Issue Information

Cover Line; Identifying the Cover Star and Giving a small detail of the further interview inside.

Listing other featured artist so you can see what to expect In this issue of the magazine.

Quite Plain, wouldn’t get me the best grade, good to know it needs more skills shown to become more successful.

Girly Colours, need to be more for both genders so a colour that is not specifically linked to either gender.

I think their should be more Images on the front cover to attract more readers if they are not interested in main image.

A lot of jewellery worn to give that hip hop Urban feel to the magazine e.g chains worn

This specific one from “Flavour” is so Plain, I don’t want my Contents page to look Anything like this.

Page Numbers in chronological order and defined into different sections e.g “Exposure”

The colour scheme is not very clear, the white is too basic and the look of the contents page is too simplistic.

Relevant images, but not enough on there and a irrelevant image should not be the biggest one.

Not detailed when discussing the titles of different articles, which means it is hard to differentiate between different ones and harder to navigate through the magazine.

There is no point in subheadings for different types of articles if they are in chronological order.

I don’t like the idea of the page being folded up looks scruffy and if there is not much detail about the magazine you shouldn't have details that are unnecessary

Page 5: Grime music slide

Again too simplistic and boring.

Needs to not just be bulk text, too overwhelming for some readers, should have quotes or snippets to attract attention

Colour scheme is simple but effective and works nicely with the photographs used in this article.

Font is very smallIt would be very expensive (especially for a free magazine) to produce a full-page image and is unnecessary if the article is thorough.

Nice relevant images, look professional have been photo shopped well.

Interesting topics to the article e.g. the gossip/scandal etc.

NME Magazine case study notes; The New Musical Express, popularly known by the initialism NME, is a music publication in the United Kingdom, published weekly since March 1952. It started as a music newspaper, and gradually moved toward a magazine format during the 1980s, changing from newsprint in 1998. It was the first British paper to include a singles chart, in the 14 November 1952 edition. In the 1970s it became the best-selling British music newspaper. During the period 1972 to 1976 it was particularly associated with gonzo journalism, then became closely associated with punk rock through the writing of Tony Parsons and Julie Burchill.

• Type and focus of the magazine is “indie”•Publishing company for NME;•The frequency of the publication is Weekly•Price; £2.99 •Editors name; Mike Williams•First issue 7th of march 1952•IPC media

Great use of colour scheme

NME trademark text is clear and big, easy to identify.

Picture fits in with colour scheme e.g red in his shirt = red text

Blue against red is used cleverly to contrast against each other so the cover lines telling you what is in this weekly magazine are clear and stand out against the rest.

The convention of a bar code is used.

A puff is in the top right hand corner of the magazine

Issue information (price date etc.)

The image overlaps the title so as not to obscure the medium shot of Alex Turner.

Vynal relevant to magazine. Question used on the front to entice the target audience.

I want to emulate the idea and look of the Polaroid images it would be very simple to do on Photoshop and looks very effective.

Clear colour scheme looks very effective sticking to the pink white and black background.

Cover lines used at the start

Barcodes used as a usual magazine convention

Enticing the reader mentioning “free posters” insentives.

Page 9: Grime music slide

Interesting and engaging layout.

Issue information on top of an image

Relevant Images

Page numbers big and bold and shown with an image so it’s obvious what the topic is for that particular article

Columns like the “PLUS” column to entice the reader and add little extra’s so nothing is missing on the contents page.

Date on the top and the title is unique as well not just putting “contents” and giving that page a specific name.

Page 10: Grime music slide

I really love the idea of the newspaper cutting out as a title is looks really effective and gives it an alternative “punk” look which goes with the look of Lilly Allen in this photo as she is wearing tartan. I am going to try and emulate this title idea in my double page spread.

The image goes with the colour scheme again red from the shirt is reflected into the odd rare section of text in this double page spread.

Relevant image of artist which is the focus of the whole article the photo is a medium long shot and it takes up a full page which looks good but will be costly in printing expenses.

Not too much actual article or text for a double page spread could be disappointing to readers that like a lot of information.

Colour scheme is effective; using black, white and red throughout.

Page 11: Grime music slide

If text is overwhelming they have a dip in and out of side bar so readers can get bite size information quickly and it is separated from the text I would like to use this idea in my double page spread.

Really nice different images selection. Action shots
