Pre-Conference Events ATCBE Introductory Prep Workshop

April 22, 2017, 9 am – 12:30 pm $125 tuition

Course Description

This workshop is an introduction to the six content areas of the ATCBE, and will help organize and prepare the exam taker for further study. The participants will create an individualized study plan by the conclusion of the course. Utilizing a range of study sources, the facilitators will review skills designed to improve exam taker’s knowledge and application of effective study. Cognitive strategies to increase success in a testing environment are presented.

Presenters Bios: Traci Bitondo, LPC, ATR-BC Traci Bitondo is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Board Certified Art Therapist, Nationally Certified Counselor and a Certified New Jersey Disaster Response Crisis Counselor. She received her Master’s degree in Counseling with a specialization in Art Therapy from Caldwell University. She has experience working with a variety of populations but specializes in the treating of those with severe and persistent mental illness, personality disorders, and substance abuse disorders. For the past 10 years she has worked full-time at a State psychiatric hospital in Morris Plains, New Jersey. In addition, she has a private practice in Rockaway, NJ. Natashia Collins, MA, LPC, ATR-BC, ACS Natashia is a graduate from the Caldwell University Masters in Counseling with Art Therapy Specialization. Since graduation, Natashia has become a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Board Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC), and Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS). Natashia currently works as an adjunct professor for the Caldwell University Art Therapy department, and full-time as a Clinical Coordinator for a Partial Care and Intensive Outpatient program. Natashia’s career has primarily focused on children and adolescents in mental health crisis. Danielle Minkin, LAC, ATR-BC Danielle is a Board Certified, Registered Art Therapist, a Licensed Associate Counselor, and a Nationally Certified Counselor. She earned a Master’s Degree in Counseling with an Art Therapy Specialization at Caldwell University. Since 2009, Danielle has worked in settings that include: psychiatric inpatient hospitals, a community mental health center, in-home therapy, and an adult partial hospitalization program. Danielle is currently working as a Senior Counselor/Art Therapist on an inpatient State Psychiatric Hospital Diversion Program at Carrier Clinic. Leanne Sim, MS, LAC, ATR-BC

Leanne is originally from New Zealand and moved to the United States in 2008. She graduated from The College of New Rochelle, New York with a Masters of Science in Art Therapy/Counseling. Leanne is a Licensed Associate Counselor and Board Certified Art Therapist with diverse experience working with varying populations including families, inpatient acute psychiatric, outpatient, adolescents and geriatrics. She applies a gentle approach to self-understanding and change to help her clients realize their therapeutic goals.

Regular consultation with and reliance on the Art Therapy Credentials Board’s Code of Ethics, Professional Practice, and Disciplinary

Procedures assists art therapists with professionalism in practice. Scope of practice reminds counselors and art therapists to maintain professionalism and understand limitations. Presenter will discuss the update to the ATCB’s ethics

code, revisions, and attempts at inclusiveness and parity, and why it all matters.

Learning objectives As a result of attending this paper presentation, attendees will be able to:

• identify the major differences and additions to the 2016 ATCB Code of Ethics, Professional Practice, and Disciplinary Procedures

• explain the rationale for the name change

• define scope of practice

She is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of New Jersey, a Board-certified/Registered art therapist, an Art Therapy Certified Supervisor, and an Approved Clinical Supervisor. She has practiced art therapy for over twenty-five years and has given presentations about art therapy nationally. A Past-President of the New Jersey Art Therapy Association and Honorary Life Member, she currently is President of the Art Therapy Credentials Board and was chair of the ad hoc committee on Code of Ethics, Conduct, and Disciplinary Procedures 2016 revision. She has lectured at Caldwell University and Montclair State University. Mary Ellen has supervised student art therapy interns and art therapists and clinicians seeking registration and licensure for over fifteen years. Mary Ellen has published on art therapy with teens in independent living and adults with severe mental illness, most recently including a book chapter, “Perspectives of Recovery: Art Therapy with Persons with Severe Mental Illness” in The Wiley-Blackwell Handbook of Art Therapy, edited by Gussak and Rosal (2015).
