Lubrizol driving a "Greener Logistics" within Europe

In line with Lubrizol's global goal to drive our CO2 emissions down, the European Transportation, Logistics & Compliance group has been closely working with different internal and external partners in order to seek opportunities to cut carbon dioxide emissions when moving materials from one location to another.

In November 2012, a joined project started with the Oevel manufacturing team in Belgium to jointly seek opportunities of moving materials more efficiently serving the Engineered Polymers and CPVC Piping Systems business divisions to our global customers from this facility on an annual basis.

During the course of the project we identified an opportunity to improve the overall efficiency of transportation by moving these shipments by barge rather than by road to and from the port of loading.

This will bring Lubrizol the following benefits : Save on CO2 emission on an annual basis (reduction by 37%) Optimize the transportation cost (reduction by 8%) Offer multiple sailing departures

In order to bring this project to effect we had to identify a suitable partner that could not only bring the benefits we were seeking but at the same time assure us of :

A proper execution Guaranteed high-level service and tracking Interface with the different steamship lines

Beverdonk Container Terminal, part of DP World, was selected as the primary partner for Lubrizol to implement this project.

Since the implementation on July 1, 2013 the project has proven to be successful due to the hard work of a team dedicated to reducing our carbon footprint and continuing to optimize our supply chain, but at the same time dedicated in finding ways to save the planet.

Confirming this is Rob Harrison, managing director of DP World Belgium, "With this partnership Lubrizol, as one of the bigger companies in this area, have shown that they are truly committed to become a more efficient company when moving products from one location to another. For us Lubrizol, who has since become one of our main customers at the Beverdonk Terminal, is seen as an innovative company willing to optimize their supply chain in working together with their different partners. We are therefore looking forward to the close collaboration between both of our companies and believe that others will certainly follow Lubrizol's example."
