Pierre Haimard (Hamard) – Merchant born in 1674 at Du Mesny in the Reims, son of Étienne Haimard

and Martine Hurauilt. Arrival at Nouvelle-France in 1690. The year after he was active as a merchant

in city of Québec. In 1707 was granted a seigniory at Paspébiac and in 1719 a second seigniory at

Mont-Louis in the Lower St. Lawrence region. He was associated, somehow, with some of the leading

families of the small colony, among them the Jolliet, Aubert de La Chesnaye and Gobin. Marriage in

1698 with Louise Guillot. Death in Québec (city) in 1724.

François Havy – Merchant in Rouen born in 1709 in the pays de Caux. France. He was present in

Nouvelle France through the Compagnie de Dugard de Rouen from 1730 to 1755. During his stay at

Québec, Havy was associated with 13 different trading companies. A few of those were based at Le

Havre in the Seine-Maritime. Death in 1766 in Bordeaux in the Gironde.

François Hazeur – Merchant, bourgeois, fur trader born in 1646 in Brouage in the Seine-Maritime, the

son of François Hazeur and Marie Proust. Arrival in Nouvelle-France in 1669 with his brother Léonard.

In 1672, marriage with Anne Soumande, daughter of Pierre Soumande, also a merchant. Partner with

Charles Aubert de La Chesnaye in the founding of the Compagnie du Nord, a fur trading group

operating in the Saguenay region. Was also associated with the Grignon, Gaigneur trading families of

La Rochelle and with Guillaume Jung of Bordeaux. Marriage in 1696 with Élisabeth Barbe. Death in

Québec (city) in 1703

Pierre-André Hèbre de Saint-Clément – Merchant at Rochefort in the Aunis, son of François Hèbre

and Jeanne Imbert. Born in 1727. From 1745 to 1759, Hèbre was the owner of various ships bound for

Nouvelle France from the port of La Rochelle. He died in 1805 in Tonnay-Charente in the Charente-

Maritime.


Étienne Heguy – Merchant who traded in Louisbourg from 1733 to 1756. It seems that Heguy came

from the Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the Bayonne region. His full name was most likely Étienne Heguy

d’Ixassou, a Basque from the Pays Basque of France.

Antoine Héron – Ship owner, merchant, financier at La Rochelle. With 14 sailing ships, he financed

expeditions to Nouvelle France on numerous occasions from 1680 to 1696. From 1686 to 1688, he

would personally visit Acadie and from 1686 to 1689 he was also present in Québec (city)

Jacques Le Ber – Merchant, seigneur, born in 1633 at Pistre in the region of Rouen in the Seine-

1725 to 1752. He appears to have resided in Paris through-out most years of his life.

Thomas Lee – Merchant from Ireland whose parents James Lee and Anne Quinn had settled in

Bordeaux in the 1720s or thereabouts. Born in 1735 in Bordeaux, Thomas Lee would settle in

Nouvelle France in 1757. In 1760, he would marry in Sainte-Foy, Québec Catherine Langlois. Died in




Jean Lefebvre (Lefèvre) – Merchant with the Compagnie de Dugard de Rouen with a presence in

Nouvelle France from 1732 to 1755. Was associated with François Havy. Formed a company which

traded in the fur sector at the King’s Post, the latter a vast territory on the North Shore of the St.

Lawrence River from about the Saguenay River to the Labrador border. From 1719 to 1740, with his

three sons, he operated fishing stations in Bay of Chaleur, Bay of Gaspé and along the northern tip of

the Gaspé Peninsula at Forillon. During the winter months, the Lefebvres operated from the port of

Louisbourg.

Pierre Revol (Revot) – Merchant in Québec (city) born in the Dauphiné. Was present in Nouvelle

France in 1739. Was an associate with the Dumas family in addition to Grasset de Saint-Sauveur.

Prior to 1758 he resided at Louisbourg. In 1765, in a partnership with Joseph Roy (Le Roy) of

Beaumont, near Lévis, who operated a fur trading and fishery post on the coast of Labrador and

on the coast of Gaspé. He died in 1798 during the return trip from Louisbourg to France.

It does not appear that he actually resided at Québec (city). Two other Thevenin merchants, Lamothe

Thevenin and Pierre Thevenin at Bordeaux, sent ships to Nouvelle-France in the 1660s and beyond.







Hippolyte Thibierge – Merchant, master tanner in Québec city from about 1668 to 1700 born in 1629

at Blois in the Loir-et-Cher, son of Étienne Thibierge and Magdeleine Chaillou. In 1653 in Blois,

marriage with Renée Hervet (Herrvé). Arrival at Nouvelle-France in 1662. Their son Étienne appears

to have taken over the trading endeavours of his father after 1700 and perhaps up to 1740. Death of

Hippolyte in 1700 in Île-d’Orléans

Death in 1676 in same Québec (city). He was a close friend of Pierre Boucher, Governor of Trois-

Rivières and both were trading for furs with First Nations of the region.Toussaint Toupin had two sons,

Jean and François and it does appear that they continued the trading ventures of the father.

born in 1640 in Igé in the Perche. Arrived at Nouvelle-France with his family in 1646 and settled at

Neuville and a few years later at Trois-Rivières. In 1663 at Cap-de-la-Madeleinne, marriage with

Catherine Lefebvre. Death at Batiscan in 1706


Eustache Trottier Desrivières Beaubien – A trader from a family that had been in the fur trade sector

since the 17th century. Son of Eustache Trottier Desrivières Beaubien and Marguerite Mailhot. Born in

1761 at Varennes. Died in 1816.

Pierre Trottier Desauniers – Son - Merchant also referred to as Antoine-Pierre Trottier dit Desauniers

born at Montréal in 1700, son of Pierre Trottier Desauniers and Catherine Charest. The father was

also a merchant in Trois-Rivières and Montréal. In 1723, Pierre, the son married Marguerite Chéron.

In 1733 he was assigned rights to the large fishing and hunting region with the name of Domaine

d’Occident. In 1732 he formed a trading partnership with François Martel de Brouage. In 1747 he

moved to Bordeaux in France, death after 1755.

Montréal and Bordeaux who traded from the 1730s to the 1750s with merchants in various cities on

the Atlantic coasts. Born in Montréal in 1712, son of Pierre Trottier Desauuniers and Catherine

Charest. In 1747, he would marry Marie- Thomas Fleury, daughter Joseph de Fleury de La

Gorgentière. Death in 1777 in Montréal.

Cap Breton. In 1630 he was promoted to director of the Compagnie de la Nouvelle France and in

Baptiste Le Beau of La Rochelle. Born about 1641 at Ars-en-Ré in the Charente-Maritime, son of

René Turpin and Marie Robin. Marriage at Ars-en-Ré with Catherine Delor in 1661. Arrival in

Nouvelle-France in 1666. Death about 1709 in Québec.






Antoine-Charles Turpin – Born in Paris in 1710. Arrived at Nouvelle France in 1744, returned to

France in 1760. Son of Pierre-Guillaume Turpin and Anne Poteau. In 1744, marriage with Marie-

Josephe Bailly. She was most likely a member of the Bailly families of merchants and traders. Turpin

died in Paris in 1766.






David Turpin – Merchant in Québec (city) in the 1740s time period with the Compagnie Le Vieux de

Rouen.

Antoine Van Der Hurst – Dutch merchant born in Le Havre who had moved to Rouen in the 1660s

and appears to have traded with Jean-Baptiste Legendre, Noël Cossart and Pierre Tranchepain. Le

Gendre was active with ships sent to Québec (city) in the second half of the 17th century



Abel Vernhès – Merchant in Bordeaux born in Montauban in the Tarn-et-Garonne in 1684. Was

associated with Charles Raymond, who had sent numerous ships to Nouvelle France in the 1730-

1740 time period.




Jean-Baptiste Veyssière – Merchant in La Rochelle born in 1693 in Limoges. Was associated with

Jean-Mathieu Mounier in Québec (city). In 1753 alone, Veyssière had sent 20 different shipments of

various types of merchandise (ships). He died in 1753.

Viennay-Pachot and Laurence Gay. Married Jeanne Arramy in 1655 in La Rochelle. Arrived at

Nouvelle France in 1679. Died in Québec (city) in 1698. Was one of the port-city of Québec’s leading

merchant in the 1680-1690s.







François Viennay-Pachot – Son - Merchant born in 1658 in the Isère, son of François Vienney-Pachot

and Jeanne Arramy. Arrived in Nouvelle France in 1679. Married Marianne Gaigneur at La Rochelle in
