GUIDELINES ON INSURANCE CLAIMS

SEA CARGO – BREAK BULK• Gather landing information from clearing agents.• Later ask them to obtain landing remark certificate (LRC) from Port

incase of Damage or Loss.• Within 3 Days of landing, apply for Joint Survey with Steamer Agents /

Customs. Other wise it will be treated as Time-Barred Survey.• On Consignee’s behalf, Clearing Agents can also apply for Joint Survey.• On the Basis of Joint Survey findings, pay Customs Duty as required.• Detailed final survey be held at final warehouse with Insurance

Surveyors.• On the Basis of Final Survey findings, prefer firm monetary loss on

carrier or their Agents by Registered Post with ACK Due.

• Submit Insurance Claim documents to your Insurer:– Claim Form.– Invoice– Packing list– Consignee copy of Bill of Lading– Bill of Entry– Landing remark Certificate– Steamer survey Report– Claim on carriers with ACK – Communication exchanged between Carrier / Shipper– Salvage offer

SEA CARGO – CONTAINERS - LCL

LCL : One or more Shippers sending consignments to more than one Consignee in a Container (Less Container Load).

• Carriers are responsible for Damage (or) Loss to cargo. • Obtain De-Stuffing tally sheet from CWC or Concerned CFS.• Apply for Joint Survey with carrier Agents / Customs.• Pay Customs duty as required as per Joint Survey.• Conduct Final Survey at the final Warehouse.• Prefer firm Monetary Loss on carriers with ACK Due.• Submit Insurance Claim Documents to your Insurer

SEA CARGO – CONTAINERS - FCL• FCL: FULL CONTAINER LOAD.- One shipper sending Consignment to one

Consignee in a Container.• This kind of Shipments are done as House Stuffing i.e.: Stuffing takes place at

Shipper’s Godown. • Hence Bill of Lading for such shipments are issued with a clause viz: “SHIPPER’S

LOAD & COUNT”• In such Shipments, Carriers are responsible for loss or damage to cargo, only if

the Container’s Seals are Tampered at Discharging Port.• Even if the Seals are Intact and if there exists any deficiency to Container’s

structure like Roof / Paneling Cut / Torn / Holed, please prefer notice on carriers.• Any evidence of water Entry into Container, Salinity test be conducted on

sample.• If Salinity test is Positive, please put notice on Carriers.• All communication to carriers be intimated to Insurer and your Shipper.• After detailed Final Survey, prefer Firm Monetary Loss on Carriers with ACK Due• Submit Insurance Claim Documents to Insurer.

AIR CARGO

• Obtain Landing information through your C & F Agents.• If landed in Damaged / Tampered condition, apply for

Joint Survey with Air Carrier / AAI / Customs.• Pay Customs duty as required.• If landed sound but subsequently damaged at AAI,

please put notice on AAI• Location Slip gives information About Landing

condition.• After detailed Final Survey, prefer Firm Monetary Loss

on carriers with ACK Due

LOCAL TRANSIT

• Incase of Damage or Loss noticed during door delivery, endorse on or reverse of Lorry Receipt about condition of Goods and ask Driver or Carrier Representative to Sign.

• Incase of Damage or Loss at Transporter’s Premises, please get Open Delivery

• After detailed survey at final Warehouse please prefer firm Monetary Loss on Carriers with ACK Due.

• Notification of loss to Insurer is to be done within 7 days of arrival of truck.
