SqUeLCh CONTROL
TheSquelchcontrolisusedtoeliminatethebackgroundnoisewhentherearenosignalspresent.Toadjustthesquelch,firstrotateitfullycounter-clockwiseuntilthebackgroundnoiseisheard,thenslowlyrotateitclockwiseuntilthenoisejustdisappears.Iftherearesignalsonthechannel,youshouldwaituntilthechannelisclearbeforeadjustingthesquelch(orselectaquietchannel).
Onceadjusted,thereceiverwillremainquietaslongastherearenosignalspresent,butanincomingsignalwilloverridethesquelchandbeheardinthespeaker.Asthecontrolisadvancedfurtherclockwisethesquelchactionisprogressivelyincreasedandstrongerincomingsignalsareneededtooverrideit.Toreceiveveryweaksignalsortodisablethesquelch,simplyturnthecontrolfullycounter-clockwise.

SCANNING
ThegX300isfittedwithaScanfunctionthatallowsagroupofuserselectedchannelstobescannedforactivity.YourgX300hasascanmemorywhichrememberswhichchannelsyouwouldliketoscan.bydefaultyourgX300issuppliedwithallchannelsinthescanmemory.
To see which channels are presently in the scan memory:
Selecteachchannelonebyoneusingthe or keyandchecktoseeif‘M’isdisplayedtothelowerrightofthechannelnumber.
If‘M’isdisplayed,thechannelisinthescanmemory,otherwisethechannelisnotinthescanmemory.
To Add or Remove a channel from the scan memory:
Selecttherequiredchannel,thenpressandholdtheSCAN keyuntilabeepisheard.If‘M’appearstothelowerrightofthechannelnumber,thechannelhasbeenaddedtothescanmemory,otherwiseithasbeenremoved.
To scan:
Adjustthesquelchcontrolsotheradioisquiet,thenbrieflypresstheSCANkey.Ahighbeepwillbeheard,‘SCAN’willappearinthedisplayandthechannelnumberswillchangerapidlyastheradiobeginsscanning.Ifasignalisfound,theradiowillpauseonthatchannelandwillremainthereaslongasthechannelremainsbusy.Oncethechannelhasbeenclearfor5seconds,scanningwillresume.
Note:youmusthaveatleasttwochannelsprogrammedintothescanmemoryotherwisetheradiowon’tscan.
To change the scan direction:
pressthe or key.Theradiowillscaninthedirectionoftheselectedchannelkey.
To skip over a busy channel and resume scanning:
brieflypressthe or key.Scanningwillresume.
To transmit on a busy channel:
Waitforabreakintheconversation,thenpressthePTT switch.Theradiowillexitthescanmodeandstayonthechannelallowingyoutocommunicatewithothersonthatchannel.
ToresumescanningbrieflypresstheSCANkeyagain.
Note:IfthePPTispressedwhiletheradioisscanning,itwillbeignoredandalowbeepwillbeheardwhenthePPT isreleased.
To exit the Scan mode manually:
brieflypresstheSCANkey.‘SCAN’willdisappearfrom thedisplay.
Note:Excessivenoiseonachannelcancausethescannertopauseonthatchannelevenifthereisnosignalthere.Ifthisonlyhappensononechannel,youmayneedtoremovethatchannelfromthescanmemory.Ifithappensonallchannels,youshouldtryincreasingthesquelchsetting.

Channel88isthedesignated27Mhzmarinesafetychannelandinmanyareasismonitoredbycoastal-watchandrescueorganizationsforemergencyandsafetypurposes.Whenchannel88isselected,‘SAFETY’isdisplayedonthelCD.
Whenmakingradiocalls,youshouldmakeinitialcontactonchannel88thenswitchtoanotherchanneltocontinueyourconversation.Thisleaveschannel88freeforothercallsoremergencies.

YourgX300hasadedicatedchannel88keytoallowinstantaccesstochannel88.pressingthiskeycancelsallotherfunctionssuchasScanorDualWatchandtakesyoustraighttoChannel88.Whenchannel88isselectedbythe88key,‘Ch88’isdisplayedonthelCD.Themanual orkeysaredisabledinthismode.
Toreturntonormalchanneloperationsbrieflypressthe88 keyagain.‘Ch88’willdisappearfromthedisplayandtheradiowillreturntothepreviouslyselectedchannel.
DUAL WATCh (MARINe MODe)
DualWatchintheMarinemodeallowsyourgX300tomonitorbothchannel88andanotherselectedchannel byquicklyswitchingbetweenthem.Anysignalsreceived onchannel88takeprecedenceoversignalsonthe selectedchannel.
TousetheDualWatchfeature,adjustthesquelchcontrolsotheradioisquiet,selectyourpreferredworkingorclubchannelthenpresstheDWkey.‘DW’willappearonthedisplayandthechanneldisplaywillalternatebetweenyourselectedchannelandchannel88.
Ifasignalisreceivedonyourselectedchannel,theradiowillpauseonthatchannelbutwillcontinuetoswitchtochannel88every2secondsandabriefinterruptiontothesignalwillbenoticed.Oncethesignalhasgone,normalDualWatchswitchingwillresume.
Ifasignalappearsonchannel88atanytime,theradiowillstopswitchingandwillremainonchannel88foraslongasthesignalispresent.Oncethesignalhasgone,normalDualWatchswitchingwillresume.

Mostcallstoothervesselsorstationsaremadeonchannel88.Afterlisteningtoensurechannel88isclear,calltheotherstation,repeatingbothcallsignsthreetimes.

Oncecontacthasbeenestablished,movestraighttoanotherchannel(e.g.91or94)tocontinueyourconversation,leavingchannel88clearforemergenciesorfurthercalls.Don’tforgettoreturntochannel88whenyouhavefinished(orselectDualWatchonyourradio)otherwiseyoumaymissothercallsmeantforyou.

Allemergencycallsshouldbemadeonchannel88.Therearethreemaintypesofemergencycall.
1. “MAYDAY, MAYDAY, MAYDAY”
Thiscallshouldbeusedwhenyouareingraveorimminentdangerandrequireimmediateassistance.YoushouldcallMAYDAYthreetimesfollowedbyyourvessel’snameorcallsignthreetimes.Thenstateyourposition,abriefdescriptionofyourvessel,thenatureoftheemergency,thenumberofpeopleonboardandtheircondition.Ifyouhearnoreply,repeatthecallatshortintervalsbecausesomeonemay beabletohearyoubutyoumightnotbeabletoreceive theirreply
Aftercontacthasbeenmade,followanyinstructionsgiventoyou.
2. “PAN, PAN, PAN”
Usethiscallwhenanemergencysituationexistsbutthereisnoimmediatedanger.ThecallshouldbemadeinthesamewayastheMAYDAYcall.Ifyouhearnoreply,repeatthecallatregularintervals
3. “SECURITE, SECURITE, SECURITE” (Pronounced Say-cure-e-tay)
Thiscallisusedtowarnshippingofdangersorhazards,e.g.badweather,containeradriftetc.Thecallmaybemadetoalocalmonitoringstationortoallshipsinthearea.

ItisadvisabletospendalittletimeselectingthebestlocationforyourgX300.Themountingbracketcanberotatedabove,beloworbehindtheradioenablingtheradiotobemountedinawiderangeoflocations.Inaddition,anoptionalflushmountingkitallowstheradiotobeflushmountedinapanelordashboard.
Keep the following points in mind when choosing a location:
• ThegX300isdesignedtomeetIp55*standard.Werecommendedyouselectalocationthatwillminimiseexcessiveexposuretocontinuousrain orspray.
• Selectalocationthatwon’texposeyourradiotocontinuousdirectsunlightwhichcouldcauseoverheating.
• Ensurethelocationallowsafreeflowofairaroundtheheatsinkonthebackoftheradio.
• Themicrophoneandallcontrolsshouldbereadilyaccessibleandtheloudspeakereasilyheardfromthenormalsteeringordrivingposition.Anextensionspeakercanbeinstalledifrequired.
• Componentsandcurrentsintheradiocreatemagneticfields.Toavoidinterferencetocompasses,shipsautopilotsensorsetc,thegX300shouldbemountedatleast300mmfromsuchdevices.
INSTALLING The UNIT
Afterchoosingalocation,holdtheunitwiththemountingbracketattached,tothedesiredpositionandmarkthelocationwithapencil.Removethemountingbracketfromtheradioanddrillthemountingholes.boltorscrewthebracketinplaceusinghardwaresuitableforthemountingsurface.Theunitissuppliedwithstainlesssteelscrews,however,ifthemountingsurfaceisunsuitableforscrews
youmayneedtoreplacethesewithstainlesssteelbolts.Rememberthefixingsforoverheadmountedunitsmayhavetowithstandheavypoundingwhenavesselisinroughwaterorbeingtowedonatrailerorthevehicleis onroughroad.

ConnecttheREDpowerleadtothepositive(+)sideofthebatteryortoanaccessorypointinthevesselorvehicle’sfusebox.
ConnecttheblACKpowerleadtothenegative(-)sideofthebatteryortoagroundpointinyourvesselorvehicle.
Note:TheDCConnectorisnotwaterproof.Ifinstalledin anexposedlocation,theconnectorshouldbeprotectedwithwaterprooftapetopreventwateringress.
IMPORTANT:TheREDpowerleadisfittedwitha2Ampfuse.Ifthefuseblows,useonlyastandard2Amp(3Ag)fuseasareplacement.Useofahigherratedfuseoraslow-blowtypecouldresultindamagetoyourradiowhichwouldvoidthewarranty
Ifrequired,anextensionspeakermaybeinstalledtoimprovesoundlevelsinnoisyenvironmentsorinlocationsfurtherawayfromthesteeringordrivingposition.ForlocationsexposedtowaterwerecommendtheSpK45whichwillfitthesuppliedadaptorthatconnectstotheextensionspeakersocketontherearoftheradio.

Itisessentialtoselectagoodquality,highefficiency, 27Mhzantenna.Apoorqualityantennaoronenotdesignedforthespecificfrequencybandyouareusing willgiveverypoorperformance.
SincethegX300iscapableofbeingswitchedbetweenthe27MhzMarineandthe27MhzCbbands,itisimportanttoconnectanantennasuitableforthebandyouhaveselected.becauseeachbandisinadifferentpartofthefrequencyspectrumitisn’tpossibletohaveasingleantennathatwillworkwellonbothbands.Youwillthereforeneedtoselectasuitableantennatosuitthebandyouhaveselected.
gMEhaveahugerangeofsuitable27MhzCband27MhzMarineantennastosuitmostinstallationsandapplications.WerecommendyoucontactyourlocalDealerforadvice.

NOISe SUPPReSSION
27MhzMarineandCbradiocanbepronetoelectricalandignitioninterference.ThereasonisthatelectricalnoiseisaformofAMtransmissionsimilartothatusedbyyourradioandyourradio’sreceiverisverysensitive.Inmostcases,ignitionnoisecanbegreatlyreducedoreliminatedbyselectingtheNoise Limiter (NL)keyontheradio.Insomeseverecases,additionalsuppressionmayneedtobefittedtotheignitionsystemofyourvesselorvehicle,inwhichcasewerecommendyouconsultanautoormarineElectricianforadvicespecifictoyourinstallation.

ItisrecommendedthatthemicrophonebeleftpermanentlyconnectedtothegX300,butifitmustbedisconnected,proceedasfollows:
1. Insertasmallscrewdriverbetweentherubberbootandthelipoftheraisedareaonthefrontpanel.
2. Easetherubberbootoutofthecableentryholeandslideitalongthecableawayfromthefrontpanel.
3. Identifythepluglockinglever,workthescrewdriverbladebehinditandmovethelevertowardstheplugbody.Atthesametimegentlypulltheplugfromthesocket.(seediagrambelow)

STANDARD COMMUNICATIONS CONTRACT WARRANTY
1. STATUTORY WARRANTIeS
1.1 TheTradepracticesActpartV,Division2Aandotherlegislationimplyconditions,warrantiesandotherobligationsonustoconsumersthatcannotbeexcluded,restrictedormodified.Thoseprovisionsapplytotheextentrequiredbylaw.
1.2 Weexcludeallotherconditions,warrantiesandobligationswhichwouldotherwisebeimpliedconcerningtheactivitiescoveredbythisagreement.
1.3 Welimitourliabilitywhereweareallowedtodoso.Examplesofwhereweareallowedtolimitliabilityare- (a)youacquiregoodsfromusforre-supply;
(b)thegoodsorserviceswesupplyarenotofakindordinarilyacquiredforpersonal,domesticorhouseholduseorconsumption.
1.4 Whereweareallowedtolimitourliability,totheextentpermittedbylaw,oursoleliabilityforbreachofacondition,warrantyorotherobligationimpliedbylawislimited-
(a)inthecaseofgoodswesupply,toanyoneofthefollowingaswedecide- (i)thereplacementofthegoodsorthesupplyofequivalentgoods;
(ii)therepairofthegoods;
(iii)thepaymentofthecostofrepairingthegoodsorofacquiringequivalentgoods;
(iv)thepaymentofthecostofhavingthegoodsrepaired;or
(b)inthecaseofserviceswesupply,toanyoneofthefollowingaswedecide-
(i)thesupplyingoftheservicesagain;

2. ADDITIONAL WARRANTIeS
2.1 Thewarrantiesinthisclauseareinadditiontothestatutorywarrantiesreferredtointhepreviousclause.
2.2 Wewarrantourgoodstobefreefromdefectsinmaterialsandworkmanshipforoneyearfromthedateoforiginalsale(oranotherperiodweagreetoinwriting).Duringthisperiodandasoursoleliabilitytoyouunderthiswarranty,weagreeto,atouroption,eitherrepairorreplacegoodswhichwearesatisfied
aredefective.Wewarrantreplacementpartsfortheremainderoftheperiodofwarrantyforthegoodsintowhichtheyareincorporated.
2.3 Wewarrantourotherrepairstobefreefromdefectsinmaterialsandworkmanshipforthreemonthsfromthedateoftheoriginalrepair.Duringthisperiodandasoursoleliabilitytoyoufortherepair,weagreetorepairorreplace(atouroption)repairedgoodswhichwearesatisfiedaredefective.
2.4 Wewarrantthatwewillperformserviceswithreasonablecareandskillandagreetoinvestigateanycomplaintmadeingoodfaiththatwehaveperformedservicesunsatisfactorily.Ifwearesatisfiedthatthecomplaintisjustified,andasoursoleliabilitytoyouunderthiswarranty,weagreetosupplythoseservicesagainatnoextrachargetoyou.
2.5 Ifyouwantwarrantyserviceunderthisclauseyoumustgiveusanoriginalorcopyofthesalesinvoicefromthetransactionorsomeotherevidenceshowingdetailsofthetransaction.
3. OTheR LIMITATIONS
3.1 Youmaynotrelyonanyrepresentation,warrantyorotherprovisionbyorforuswhichisnotcoveredbyclause[1]orrepeatedinthisagreementinclearterms.
3.2 Wearenotliable(norareouremployees,contractorsandagents)foranydamage,economiclossorlossofprofitswhetherdirect,indirect,general,specialorconsequential-
(a)arisingoutofanybreachofanyimpliedorexpressterm,conditionorwarranty;or
(b)sufferedasaresultofournegligence(orthatofouremployees,contractorsoragents)
-apartfromliabilityassetoutintheprevioustwoclauses.
3.3 Theliabilityofapartyunderthisagreement(whetherarisingincontract,tortorbystatute)istobereducedbythesameproportionasrepresentstheproportionofthelossordamagecausedorcontributedtobytheotherparty,itscontractorsoragents.
