Provide direct pedestrian access across lake outlet stream from parking lot. *(See Appendix F- Beach Access Improvements) Hillside Picnic Area > • Improve the Hillside Picnic Area including stormwater management and the enhancement of the surfacing to reduce soil erosion. Tulip Hill Picnic Area > • Improve the Tulip Hill Picnic Area. The quantities and locations of grills and picnic tables will be reassessed and improved as needed. • Remove approximately half of the CCC picnic tables providing additional space between the remaining tables. • Improve access to the Beach Area. Lakeview Picnic Area > • Improve the Lakeview Picnic Area. • Construct a permanent shelter that is compatible with park architecture. Maintenance Area • Expand to the area currently occupied by the Park Police upon their relocation. • Relocate fuel storage tanks to the Capital Facilities Construction Crew Headquarters. Education Center/Reserve Shelter n • Improve drainage. • Short-term goal – Continue use as a reservable shelter and staging area for educational activities. • Long–term goal - Construct an education center adjacent to the Reserve Shelter area. CLASSIFICATION • The Park is a Recreation Park. DESIGNATIONS Bird Conservation Area • Designate the western half of the park as a Bird Conservation Area (Figure 17). Park Preservation Area Designate a Park Preservation Area. The designation includes the Old Growth area in the National Natural Landmark and the area surrounding Round Lake (Figure 16). Pine Woods Campground ! Improve the Pine Woods Campground including campsite surfacing upgrades, an increase in the vegetative buffer between campsites where possible, grading and drainage improvements to reduce the soil erosion into the lake and improved signage. Upgrade the existing electric hookup system and provide additional electric service to existing sites where possible. Golf Course F • Improve golf course including the rehabilitation of bunkers and golf cart pathways, the redesign of the golf cart parking area on the 18th tee, and construction of a pavilion. • Improvements shall be consistent with Robert Trent Jones design. • Continue to improve interior and exterior of the clubhouse. • Redesign the clubhouse patio area. 0 0.25 0.5 0.75 1 0.125 MILES NATURAL RESOURCE PROTECTION Lake Habitat Management • Continue to develop strategies to protect the habitat of both lakes to limit introduction of aquatic invasive species. • Continue to limit stocking of fish to Green Lake. • Continue to limit boating to rental boats on Green Lake. • Manage erosion around the lakes. • Construct viewing/fishing platforms on Green Lake to reduce lake edge erosion. • Continue water quality testing and, if needed, mitigate impacts. • Continue active protection of Round Lake as a National Natural Landmark. Wetland Management • Continue to monitor wetlands for impacts. • Improve Brookside trail to reduce erosion. • Develop strategies for the management and removal of phragmites. Grassland Management • Implement the Grassland Management Plan (Appendix H). Invasive Species Management • Develop strategies to protect significant forest types from invasive species and fragmentation. Sustainability l • Improve sustainable practices in the daily operations of the park and throughout the implementation of the master plan. • Construct recycling stations in campgrounds. Interpretation and Education n • Improve certain structures to include educational information. • Construct an education center in the Reserve Shelter area. Scenic Resource Protection A • Consider scenic vistas throughout the park in all projects. • Construct viewing platforms around Green Lake. Cultural Resource Protection • Rehabilitation and/or modification of historic structures and certain ground disturbing activities will be done in consultation with OPRHP Field Services Bureau (FSB) staff. • Protection of the cultural resources will be accomplished on a case by case basis. Storm Water Management • Include stormwater management in all master plan designs and park construction projects. Trails r Upgrade and maintain trails per the 2010 Green Lakes State Park Trails Plan (Appendix B). Key components of the plan include the following. • Allow hiking and running on all existing, newly developed and newly designated trails. • Increase mountain biking loop opportunities. Allow cross country skiing and snowshoeing throughout the trail system in winter months. Provide appropriate signs for winter use to encourage proper trail etiquette. • Upgrade appropriate trail connections between high use areas. • Improve access to the trails in the western half of the park to encourage use of these trails while reducing overuse and environmental degradation on and around the lake trails. • Construct trailhead adjacent to the campground road. • Improve the lake trails. • Improve trailhead and trail intersection signage throughout the park to enhance the visitor experience and increase patron safety. • Enhance access to and interpretation of cultural and historical resources within the park. • Upgrade or realign unsustainable sections of trails to reduce erosion and environmental degradation of park resources.
