That victory over theLions was obviously im-portant for Green Bayrsquos

playoff positioning Hadthe Packers lost theyrsquod belooking up at Minnesotain the NFC North stand-ings and wouldrsquove beenone more loss away frompotentially being out ofthe postseason picture al-together Instead GreenBayrsquos win along with the

Vikingsrsquo Week 13 loss hasthe Packers in position to

win the d ivision and host a wild-card round game

But all of the momen-tum will be for naught ifGreen Bay doesnrsquot use itto put together a good runin the final four games ofthe regular season Thatimportant stretch begins

with a matchup Sundayafternoon against a con-founding Dallas Cowboysteam

On one hand the Cow-

boys are 4-8 a clear indica-tion that theyrsquore simply nota good team Dallas hadbeen 0-8 in games with-out Tony Romo startingbefore finally winning thispast weekend with a dif-ferent quarterback (MattCassel) Still somehow ina season in which the NFCEast is the worst division

Jordy Nelsonrsquos absence has been prime-suspect No 1 for why Green Bayrsquos offenseisnrsquot what fans have come to expect Alsonear the top of the list has been the changein offensive play-callers with Mike McCar-thy surrendering that job responsibility toTom Clements after last season

Itrsquos not that the Packersrsquo offense hasbeen quiet for all 60 minutes i n every gamesince their Week 7 bye During this recentstretch in which Green Bay has a 2-4 re-cord Rodgers led the offense to 22 second-half points in Carolina and 27 second-halfpoints in Detroit But in both of thosegames and in several others those scor-ing outbursts have been accompanied bynumerous unproductive drives

In 2013 McCarthyrsquos Green Bay Packers were in the midst of a four-game winningstreak when quarterback Aaron Rodgerssustained a broken collarbone during theopening series of the home game vs Chi-cago Green Bay lost that game part of a2-5-1 swoon with Rodgers on the sidelineand Seneca Wallace Scott Tolzien andMatt Flynn trying to ll his shoes

In 2015 Romo suffered a broken col-

larbone during the Week 2 game vs Phila-delphia Garrettrsquos Cowboys won that gameto improve to 2-0 but lost their next sevengames with Brandon Weeden and MattCassel at quarterback a skid stopped

when Romo returned to beat Miami Thefollowing week on Thanksgiving vs Caro-lina Romo broke the collarbone again
