THE CHAMBER PAGE Greater Latrobe-Laurel Valley Community Chamber of Commerce LatrobeLaurelValley.org Facebook.com/latrobelaurelvalley The second anniversary of the re-branding of the Greater Latrobe-Laurel Valley Chamber of Commerce was celebrated this month as part of the Chamber’s final board of directors meeting of 2015 at the Springhill Suites. A holiday reception with new and outgoing board members and GLLV partners followed the meeting. 2015 marked a change in the physical location for the GLLV offices (and the opening of a visitor & resource center) from an obscure location in Latrobe to a prime spot along Route 30. There was a name change, a logo change, a change in attitude, a change in staff and a change in commitment to the cham- ber’s increased service area. The 21-person board is a volunteer organization, made up of lead- ers from business, industry and education, who have great in- terest and commitment to not only Greater Latrobe, but to the region as well. Six new direc- tors and new executive leader- ship will be announced in Janu- ary and it will mark the biggest change on the chamber’s board in recent years. “One of the biggest chang- es we’ve seen from the GLLV Chamber over the last year and one that has had the greatest impact is the new Neighborhood Visitor and Information Center,” said the GLLV’s new Vice Chair- man Andrea Cuda. “It’s made the chamber more visible in the community, it’s created a new level of value for members in that it offers an additional infor- mation outlet for our local busi- nesses, and of course it serves as a welcome center to visitors and residents in the area.” Sitting on recent accomplish- ments, however, isn’t an option. That’s why a strategic planning session for 2016 and beyond was held in November and the “new” board will hit the ground run- ning when the calendar rolls over. At end end of the meeting, outgoing Board Chairman Paul Puleo (First National Bank) pre- sented Chamber President David Martin with a wooden engraved plaque, for “Dedication above and beyond, Service to our Communities, and Commitment to our Chamber.” If you thought 2015 was an exciting year for the Greater Latrobe - Laurel Valley Chamber of Com- merce, 2016 will be bringing even more surprises! We’ll be bringing back old favorites for the past year, like Bowling for DARCee, the 2nd Annual Sport- ing Clays Tournament, 27th Annual Golf Classic & Dinner Event, and 71st Annual Dinner & Awards Celebration. We will be continuing Business After Hours (presented by First Commonwealth Bank) and the Chamber A.M. Breakfast Series. There will be exciting new twists on community events like Steelers Fest at Latrobe and the Great American Ba- nana Split Celebration. There will also be several new concepts intro- duced in 2016! At the start of the year, we will be announcing Chamber University, a continuing ed- ucation program that will provide Chamber mem- bers with FREE educational seminars on topics that affect your business the most. In partnership with First Commonwealth Bank, Saint Vincent College’s Women in Business Club, Latrobe BPW, and Westmoreland County Commu- nity College, the Chamber will be offering a Ladies Quarterly Networking Series.
