TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION FOR SET OF VARIABLE SPRING HANGER ASSEMBLIES
1.0 Scope This specification covers the design, manufacture, inspection; testing and supply of variable
load spring hanger assemblies.
2.0 Material of Construction:
2.1 Springs : 50 Cr V4 to DIN 17221 / 735 A 50 or En 47 to BS 970 Part V of 1972 or its equivalent, duly shot peened.
2.2 Spring casing : IS 2062 Gr A,R&W
2.3 Plates / Flats : Carbon Steel to IS-2062 Gr. A/B 2.4 Hanger rods/Screw rod : Carbon Steel to IS-2062 Gr. A/B 2.5 Beam attachment : Carbon Steel to IS-2062 Gr. A/B 2.6 Turn buckle/ Threaded Bush : Carbon steel to IS 1875 Gr.II (Forged) upto M-30 Carbon steel to IS 2062 Gr.A/B (Machined) above M-30
2.7 Bushes / Low friction pads : Graphite 2.8 Pipe clamp / U-bolt / Saddle : Alloy steel to 1.25% Cr,0.5% Mo (ASTM A182 F11)(or) Alloy steel to 2.25% Cr,1.0% Mo (ASTM A182F22) (or)
Carbon steel to IS 2062 Gr.A/B (As mentioned in Hanger schedule of specific project indent enclosed with the indent)
2.9 Bolt/stud nuts : Alloy steel to A193 Gr.B7/A194 Gr.2H for F11/CSclamps Alloy steel to A193 Gr.B16/A194 Gr.4 for F22 clamps 2.10 Name Plates, Scales : Aluminum Anodised 2.11 Pointers : Carbon steel / Stainless steel
Arrangement of hangers shall be generally inline with the support sketches attached with
the indent(PEMC document of specific project enclosed with the indent). Any other component not mentioned above, but required for completion of manufacture shall conform to MSS SP 58 & 69 and ANSI B31.1. Total assembly length is the height between centerline of pipe and interface with supporting civil structure. Supplier shall maintain the specified length either by adding or trimming the rod length suitably and assembly lengths shall be exactly as per the hanger schedule. For load, movements, length of hanger assembly etc., refer hanger schedule(PEMC document of specific project enclosed with the indent).The typical arrangement of variable load spring hanger assemblies shall be generally as per sh 3 of 5 of this specification.
3.0 Painting & Punch Marking Springs shall be given a rust preventive coating of “ Black phosphating “ after shot blasting. Unless noted otherwise, the Spring Housings & other components shall be applied with an epoxy based Primer & then final coating (total DFT- 150 microns- approx.). Colour – “ Sea Green” – IS 5- shade 217. The assemblies shall be stenciled with Tag nos.as well as punched on the name plate , so that they can be correctly identifiable at site.

4.0 Inspection & Testing
Inspection & Testing as per approved Quality Assurance (QA) Plan. At least one piece per lot of similar assemblies shall be load tested to 3 times the rated load for 5 minutes. In case of
spring housings, the sliding plate shall be locked in position before testing. The tests are to be conducted in the presence of BHEL / persons authorized by BHEL.
5.0 Assembly & Dispatch
Preferably total assembly shall be fabricated and dispatched in single despatchable units only. Where the length of the assembly is not convenient for transportation, the assemblies can be dis-assembled in 2 or 3 segments at the threaded joints (like at Turn Buckles) & dispatched.
But in that case, the linking identification marks shall be stenciled clearly in all the segments – as sub- parts of the main unit. Vendor shall do the packing & dispatching of the assemblies appropriately, so that they are not damaged during transportation & storing at site.In case of
any problem at site while identifying assemblies (in case supplied loose based on transportable restrictions),vendor to sort out the problem to the satisfaction of erection agency.
6.0 Documentation Along with offer: One copy each of the following documents shall be submitted along with offer, without which offers will not be scrutinised:
a) G.A. Drawing of assembly / leaflets / catalogues for the offered item binding dimensions, bill of materials with material specification details, tests, weight etc. b) Any deviation to this standard, separately under a heading of Technical Deviations
After placement of order: Four copies each of the following documents for approval:
a) G.A. Drawings with binding dimensions, bill of materials with material specification details, details of tests, weight, cross-sectional & constructional details and materials of construction Quality plan adopted by the supplier during manufacture and inspection / testing b) Installation Guidelines Five copies of the following test certificates shall be furnished to BHEL along with each consignment attested by authorized inspector: a) Chemical and Mechanical Test Certificates b) Test Certificates
Ten copies of Operation & Maintenance manuals to BHEL (Hyderabad) Approval / Review of the documents submitted to BHEL shall not relieve the vendor from its
responsibilities of supplying the assemblies as per applicable standard
