Join us on Friday, July 11th at 12:30pm for a Brown Bag Lunch Discussion on Travel Geology. Whether you have been out west or have dreamed of traveling to that part of our country, join us as Sandi Brenner shares her photos of na-tional parks such as the Grand Canyon, Petrified National Forest, and Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. Not only is the scenery in each place truly amazing, but they each tell a story (geologically) of that area. We look forward to seeing you there.

Nicholas Loring was recently elected to the Library Board of Trustees and will serve as the Treasurer. He is a resident of Smithfield, a principal financial advisor in the Loring Advisory Group, located in Greenville, and is the Treasurer of the Smithfield Rotary Club. Mr. Loring received a BS in Finance from Bryant University and an MBA from Mississippi State University.

Young Adult Department at the

Greenville Public Library

The Summer Reading Program sign up begins

on June 30th. If you are between the ages

of 11-17 stop by to register at the Welcome

Desk. There will be weekly prize drawings,

incentive coupons and 4 GRAND PRIZES to

choose from. The program will end on

The Baker Room will only be open

this summer on six Wednesday afternoons starting

on July 2nd. We will be playing MineCraft on ten

of the machines in the room. You must sign up for

this program. The online list will be open on the

Wednesday before the week you would like to

attend. Hours will be from 2:30-4:30.

Anyone 11-17 may attend.

Book Buddies is a great

way to earn community service hours during the summer. If you love reading to children this is the program for you. Anyone in middle or high school may sign up now at the Welcome Desk. The program will be every Tuesday from July 1st to August 5th at 10:30 and at 6:30. You may volunteer for one or both time slots.

Hasbro’s Safe Sitter The program for kids ages 11-14, will be on Monday, July 21st from 9:00-4:00. Essential skills for sitting are included in this program. Come in to register, sign paperwork and pay the fee of $45 which includes all of the materials. Limited space so sign up early!

Stomp Rockets with Miss Babs and Miss Rhonda

Learn how to make your own stomp rocket and then fly it.

Anyone from aged 8-14 can register online

“Spark a Reaction” with Darren Yong

July 17 from 2:30-3:30 for ages 10-17

Learn how magicians use science and psychology in their shows. Sign up begins on June 30th.

3D Printer Show and Tell with Mr. Ray

Spend an hour learning about our new MakerBot 3D Printer. Watch while Mr. Ray sets the machine to create an object and then learn how to find the designs so you can make your own. Join us on Thursday, July 24 from 2:00-3:00 in the Baker Room. Sign up for 11-17 year olds starts on June 30th online.

Robots on the RunAugust 7th 2:00-4:00Space is limited! Sign up online starting June 30th foranyone 11-17.

The Rhode Island Computer Museumwill present a free Workshop called"Robots on the Run." The workshopaims to explain basic circuits andinstructions on how to build a simplerobot. You will learn instructions formaking sounds, making lights blink,motors run, and a lot more. We'll take

time to learn about interactive software titled "Arduino"and you can create your own sample "Robot."

We have a display of the Smithfield High School and Gallagher Middle School reading list books in the Young Adult Area.

Children’s Department

Bedtime Storytimefor 3-5 1/2 year olds

Join us for Bedtime Story-time on Wednesday eve-nings, from 6:30-7:15 pm beginning July 9th. Regis-tration is required and will be taken the week before each of the following pro-grams: July 9, July 16, July 23, July 30, August 6 and 13. Children may wear their pajamas.

Book BuddiesSeveral teens are volunteering to team up with young readers in the Summer Reading Program on Tuesdays 10:30-11:15 am and 6:30-7:15 pm. Children ages 4-8 years old may sign up to read with a teen weekly to earn reading credit toward the incentives! Buddy sessions will begin on July 1 and continue on July 8, 15, 22, 29 and August 5. Children will remain in the library with their buddy for the full 45 minutes. They may bring a book they are currently reading or choose one at the library the day of their reading session. Register for one or more weekly sessions.

Crafts That Float and BoomCome to the library on Mon-day, July 14th and Friday, August 1st at 10:30 a.m. for some fun science related crafts. Children ages 6-11 may register for these pro-grams beginning June 30.

Art with Miss AdeleChildren ages 6-10 will use various art mediums in an encouraging creative envi-ronment under the direction of Adele Karbowski, artist and teacher. Registration begins June 30 for this Friday morning program to be held on July 11 and July 25 for two sessions from 10:30-11:30 and 11:45-12:45 and on August 8 from 10:30-11:30.

Fizz Boom Write!Are you in third, fourth or fifth grade? Do you have ideas bouncing around inside your head like fire-crackers? Do you love to read and write? Join us for four sessions of fun writing activities where you will develop a really cool character and plan an amazing story with the help of Smithfield teach-er and author, Christine Depetrillo! Sessions are Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on July 10, 17, 24 and 31. Please bring a notebook, pen or pencil and your imagination. Registration is limit-ed to 20 children and will begin on June 30 for all sessions.

Stomp Rockets With Miss Babs and

Miss RhondaLearn how to make your own stomp rocket and fly it! Chil-dren ages 8-14 years of age who are signed up for the children or teen program can register for this program full of POP! The program will take place in the front yard of the library on July 10 from 3:00-4:30 p.m. Rain date will be July 15 from 3:00-4:30 p.m.

Art and Science Shadow Theatre

Storyteller Clare Vadebon-coeur will explore “light and dark” using both Shadow Theater and traditional story-telling. Through a fun explo-ration of hand and puppet shadows, children will learn how light interacts with matter. Registration for children ages 4-11 begins on June 30 for this program which will take place on Wednesday, July 16 at 10:30 a.m.

Family Movie NightCome to the library for fun-filled movies on the big screen on Monday, July 7 and Thursday, July 24. Doors will open at 5:30 with the show beginning at 6:00 p.m. Children ages 6-11 are invited to attend with a parent/caregiver. Free popcorn will be pro-vided! Registration begins June 30.

Ronald's Reading is WOW! Show

Ronald McDonald will offer families with children ages 3-8 a 30 minute show filled with magic, audience participation and surprises! Registration begins July 1 for the show which takes place on Wednes-day, July 23 at 1:00 p.m.

Paws to Read!Does your child need practice in reading skills? Here’s an opportunity to practice this summer with a therapy dog who LOVES to listen to stories. Children ages 6-11 may sign up for one 20 minute session per week. Sessions will be held on Mon-days; June 30 and July 14, 21, and 28 from 6:30-7:30 p.m., with registration beginning on June 23 for all sessions.

Magic at the LibraryJoin in the fun with The Great Baldini on Wednesday, July 30 at 2:00 p.m. He will be performing magical tricks that sizzle with science! Registra-tion for this program will begin on July 16.

Mad Science Did you know that science is all around us? A mad scien-tist who will visit the library on Monday, August 4 at 10:30 a.m. will prove just that. His mission is to spark the imag-ination and curiosity of chil-dren. Ages 4-10 are invited to register for this program beginning July 16.

Summer StoriesChildren in grades K-5th are invited to the library to hear stories and create a related craft with edu-cators from Smithfield schools. These fun-filled storytimes will take place on Tuesdays, July 8, 15, 22 and 29 and August 12 at 1:00 p.m. Registration begins on June 30.

Children’s BubbleThe O’Conner children, ages seven and nine, will display their Outdoor Fairy Garden. This fun collection includes a fairy land with fairies and fairy houses.
