Tahs’ quartet get the job done

I hope our Queensland clients understand – but there will be no apologies for getting up close and personal with the State Of Origin Shield last month. It’s been a very long wait and Steve couldn’t resist the opportunity to crash the party and help celebrate the win. Congrats to coach Laurie Daley, Boyd Cordner and Beau Scott who did such a great job for the Blues. Well done also to Josh Papali, Ben Hunt, Jake Friend and big Dave Taylor who played their part in the Maroons campaign. Until next year …………..

Thanks again to BSC Don’t forget to take advantage of one of our sponsors DNA Body Science who are offering reduced prices on all product.

To take advantage of the offer, simply call Nathan Ford direct on 07 5526 6714 and he’ll assist you.

Just let him know you are a GS Sports client.

Cowboys secure jumping Jake

Congrats to Brisbane hooker Jake Granvi lle who wi l l head to the Cowboys next season. Jake has been a real find this year and thoroughly deserves this opportunity.

Jake and Josh lock in new contracts

Well done to Jake Friend and Josh McCrone who recently secured new deals with their clubs. Both have enjoyed some great results this year with Jake being a shadow Origin player for the first time and Josh being selected for Country Origin.

CELEBRATION TIME FOR BLUES

Congratulations to our men Kane Douglas, Jeremy Tilse, Steve Hoiles and Jed Holloway who helped steer the NSW Waratahs to Super 15s glory. The boys have all worked extremely hard this season and thoroughly deserved the victory. It was especially sweet for Kane who will head overseas next season to continue his career in Ireland. Well done fellas. Enjoy.

ADAM LANDS THE TRIFECTA

IF South Sydney halfback Adam Reynolds looks a

tad weary on the paddock in the race to the semi-

finals, it’s because he has his hands full at home.

Adam, 23, became a dad for the third time last

month when his beautiful partner Tallara gave birth

to son Kobe.

Kobe now has two big sisters, Nakylah and Aaliyah.

“I’m a lucky man,” Adam said. “Tallara does a

remarkable job with the kids.”

Is Under 20s right age for NYC IT’S about this time every year when the future of players at NYC level, who are turning 21 next year, is determined. The question is: “Is Under 20s the right age for our National Youth competition?” or should we as a game explore changes to the current system. The problem here is, as agents, we don’t make the rules or select the age groups. The league will argue that good young players who are not yet ready for fulltime training, have the opportunity to step into the NSWRL Cup or Queensland Cup to secure themselves a pathway. And while this is true, many young players struggle to come to grips with having been showcased as a 20 year old, playing games on TV and being written about in newspapers and on websites – to being cast into a division with less profile. Every player dreams the dream of being a first grade star but in reality, very few get there. Our advice to those of you who are turning 21 next year and are not yet contracted going forward is simple. Finish the year off well and leave no stone unturned. If you can say to yourself at season’s end “there’s nothing more I could have done to impress” then you have done your job. Be prepared however to continue to work hard for many years to come. Only 272 people in Australia and NZ run out each week in the NRL. To get there, you have to make enormous sacrifices.

HULL KR CHIEF MEETS GS SPORTS

It was a pleasure to recently catch up with Mike Smith, the CEO of Hull Kingston Rovers. Mike, who travels to Australia each year, is always happy to share his knowledge of developments in England with us.

The Annual Agent Accreditation Workshop will be held on August 14th at St George Leagues Club. All 100 accredited agents must attend the workshop where topics discussed will include:

• Salary cap • Welfare and Education • Integrity Unit • Illicit Substance Testing Policy • Problem Gambling in Players • Accreditation Scheme and its review

Paul Massey will run the workshop and NRL officials Jamie L’Oste Brown, Paul Heptonstall, Tony McFadyen, Nick Weeks, Alby Taylor and Jim Doyle will speak at the forum.

NRL provides support and assistance for all its players

Around the traps……. Footy stars find different ways to spend their time when not training or playing. Souths Jason Clark recently renovated his double garage and turned it into a granny flat. Newcastle’s Beau Scott often takes to the water to round up some healthy Salmon on his days off. Let us know how you spend your down time and we’d be happy to share it in our monthly award winning newsletter.

Stars all Rise For Alex Well done to all our players and their families and friends who got behind the Rise For Alex campaign. The support for Alex has been amazing and it just goes to show that the rugby league family look out for each other. Special congrats to Korbin Sims who did such a wonderful interview with Erin Molan on the Footy Show last month.

The recent struggles of Queensland State of Origin star Darius Boyd is a timely reminder to us all of the need to support and help those that may be struggling with the pressures of life as a professional athlete. The NRL continues to work closely all players to ensure they have the best possible “support system” in sport. Players are reminded that Davidson Trahaire Corpsych is a free, confidential and highly credentialed counseling service available to all players, staff and their families from all National Youth Competition, State League and NRL teams. Corpsych’s number is 1300 360 366 Remember, every club has a welfare and education manager whose job is to look after the well being of players in their charge. Make yourself known to these professionals who will assist you greatly.

Arise Sir Tariq – you’re a shining Knight

Brisbane recruit Stewart Mills has returned home mid season to play out the year with his mates at Helensburgh. After shining for the Broncos in the World Nines in New Zealand at the beginning of the season, Stewart wasn’t able to secure a starting spot in the Broncos line-up. After much thought and careful consideration, Stewart felt it was best he play “footy for fun” for the second half of the year to see if he could re-ignite his passion for the game. Stewart’s stance is both refreshing and commendable and we anticipate he will bounce back bigger and better than ever.

Important warning re gambling on sport It is timely to remind ALL players that the NRL will adopt a ZERO tolerance policy on prohibited bettering and related activities in our Game. In short: You cannot gamble on rugby league. To be clear, you cannot have a friend or relative place a bet for you. You cannot provide inside information. To be clear, you cannot tell a friend or relative about player injuries or team changes which have not been announced. The rules also apply to all players in all grades and agents. If you are unclear about anything feel free to contact your Club CEO, the NRL or ourselves.

Sincere best wishes to Tariq Sims who will make the move from Townsville to Newcastle next year. Tariq has been in great form this season and is looking forward to the new challenge. “Hopefully we can finish the year off on a great note with the Cowboys,” Tariq said. “They’re a great bunch if guys and we have unfinished business.”
