Bacula Forest-In all the tales of men and beast

There lies a land of rest and peace. -

From the dunes of the south where deserts reign strong,

where hot winds will push you down or carry you along

to a magical place only heard of in dreams

that lays hidden amidst cement blocks and fierce metal beams.

In a place full of noise where the ruler is man

an oasis was built in the town of Milan.

the Cave

-If man could only but recall That they first drew in caves, not on clean cement walls.-

The Bat brought her to his part of the garden, down at the very end of the tunnel was a cave-like structure. The walls were damp and moist, beautiful crystals that sang to the eyes were growing left and right. The

waters were trickling down the walls serenading the inhabitants of the dark. The cave was long and wide and above you could hear the rumbling of the

machines but one felt safe and sound in the home of the bats.

the ForestAll around her were trees and flowers as far as the eye could see, the walls were made of human glass which kept the garden warm and damp and

all the noise of the outside world was barely to be heard. This was a world for birds, for bugs, for mice, for bats, for all the creatures that needed shelter from the harsh whip of the city, for all those who came to the homes of men in the hopes for food and shelter, for all those who missed the fo-rests and fields. There were flowers and plants of all kinds, clean water was gathered in pools for all the animals to quench their thirsts and wash themselves. There were fruits from all over the world and the grass was thick and moist. The place was alive. There were robins from the pine forests of the north and blackbirds from the east, a family of thrushes had settled in a nest built to perfection. Flory could see herself spending the rest of her summer here and the rest of all summers to come. She was happy. The little swift that travelled so far had come to hate man for what they built but now she was in awe of the things these strange creatures could

do. This place would do just fine. It sure would.

Description of the installation

Two cylinders symbolically recall the two habitats developed in the project. The first appears like a closed and dark space, the second one is perme-able and filled with thick vegetation. From the inner part of both elements speakers play sounds and noises of the two habitats. Nature and city re-gain the harmony lost.

Description of the project

When mankind built the first settle-ment, nature was progressively pu-shed away from the human world. The evil nature terrified men who consequently tried to set up their own habitat. City became the opposite of nature. Human urban vocation cre-ated a strong boundary between wil-derness and urbanity. Nowadays na-ture can exist within the city only as an exception, only as a blurry exam-ple of what was left from the previous natural condition. The project re-establishes the balan-ce between men and nature working on a dialogical relationship. The vio-lent city growth has spontaneously left some appropriate places where nature can regain the space that ori-ginally did not belong to the urban world. Men, animal and plants can coexist if we consider a society that goes beyond social, economical and cultural contemporary standards. The project is an example of these ur-ban places within the city of Milan. Architecture becomes a simple proce-dure of delimitation, a light structure that works as a membrane between human and natural world. Along the area different animal and vegetal spe-cies can find a place where to build their own “nest”, a place where to blossom new atmospheres that break the grey and mineral connotation of the city.
