Profile of GSSIFGujarat State Small Industries Federation was established on the 15th of November, 1963 under the Chairmanship of Late Arvind Narottam Lalbhai. Besides Late Arvind Narottam Lalbhai, Federation is fortunate enough to have received the leadership of Personalities like Late Bansilal Shah, Late Kalyanbhai Fadia, Late Manharbhai Patel in the past. In the recent years i.e. from 1993 to 2006 the Federation was headed by Shri Maganbhai H. Patel as its President. Since 2007 it has been being headed by Shri Atul D.Kapasi as its President.

The Federation is an Apex Body of MSMEs of Gujarat. At present, It has 107 MSME Association Members like Engineering, Automobiles. Textiles. Plastics, Dyes & Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals, Marbles, Ceramics, Rubber, Minerals, Brass Parts, Paints, Gems & Jewellery & Diamond Industries spread across all over Gujarat. The total number of MSM Units which the Federation represents is 3,20.000.

(A) At a State Level, the Federation has been active in resolving general issues pertaining to MSMEs. The Federation is having a close rapport with the Central and State Govt. as well as Banks like RBI, Nationalised Banks, SIDBI, NSIC and other Corporations andDepartments connected with the Industries.

(B) The Federation studies various problems of MSMEs in the field of Finance, Power, Raw Materials, Unhealthy Interfrerence of Laws &Rules, Marketing, Problems arising due to implementation of W.T.O. Agreement, Problems arising due to libralisation of theIndustrial Policy. These problems are being taken up with the Concerned Authorities for resolving the same in the right spirit ofIndustrial development in the State.

(C) In the Scenario of the Globlisation and Libralisation the Industries are given the free hand to develop and compete in the InternationalMarket. This has challenged the competency of the small entrepreneurs. The federation takes this opportunity to back its membersby arranging face to face meetings with the Overseas Delegations comprising the Industrialists and Businessmen for development ofImport and Export Trades, Technology Transfers and Joint Ventures.

Simultaneously Small Entrepreneurs are encouraged to participate in the Buyer- Seller Meets, Exhibitions, Industries related Seminars and Trade Fairs at District Level, State Level and International Level. The Federation also participates in Govt. Purchase Programmes. This boosts the marketing strength of the MSM units. It helps the MSM Units to sell their Products to the Big Govt. Organisations like ONGC, BHEL, GAIL, Railway, Defence etc. Since the exposure of the Small Entrepreneurs at the State and National Levels is necessary, it encourages its members to participate in the National Quality and Export Award Competitions. (A) The Federation is vigilant to keep its member units aware of the International Trade Scenario and therefore arranges interaction of

its members with the overseas trainees from NIESBUD. (B) The Hon’ble Union Finance Minister invites the President of this Federation to participate in the meeting for discussion of the

recommendations for the ensuing Budget which provides the Federation the platform to bring to the kind notice of the Policy Makersthe problems and grievances of its members while preparing the Budget proposals.

(C) The side effect of the Industrial Development is the creation of the Environmental problems. To solve these problems the Federationeducates its members regarding the ways and means to minimise the Environmental Problems. For this porpose EnvironmentCommittee has also been formed. This Committee provides the guidelines to the MSMEs to carry on their production activities insuch a way that environmental pollution is kept at the lowest possible level.

(D) For the period from 1994 to 2007, the Federation conducted Training Programmes for the New Entrepreneurs under Prime MinisterRojagar Yojana (PMRY) and trained nearly 5800 Trainees in the various Industrial Trades and Services Sectors. With an objectiveto reach out to its members every month, the federation brings out a Monthly Bulletin in the name of “Laghu Udyog MahamandalBulletin”. This Bulletin acts as a Friend, Philosopher & Guide for its members. This Bulletin cotains useful articles for its memberslike Current Economic & Financial matters, Bankers’ various schemes of Finance, Industrial News and Notes, Technical updates,Central and State Govt. important Notifications etc. In fact the Bulletin is considered as a prestigious publication for the MSMEmembers.

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment.
