REGIONAL ASSESSMENTS: (S//REL MCFI)

SOUTHERN IRAQ: With the Bridge on MSR Tampa closed until June ASR Circle will become more dangerous. Expect convoy harassment and criminal activity.

BAGHDAD: Craters caused by IED’s have restricted movement on ASR Sword. Check points 24-28 on MSR Tampa south of Baghdad have seen an increase in IED activity. Attack on Abu Ghurayb prison near ASR Sword/MSR Mobile intersection.

CENTRAL IRAQ: There will be an increase in civilians traveling on foot on ASR Jackson and ASR Miami due to their religious pilgrimage. Salman Pak is becoming more of a threat, ASR Detroit will become more dangerous because insurgents are becoming more aggressive in attacking convoys in the area with SAF and multiple IED’s.

NORTHERN IRAQ: Samarra, Mosul, Tikrit, and Kirkuk continue to be the focal points of insurgent attacks. Kurdish political groups were not happy about the election results and have been pushing for a separatist movement.

• EXPECT THE INSURGENTS TO ATTACK WITH SMALL ARMS, RPG'S, GRENADES, AND MORTARS.  THE INSURGENTS WOULD ALSO LIKE TO USE VEHICLES TO CONSTRUCT VBIEDS.

Current enemy TTP’s

• Booby trapping dead bodies • Suicide bombers with ball bearing filled vests.• Using road crews to emplace IEDs, poss along major routes used by MNF.• Rocket attacks including 57mm, 107mm, and 122mm improvised firings. • AIF utilizing vehicles as mobile caches to avoid MNF C&S/Raids and possibly to establish pre-arranged

munitions and weapons for planned operations.• AIF increasingly using complex attacks against MNF incorporating various methods of attack.• AIF resorting to drive-by shooting, sniper attacks and use SAF suppressors to conceal flash-to-bang noise

and decrease delectability.• AIF using concrete encased IEDs to blend in with natural surroundings.• Rapid emplacement of firing mechanisms into IEDs IOT allow the IED to be in place while unarmed.• Use of multiple IEDs placed in the same vicinity designed to be detonated simultaneously or separately to

attack convoys based on estimated spacing intervals between CF vehicles.• Use of command wire detonated mobile rocket platforms in the form of donkey carts. The rockets are being

stored on top of and below the cart.• Insurgents continuing to target specially trained personnel (EOD) with stacked IEDs, secondary explosions, or

SAF.• Distribution of DVDs and video-CDs of beheadings to both recruit and threaten the Mosul populace.• Using part of the Warlock antenna (perhaps other military equipment) as an IED. The AIF has taken a piece

of the Warlock antenna and attached it to the explosive which is buried. The two are attached with wire and when a soldier picks up the equipment the wires detonate the explosive.

• VBIED attacks on camps followed by mortar fire and small arms fire.• General increase in VBIED activity in the last 30 days.
