LOTION RECIPE:BLUSHING BODY BUTTER

• Glass Mixing Bowl - Large • Hand Mixer • Measuring Spoons • Microwave • Mixing Spoon • Plastic Droppers - 2

DIRECTIONS:

1. NOTE: If you are making these products for sale, good manufacturing practices recommend you wear a hairnet, gloves and a mask. we also recommend a clean apron.

2. Scoop out entire contents of 1 lb. jar of Cranberry Butter blend in a microwave safe bowl. Heat for about 30 seconds or until butter is slightly warm and soft.

3. Using a hand mixer, whip butter until it is fluffy.

4. Measure and add 0.25 oz. Safflower Oil, 2 Tbsp. Tapioca Starch-Pure, 3 ml. Vitamin E and 12 ml. Cashmere Glow Fragrance Oil.

5. Use a hand mixer to blend ingredients into the body butter.

6. Skip the following step if you do not want to add Pink Sparkle Mica Powder.

7. Measure 2 Tbsp. Pink Sparkle Mica Powder and lightly sprinkle into the bowl, adding 1 Tbsp. at a time. Do not dump the tablespoon of mica powder but gently sprinkle as the powder is very fine and will become airborne.

8. Carefully stir the body butter slightly to mix in the mica powder before using the hand mixer to finish blending.

9. Once the body butter has been completely blended, scoop product into jars. It is best to weigh the product out for each jar. Place the jar on your scale and tare to zero. Then add 8 oz. of body butter.

10. Repeat above steps to make remaining product. These ingredients are enough to make this recipe twice.

11. NOTE: The Cranberry Butter Blend has a naturally lumpy consistency. This will not affect its performance.

MP SOAP LOAF RECIPE:BED OF ROSES

DIRECTIONS:

1. NOTE: If you are making these products for sale, good manufacturing practices recommend you wear a hairnet, gloves and a mask. we also recommend a clean apron.2. Remove Goat Milk soap from 2 lb. plastic tray. weigh 20 oz. of soap and cut up into chunks. Place in large glass measuring cup. 3. Place in microwave and heat until all soap has melted. Remove and stir to be sure there are no soap pieces remaining.4. Add 30 drops of Matte woodland Green Liquid Pigment. Stir until fully blended in.5. Add 3 ml. of wild Rose Fragrance Oil and stir.6. Pour all of the soap into the loaf mold and let harden.7. weigh 2.5 oz. of Goat Milk soap. Place in a clear glass measuring cup. Place in microwave and heat until melted. 8. Add 0.5 ml. of wild Rose Fragrance Oil and stir.9. Pour the red soap into one of the Rectangle Soap Cups and let it harden.10. weigh 1.5 ounces of the Goat Milk soap. Place in glass measuring cup and heat until melted.11. Add 5 drops of Matte woodland Green Liquid Pigment and 0.5 ml. of wild Rose Fragrance Oil. Stir to blend in. 12. Pour green soap into the other Rectangle Soap Cup and let it harden.13. Once the green soap in the loaf mold has hardened, weigh 20 oz. of the Goat Milk soap. Cut up into chunks and heat in microwave until melted.

14. when melted, add 3 ml. of wild Rose Fragrance Oil and stir to blend in.15. Make sure the soap temperature is at or below 125°F. Spritz the green soap generously with rubbing alcohol.16. Pour the melted soap over the green and spritz top of soap with rubbing alcohol. There should be about 1/4” left at the top. Let soap completely harden.17. Unmold both soaps from the Rectangle Soap Cups. Using a vegetable peeler, create soap curls from both bars. Set soap curls aside. 18. Pinch one end of each of the green soap curls so that they all look like leaves. 19. Melt the remaining 4 ounces of Goat Milk soap. Spritz the top of the soap in the mold with rubbing alcohol. Pour soap over the top.20. Let soap start to slightly set up and then push the soap curls into the top of the soap. It is fine if it pushes the warm soap up and around the curls. This will give a nice look to the top of the loaf. 21. Let soap completely harden.22. when ready to unmold, gently pull sides away from the soap. Turn mold over and gently press on the bottom until you see the soap start to release. Carefully ease the soap out of the mold. 23. If available, use mitre box to cut soap into slices or hand slice soap. wrap and label accordingly.

DIRECTIONS:

1. NOTE: If you are making these products for sale, good manufacturing practices recommend you wear a hairnet, gloves and a mask. we also recommend a clean apron.2. weigh 1 oz. of white soap and place in plastic beaker. Add small amount of the Matte woodland Green soap color.3. Place in microwave and heat about 20 seconds or until soap and color have melted.4. Using a plastic dropper, pipe the colored soap into the leaf cavities for all 5 roses. Start with the middle cavity so the mold does not tip over. If the soap starts to harden, place back in microwave for a few seconds to get back to a liquid state.5. To keep soap from hardening in the dropper, place in hot water and squeeze up into dropper until ready to use again.6. Spritz soap with rubbing alcohol after piping into mold.7. Melt 4 oz. of white soap base. If striping soap petals, use the plastic droppers to fill in the edges of the petals.8. weigh 4 oz. of clear soap and place in glass measuring cup. Heat in microwave until melted.9. Add either some shavings from the Matte Americana Red Soap Color bar or the Pink Sparkle Mica Powder. Mix until color is incorporated.10. Mix colored soap with remaining melted white soap. when using Red Pigment, mixing the white and clear soap will brighten up the red matte color.11. Add 7 ml. or 1/2 Tablespoon of the Lola Fragrance Oil. Blend into melted soap base.12. Before pouring soap, check that soap temperature is at or below 125°. If soap is too hot, it will bleed into the white petal tips or the green leaves.13. Spritz generously with rubbing alcohol before pouring soap. This ensures that the soap previously poured will stick to the red or pink soap once it has set up.14. For ease of unmolding, once soap has set for about 10 minutes, place in refrigerator for about 30 minutes. This will make it easier to unmold the soap.15. After removing from refrigerator, let set on counter for a few minutes to warm up. Turn mold over and gently press on the bottom of each cavity to release the soap.16. when all 5 roses have been unmolded, if desired, sprinkle a little bit of Iridescent Sparkle Glitter over the top of each rose.17. Carefully wrap each soap in clear plastic wrap and place in a white organza bag.

DIRECTIONS:1. This project and these instructions have been written for someone who has experience making soap and knows the potential dangers due to working with sodium hydroxide. It will not outline safety methods of working with dangerous chemicals, it is simply a soap recipe for advanced soapmakers.2. Put on your protective gear. This is very important since you will be working with an extremely caustic base that can and will burn you if you touch it. Noxious fumes are also released from the exothermic reaction that occurs when you mix the sodium hydroxide with water3. wear a face mask or leave the vicinity quickly after stirring the sodium hydroxide into the water. If you get any lye on your skin just wash it off quickly with copious amounts of cool water4. In separate containers, measure by weight your water and your Lye.5. Gradually mix the Lye in water until the Lye Flakes are dissolved. Set aside in a safe place and allow to cool.6. Measure your Coconut Oil, Palm Oil, Olive Oil, Castor Oil, and Mango Butter. This will be the bowl you will stick blend in, so make sure it will be large enough.7. warm oils in microwave or over low heat until melted. Set aside to cool. 8. In two separate containers measure 3 scoops, 0.15 ml (Micro Size) of Matte Americana Red powder in one container and Neon Tutti Frutti dye in another and set aside.9. when both your oils and your lye water are about 125°F or below you are ready to mix. 10. with all of your safety equipment on (safety glasses, gloves, sleeves), and stick blender ready, pour your lye water into the oils. we recommend pouring down the shaft of the stick blender to try to avoid air bubbles.11. You are now ready to blend the soap. we stick blended until the soap reached a light trace, and then added our Fragrance Oil. Stir oils in by hand.12. Pour a small amount of soap batter in each container with pre-measured color. 13. Blend the container with Matte Americana Red powder in it. Mix by hand, and then briefly stick blend. Place cake pop silicone mold on a cookie sheet. This will give the mold stability should it need to be moved. 3. weigh 6 oz. of Basic Clear Soap. Cut up into chunks and place in a glass measuring cup. 4. Heat soap in microwave until the clear soap has melted. Remove and stir.5. Cut the Brown Oxide Soap Color cube into four pieces. Place one piece into the hot, melted soap. Stir to dissolve the color. Place back in microwave if some color has not totally dissolved.6. Add 1/4 teaspoon of Brown Sparkle Mica Powder and stir until completely blended in. 7. Add 3.5 ml. Chocolate Drizzle fragrance oil and stir to mix in. 8. Pour soap into cake pop mold, dividing between all 8 cavities. They should be filled about half way. 9. Let soap set up. 10. Once soap has hardened, carefully remove from mold and set aside. 11. A 2 lb. tray of clear soap should yield about 40 truffles, so recipe will need to be repeated 5 times. Or, you can continue making as many as you like.

12. Once all the truffles are made, you can make the drizzle for the top.13. Using two plastic beakers or small glass containers, melt 2 oz. of white soap in each. 14. To one of the beakers, add 2-3 drops of Stained Glass Santa Red color and mix. 15. Cover either a counter top or a cookie sheet with waxed paper. This will help with the cleanup after the drizzle is added to soap. Place chocolate truffles on top of waxed paper.16. Drizzle the color over each truffle, using one or both the white soap and the pink. If soap seems too thin when poured, let soap cool slightly and thicken to make pouring easier. 17. You can also drizzle some clear soap over the top then sprinkle either coarse grain sugar or coarse spa salt with color added, if desired. 18. we suggest placing 5 truffles in a clear cello bag. Add the 16 oz. container of Foaming Bath whip to the melted soap and stir. It will melt slightly with the heat of the soap. 5. Using a hand mixer, begin to whip product.6. Continue to mix until product thickens and looks like marshmallow cream. Turn off mixer.7. Adding 1 cup at a time, add 5 cups of sugar while continuing to mix. when all sugar has been mixed in, turn off mixer. 8. Take out half of the sugar scrub mixture and place in a second bowl. To this you will add .5 oz. of Vanilla Almond fragrance oil. with mixer on low, gently blend in.9. To other bowl of scrub, add 1/2 teaspoon of Brown Sparkle Mica Powder and mix on low to incorporate. Add more color if a darker shade is desired. 10. Add .5 oz. Chocolate Type fragrance oil and continue to mix. Add 1 additional cup of sugar to the chocolate scrub because the mica powder will thin out the product.11. For best results in scooping out product, let set overnight to thicken. It is not necessary to cover. It can still be scooped if unable to set overnight, but will be slightly softer to work with.12. Scoop out one chocolate and one vanilla scoop and add to each round cup. Continue until all 40 cups have been filled.13. In a small glass measuring cup, melt 5 oz. of clear soap in the microwave. Add enough drops of color until a nice cherry or strawberry color is achieved. 14. If making these cups ahead, drizzle the strawberry syrup (red soap) over each cup of “ice cream”. Then add sprinkles. If making with a class, or at a party, divide the liquid red soap into 4 beakers and let the children drizzle the syrup themselves. Then top with sprinkles.15. Once sundaes have all been made, place each cup into a cello bag and tie with ribbons. 16. Be sure to add a label to bags of what the product is and that it is not edible. Product can be used as a soap in the bath, or to wash up at the sink. The candy sprinkles will melt in the warm water.

The directions for this recipe will make 13 bath fizzies at a time. 3. Place 13 clamshells on a covered table or counter top in your work space.4. Measure 1 lb. of baking soda, 1/2 lb. of citric acid and 2 oz. kaolin clay. Place into a large glass mixing bowl and mix well with a wire whisk breaking up any clumps there might be. 5. If you prefer, you can use a sifter to get rid of any clumps of powder.6. Add .15ml. of Stained Glass Apple Red Powder and .15ml. of Neon Tutti Frutti and gently mix.7. Using a plastic dropper, drizzle 15 ml. of Pomegranate fragrance oil onto mixture. Do not put fragrance all in one area but drizzle all around. 8. Using a whisk or fork, mix well by breaking up lumps of fragrance oil.9. Once mixture is free of clumps and mixed thoroughly, begin to spray with rubbing alcohol. Using gloved hands, toss the mixture with one hand while spraying with the other.10. when mixture is just moist enough to stay together when pressed, it is ready to be molded. 11. NOTE: This step is easy to check by taking a tablespoon of the mixture and squeezing it in the hand. If it falls apart, then more alcohol needs to be sprayed on the mixture. Make sure gloves are worn for this part of the recipe.12. Once the mixture is the correct consistency, press a small amount firmly into the bottom of the first clamshell. Take a mini valentine duck and place in the middle of the heart, laying on its side. 13. Then quickly fill the rest of the cavity with the bath fizzy mixture, pressing firmly so it is tightly packed. 14. If mixture starts to dry, spritz more alcohol as needed. If mixture starts to fizz, then you have spritzed too much and this portion will need to be discarded. 15. Continue with remaining mixture until all 13 have been made. Set these aside to harden up. 16. If desired, make remaining 13 hearts following steps above. 17. Let bath fizzies harden for about 2 hours. Then, place back on the clamshell. 18. If desired, you can print cute labels to stick on the back. Or have your child decorate them with Valentine stickers. These are now ready to hand out to friends and classmates for Valentine’s Day.

• 7 oz. Distilled water• 3.8 oz. Sodium Hydroxide• 2.8 oz. Sweet Almond Oil• 7 oz. Coconut Oil• 1.4 oz. Castor Oil• 2.8 oz. Shea Butter• 8.4 oz. Rice Bran Oil• 5.6 oz. Sunflower Oil (high oleic)• 2 Tbsp. water Dispersible Titanium Dioxide (mixed with • 1 oz. distilled water)• 1.3 oz. Crafters Choice white Tea Fragrance Oil• Heart Shaped Soap Embeds (pink and red)• Glitter (optional)• wSP silicone loaf mold

DIRECTIONS:

Begin by making pink and/or red heart-shaped soap embeds made out of cold process or melt and pour soap. These can be made by pouring into a silicone loaf or plastic tray and then cutting with cookie cutters. Or pour into a miniature heart-shaped silicone mold. Unmold soap embeds and set aside.Add lye to water and stir until dissolved. Let cool. Melt coconut and shea, then add room temperature oils.

At desired temperature for oils and water (between room temperature and 110F recommended), add lye solution to oils and bring to light trace. Stir in titanium dioxide mixture and pulsate the stickblender to make sure it is well dispersed and incorporated. Put stickblender aside and stir in fragrance oil. Pour into loaf mold, leaving an inch or two depth in mold to account for displacement of soap embeds. After soap in mold sets up (about 5 minutes), begin pushing heart embeds into the soap loaf. Finish by sprinkling a touch of glitter on top of the soap loaf.

Let sit overnight covered with plastic wrap to prevent soda ash. Release and unmold. Cut into bars. Cure for 4 weeks before use.

DIRECTIONS:

1. Prepare your lye water first by measuring out the distilled water in a pitcher or large glass pyrex measuring cup. weigh out the lye and slowly pour the lye into the water stirring until it has completely dissolved. Set aside.

2. weigh out all of the soapmaking oils and combine in a stainless steel pot on the stove. Heat over medium heat until all the ingredients have melted then remove from heat and set aside.

3. Prepare your additional ingredients by weighing out the silk, clay and fragrance oil into separate containers.

4. Once the lye-water and soapmaking oils have cooled to about 100 - 115 degrees F, you’re ready to make soap. Start by adding the silk, clay and fragrance oil to the soapmaking oils. Mix with an immersion hand blender until all ingredients are thoroughly incorporated.

5. Add the lye water to the oils and mix until you reach trace.

6. Place the mold onto a cutting board for easy transport. Then, once your soap reaches trace pour the soap into the clean silicone mold, evenly filling each cavity. Next cover the top of the mold with plastic food wrap followed by a towel to insulate the soap.

7. After the 24 hour insulation period, remove the towel and cling wrap from the mold. However, wait an additional one to two days before unmolding the soaps to ensure they come out smoothly without leaving any soap inside the corners of the mold.

8. Allow to cure for three to six weeks, then wrap and label as desired.Notes: You can substitute another fragrance oil for the one used in this recipe, however, I highly recommend using a fragrance oil that does not accelerate trace since you need the soap to pour evenly into the mold without having gaps or air spaces. If you’d like to use an essential oil in lieu of a fragrance oil, use .13 oz. to .41 oz. of essential oil of your choice.

DIRECTIONS:

Infuse distilled water with rose or other teabags. After infusing, weigh out 6.5 oz. and chill. Add lye to water and stir until dissolved. Let cool. Once cool, stir in the optional sodium lactate.Melt coconut, murumuru and shea, then add room temperature oils. Add clay to oils and stir/stickblend until well incorporated and lumps are gone.

At desired temperature for oils and water (between room temperature and 110F recommended), add lye solution to oils and bring to light trace. Put stickblender aside and stir in fragrance oil. Pour into mold. Sprinkle on crushed rose petals if desired.

when you’re running a small business, it’s common to look for cost-cutting opportunities, but there are some circumstances where spending money upfront to ensure that you’re not committing even costlier errors down the road is worth the investment. Here are four common and potentially costly errors small business make.

1. MISUNDERSTANDING TAx LAWS. Attorney Christopher Dziak says that despite their complexity, business owners must all understand the taxes they will beresponsible for (including sales and payroll), particularly if you’ve hired additional help. Likewise, if you have done or plan to do business any independent contractors, subcontractors, and/or professional services providers (including lawyers and accountants) whom you’ll pay more than $600 to in one tax year, ensure you have signed w-9 forms on file, and that you’re prepared to issue the required 1099-MISC forms to them at tax time. (Due by the end of January in 2014). Likewise, if your own salary has increased significantly in the last year, you have until January 15, 2014 to make your final estimated 2013 tax payment. Confirm that you have in fact paid the correct amount of estimated tax for the year; increase it if needed to avoid underpayment penalties.

2. CHOOSING THE WRONG BUSINESS STRUCTURE (OR NONE AT ALL). Nellie Ascot, small business expert and

founder of CorpNet says entrepreneurs commonly wait too long to incorporate, assuming that they are “too small” to have the need. Another common error? Choosing the wrong business structure when they do form a legal business entity. “Some of the most popular business structures include the LLC, S Corporation and C Corporation—but they all have very distinctive features. Picking the right option is important,” says Ascot. In the case of partners who share ownership in a business, for example, she says that they may assume an S Corporation is the best choice--only to later realize they must share in the income and direct proportion to their ownership when it comes to tax reporting. In this case, forming an LLC would give the partners more flexibility in dividing the profits. 3. NOT CARRYING SUFFICIENT INSURANCE. Whether you operate your business out of a storefront or online, make sure you carry proper insurance coverage. Las Vegas-based attorney Jason Lieber says that at minimum, all business owners should have liability insurance to protect against claims for damages (in both legitimate cases and frivolous lawsuits). “Protection against claims is important because lawsuits with no merit are very common. An insurance carrier will hire and pay for an attorney to defend the claim, saving the policyholder thousands of dollars” says Lieber.

4. USING SOMEONE ELSE’S CREATION WITHOUT PERMISSION. You might be tempted to supplement your own marketing and content strategy by leveraging the work of others when you’re a small business on a budget, but as small business advisor Linda Pophal explains, this common practice is in direct violation of copyright laws, and can result in hefty fees, and possibly, costly legal action. “This might include creating a radio (or video spot) that incorporates music you do not have the rights to, using images on your web site or in email marketing that you do not have the rights to use, posting information on your web site and/or including content in a blog post or other form of communication that you did not get permission to republish.” Ignorance is not a defense in the case of creative permissions and usage rights. Always obtain written permission by the creator and/or copyright holder first. If you can’t get it—don’t publish!

STRUCTURE DEVELOPMENTIf you can’t easily outline what you’re going to say, take a step back and rethink how you’ve framed the presentation. There should be a logical sequence of important points that can be connected like dots. when you’re done, you want a clear picture firmly implanted in the mind of the listener of what you’re advocating and your conclusions.

To that end, limit the number of major points to just a few that are easily explained in the time allotted. Use sub-points to further develop the concepts envisioned by the major points. If you have too many points, you’ll eventually lose your audience. They won’t be able to grasp and comprehend the

DELIVERYYou’ve got an important message for your audience, and how you transmit that message makes all the difference. Show your personality and imagine you’re taking the audience along on a journey. You’re their guide, and you plan to make a few critical stops along the way to hammer home important points. By the end of the journey, your audience needs to appreciate the passion you’ve invested in the subject.

Use real-world examples to illustrate points that may be difficult to explain in theory. Be straightforward and make direct eye contact throughout the presentation. That sends a powerful message that you’re serious and fully committed. A conversational tone usually works best, and it helps if you can interact with the audience and get them connected to your objectives. Talk to them, not at them, and let them draw their own conclusions.

BOTTOM LINEQuality is everything. whether you’re talking to one person or a large group,

entire message at one sitting.If you can adapt your presentation to storytelling, that’s an effective way of fully engaging your audience. A good story will capture and hold their attention, especially if it’s unlike any story they’ve heard before. Create a strong rapport and you’ve got them hooked.

OPTIMIzE INFORMATION MIxThere’s nothing worse than attending a briefing and being bombarded with charts, graphs, columns of numbers, and hundreds of words on each slide. You’ll lose your audience quickly if you overwhelm them with information overload. It’s important to devise the right mix of visuals, data, and narrative. This will depend on the subject matter and the specific audience, so use your best judgment to gauge the ingredients you need to include. The cardinal rule is to keep it simple and as straightforward as possible.

Use PowerPoint as a roadmap, not as a crutch. If you’re standing there reading the slides, why are you needed? You might as well hand copies to the audience and let them read them on their own time. Keep the amount of data on the slides to an absolute minimum, and talk to the slides rather than read from them. Use the slides to focus attention on a specific point, and guide you and the audience to the next point. Keep the word count down to what they can read and digest very quickly.

REHEARSEDepending on your experience level, you might find it useful to do a dry run of your presentation. If you can’t find anyone to listen, do it to a pretend audience. It will force you to organize your thought process and make your introduction crisp. Getting started is usually the most difficult part, so be prepared to nail the first few minutes. Once you get going, the transitions will flow more naturally and your knowledge of the subject matter will emerge more smoothly.


QUALITY IS EVERYTHING

it’s all about substance, conviction and a compelling narrative. Don’t forget that some well-placed humor always helps because it keeps the audience alert, and provides a momentary diversion from the primary subject.

You’ve listened to enough people to know what does and doesn’t work when you’re on the receiving end. Apply that knowledge and experience to how you approach your own audience. Differentiate yourself in a way that makes you more interesting and memorable. Branding is far more than just a time-honored marketing technique. Sell yourself and your products won’t be far behind.

Ah, it’s February. Hearts, flowers, and sentiments of love are in the air! It’s a wonderful time to pause and contemplate those who are near and dear to your heart and all they bring into your life.

who is the first person you think of as Valentine’s Day approaches? Your mate and children are possibly the most likely recipients for those little boxes of chocolate goodies and cute cards bearing sweet words of love and appreciation. But let me ask you this: when was the last time you did something really, really nice for yourself?

The calendar is filled with constant reminders to show appreciation to the important people in our lives, but there isn’t a single day on the calendar that reminds us to turn our love and appreciation inward. where is National Self-Love Day anyway? I think it would do us good to celebrate ourselves for a change, don’t you?

Some people believe that taking care of and treating themselves with the same kindness and generosity that they treat others is self-indulgent. Some simply don’t want to take the time learn new habits and place attention on their own needs and desires. In my experience as a coach, these folks are typically overworked, unhappy, and exhausted. Many of them are nowhere near the level of success that they wish to achieve and some are even suffering miserably. All because the love that they hold in their hearts is rarely directed inwardly.

But this can change with a shift in mindset and a newfound appreciation of your special qualities, gifts, and spirit. I’ve seen people turn their lives and businesses around simply by raising their self-awareness and acting on the desires that they previously deemed as selfish and indulgent. I can promise that as you grow to appreciate and honor yourself, it will be reflected in the world around you: in your business, relationships, and even in your finances.

So what are the signs that you’re not showing yourself enough love and appreciation? Here are some of the most common behaviors that I witness in someone who lacks self love. I’ve also included some mindset tips on how to turn that behavior around. I suggest journaling about the steps you take, how it feels, and what you notice as time goes by. The act of journaling will raise your awareness and help you to see where you need to improve and how far you’ve come. Journaling is yet another act of self love!

NEGATIVE SELF-TALK.when you make a mistake, get clumsy, or say something that you regret how do you react? Do you call yourself names, throw fits of anger, blame others? This is one sure sign of self-loathing rather than self-love.

Instead: Simply observe; as though you are 5000 feet above the situation. Oftentimes we respond negatively because we are overwhelmed and preoccupied. If you begin to lose patience with yourself take a deep breath and think about how you would treat someone you love when they make the same mistake. Can you treat yourself in the same way? with practice you can.

STAYING TOO BUSY.when I have a coaching client who cites a lack of time for their inability to rest and play I can usually prove them wrong. People who don’t appreciate themselves often feel guilty for taking time to self-nurture, relax, and play. They unconsciously busy themselves with menial tasks instead. Do you really need to refill the paperclips and go over that expense report for the third time today?

Instead: Be honest with yourself about how you’re spending your time and what you may be avoiding. Then make a list of things you would like to do once you give yourself permission to pay attention to your own needs and desires. If you have a go to list you won’t have to give it any thought and may not talk yourself out of something that puts you in the spotlight. Indulge a little, you might just get used to it!

PUTTING EVERYONE ELSE FIRST.The airlines say it the best: “Please apply your own air mask before assisting young children and those around you.” In other words, what good are you to others if you’re dead? Taking care of yourself is yet another expression of love. when you care enough about yourself it tells those around you that you love them enough to stick around. This is not a selfish act! Ironically, most people who bow to the needs of others do it to satisfy their own needs, not those of everyone else. If you were to ask your spouse, parent, friend, and maybe even your children what their expectations of you are, I’m certain that their thoughts would differ from yours quite a bit.

Instead: You’ve made a list of things that are important to you; activities that you can do just for yourself. Now determine your non-negotiables: things like exercise, proper nutrition, alone time, a monthly massage, a night out with the girls or guys. Now schedule those things on your calendar. These are dates with yourself that can no sooner be cancelled than an important client meeting. As you become healthier, more balanced, and acknowledge your own deserving those around you will appreciate you all the more!

There are over 100 species of roses. They form a group of plants that can be shrubs or climbing plants with stems that are often barbed with thorns. [1] The fruit of the rose is a berry-like structure called a rose hip.

In distilled forms, roses have been included in cosmetics, medicines and therapeutic treatments for centuries. The essential oil extracted from rose petals has antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties, making it ideal to topically treat a host of ailments including abrasions, burns and skin conditions. [2]

There are generally two species of roses that are used in skin care: rosa damascena and rosa centifola. Rosa damascena, often from Bulgaria, has a deep, potent scent; Rosa centifola, known as the cabbage rose, has a lighter, clean and sweet scent. Both are valued for their pure essential oils, derived from the rose flowers. It takes tens of thousands of rose blossoms, picked at precisely the right time, to yield a single ounce of rose essential oil. This makes rose oil one of the most expensive essential oils on the market. [3]

The natural oils found in roses help lock moisture into the skin, which helps keep skin feeling smooth. Rose is especially beneficial for those with sensitive skin because the sugars in its petals provide a soothing sensation. Naturally antibacterial rose essential oil can help acne and acne-

prone skin. Combined with its cleansing properties, rose makes an ideal ingredient in face washes and cleansers.

Rose water is a by-product of the production of rose oil for use in perfume. As a natural astringent, rose helps tighten pores and restores suppleness to the complexion. Unlike conventional alcohol-based toners, rose water leaves skin feeling hydrated not dried out. Substituting rose water for all or part of the water phase in cosmetic formulations is a relatively inexpensive way to add the benefits of rose to a cosmetic product. [4]

Rose hips (the flowers which have swollen to seed) are an excellent source of vitamins A, B3, C, D and E. They also contain bioflavonoids, citric acid, flavonoids, fructose, malic acid, tannins and zinc. Since rose hips and rose hip oil contain high amounts of the antioxidant vitamin C, they are often used in products geared towards anti-aging. This important vitamin can help protect skin cells from damage, such as overexposure to sun. [5]

In fact, rose petals are a staple in Ayurvedic medicine to detoxify and calm. while this characteristic doesn’t directly add beauty benefits, it gives rose-scented products an added enhancement.Rose is suitable for all skin types, but it is especially valuable for dry, sensitive or aging skin types. It has a tonic and astringent effect on the capillaries just below the skin surface, which makes it especially useful in diminishing the redness caused by enlarged capillaries. It is easy to add value and increase the level of luxuriousness in your sensitive skin and anti-aging formulas by adding rose and its by-products to your ingredients list.
