan to be with us this year. Further details can be found within these pages.

As we look forward to the arrival of 2012, my staff and I would like to take this opportunity to wish your a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. We are truly excited to be a part of your Penn Club life at your home-away-from-home in New York.
