the Science and Tech-
nology syllabus our
immersive program of
teaching and learning
allows our students to
gain essential literacy
and numeracy skills,
it also enables the
students to gain deep
knowledge into
engaging scientific
themes and topics.
This term we’re
focusing on the
‘physical world’ of
forces including
motion, gravity, mag-
netism and electricity.
This week the stu-
dents designed and
created some amazing
marble runs, examin-
ing movement. Mrs
Rayner led the stu-
dents through a series
of experiments study-
ing gravity and Toby
has started designing
a 3D maze using
computer aided de-
sign and our school’s
3D printer.
What a great start to
the topic!
READING RULES
Our awesome school
reading challenge has
certainly sparked
reading at home!
Large and small
books, picture books
and chapter books are
all being read with
the total number of
pages recorded add-
ing to our combined
school tally.
So far this term a
shared total of over
FOUR THOUSAND
pages have been read
by all of the students!
What an amazing re-
sult in only the first
three weeks, well
done to all of the
children who are
bringing in their
reading records
signed by parents.
We’ll be celebrating
our reading challenge
later in the term with
some special book
vouchers for the
children to spend.
Keep up the great
reading kids.

School Achievement
Award
Being awarded the
Secretary’s Award for
School Achievement
is incredible recogni-
tion for our Hill End
Public School. The
award recognises that
we have created an
incredible learning
environment for all of
our students that en-
gages students and
sparks their imagina-
tions and thinking
processes. Based on
Dear parents/carers,
we’d love some
photos of your
children reading at
home. You can email
them through to the
address on the back.
Using My Strengths
Senior students had to
choose 2 strengths from
a word bank. They then
had to think about some
of their strengths and
how they could use
them to help others.
Strength ~ Creative
At home - I can make
things for my younger
siblings so they can join
in the game.
Strength ~ Mechanical
At school – I can do
STEM projects and
show people them. It
will make them want to
do it when they get
older. Toby - Year 5
Strength ~ Creative
At home - it makes
people happy at home
and fun.
Strength ~ Artistic
At school I convince
them to do more art.
Beth - Year 4
Infants Recounts
On Monday I was feel-
ing sick. I had a head-
ache. After I had my
lunch, I went outside to
run away from the
dogs. My favourite
thing was running away
from the dogs
Akadia - Year 1
On the weekend I
played with my Lego.
We went to Mr
Shanahan’s funeral.
We said some prayers
for him. We ate dinner.
My favourite thing was
playing with Lego.
Eddie - Year 1
On the weekend I was
tailing lambs. Pop and I
went on the buggy to
check the cows. We fed
the rams. We ate
dinner. My favourite
thing was tailing lambs.
Hunter - Year 1
I helped with the rams.
My pet ram was
naughty and charged
me. There were three
lots of rams. Lucky we
had a good dog. My
favourite thing was
helping with the rams.
Hudson - Kindy
We played on iPads at
Mums. We have a clock
that shows night and
day. We go to sleep
quickly because we are
tired. I really like going
to Mums. My favourite
thing was being at
Mums.

October is Australia’s
walking month!
With the winter months
behind us, it is a great
time to get outside, join
up with family and
friends, and go for a walk.
October is beautiful in
Australia, the weather is
breaking out of winter’s
cold and we can see new
leaves on the trees and
feel the sunlight on our
skin. We learn to walk
when we are young. To
feel the ground, earth,
grass or sand beneath our
feet. And we continue
this throughout life.
Walking is ideal as a way
to enjoy being active. It is
available for all ages and
abilities, whether you are
young or old, or walk fast
or slow.

Physical Forces What is gravity? How does it work? This week the students were busy work-
ing on experiments about gravity with Mrs Rayner and Mrs Kimm.
Testing gravity and how it works with different shaped balls when placed in
water. Each student took turns to submerge the different shaped
balls in the water and watch what happened when the balls were released.
Then the students tested how marbles move on different surfaces.
They used straws to blow the marbles. They soon learned
what was the best surface, it definitely was not the carpet!
Moving them on their desks was much easier.

We are still asking for donations or loans for our
display cabinets. If you have something, it could
be a book, an ink pen, or marbles, everything is
important in documenting school life. You can
donate or loan to the school. All items will be
documented and will be safe in locked cabinets.
Display Cabinets Our display
cabinets
proudly located
in the Bathurst
Library
Depot room.
Dedicated Staff At Hill End Public School we pride ourselves on our team of dedicated staff who provide all students
with the opportunity to reach their full potential. With our Term topic Physical Forces, once again,
students are being provided with another exciting term of learning and experimentation. We will be team-
ing with Glen Alice PS for some sessions via zoom. In looking at how the learning portal has progressed
already, we can already see that our students are engaged and excited about the term ahead.
Well done everyone!
