Chairlady of The Devon & Cornwall Centre

2019/20 Dear Members. Well this is the last leg of my Chairmans role, over the 3-year term in office. Octobers AGM was of mixed emotions, but a good result turned out in the end. Thank you, to everyone who came and supported the stewards, it was lovely to see you all. I would like to say that my good cause raised a lot of money, over £3000 for Adults with Learning disabilities. On receiving the cheque, the Team Manager, said thank you and was thrilled with what they could purchase for the day centre, their Christmas party was booked, theatre ticket obtained for panto season, drawing equipment renewed & they’re looking into Ipads at the day centre to use. Exciting times ahead for them. Dave and I have attended many rallies throughout the past year and are hoping to attend the same amount rallies this year and we will try and catch up with as many members & friends as we can, so watch this space. Again, we are running with a small committee, but I like compact and bijou. Myself and my committee can only do the best we can, but we can promise we have the centre at heart. I would like to say thank you to our outgoing committee members for all the help I received over the past year, and I wish you all the best for the future. To all the stewards , assistant stewards, and again fellow helpers, without you our centre wouldn’t run, so a big thank you from myself and the committee, here’s to happy rallying !! Advice for First Time Ralliers

Firstly, choose the rally, then send a completed booking form and deposit to

the Rally Steward whose name appears with the rally details. Give at least

ten days’ notice (holiday rallies require more notice) when booking; the

Steward will not acknowledge your booking unless the rally is full. If you

require confirmation of your booking please request this and enclose a

stamped addressed envelope with your booking slip.

On some rallies you may need blocks and plank or a wedge (called a 'Prout'

in our Centre) to level your caravan, your own toilet facilities and a

container to fill the reservoir (toilets must never be taken to the drinking

water tap), means of taking your dry rubbish home, drinking water

container and filler pipe and a waste water container.

Before you set off check the site directions against a map. When you get

near to the venue you will find rally signs to help you. These are yellow

arrows, with D & C in black. Follow these to the site. When arriving on the

site please keep to 5 m.p.h, there may be children running around. Stop at

the Stewards caravan, which will be marked with a sign and let them know

that it is your first rally. The Steward will give you an envelope, which

contains details of the cost of the rally, a programme of events and a plaque

if requested. The plaque is a small plastic memento of attending the rally.

Please pay the Steward the money , unless you are attending a prepaid rally

and then they will assist you with pitching your caravan.

The Steward will inform you of water, waste water and chemical toilet emp-

tying facilities that are available. They will also tell you of any other infor-

mation pertaining to the rally. Do not feel obliged to participate in any

events that are being organised, your wishes will be respected.

REMEMBER: We were all new once and appreciate how apprehensive you

are feeling.

Directions: Leave the M5 at junction 27, follow the A361 towards Tiverton. Stay on the A361 for about 7 miles until the roundabout and follow the signs for the B3137 towards Witheridge. Go straight over the next roundabout and then at the Exe Valley Leisure Centre turn right at the roundabout. Continue past the supermarket and the hospital. Immediately after crossing the river, turn right at the roundabout. Take the second road on the left hand side, a long climb uphill, accurately called "Long Drag". Stay on this road (B3137) for about 9 miles. We are on the right hand side a mile after you leave the village of Nomansland. Programme: Take part in feeding the farm animals and enjoy farm life , you can watch the cows being milked in the morning and evening and help feed them if you’d like to. There are usually calves to feed and occasionally tame lambs that need to be bottle fed! You can also join in the chicken feeding and egg collection with John or Jo at set times during the day.
