Incomplete information on test marks isconsidered to be misleading advertising andrecently led to a ruling by the Higher RegionalCourt of Düsseldorf, Germany.

Unfortunately this has now created an urgent need totake mandatory action regarding the legally acceptabledesign of test marks.

In the future, test marks used in consumer advertising must,without exception, include a reference.

That reference must always provide a short summary of the testsconducted, along with test criteria that the consumer can clearly understand.

issuing generic IDs to its customers for products as of

January 1st, 2016.

test marks which are valid in Germany/Europe.

Under those IDs, your partners and customers will find

specific information about the test content and certificates.

In the future, all testing services providers must present test content in

terms that consumers can understand and they must summarize it clearly.

That’s why, effective immediately, we are reviewing all test content described

in Certipedia. If you wish, we can make your ID more attractive with

additional content (e.g. in the form of an upgrade from a Basic ID to a Plus ID

with photos, contact data, etc.). Such upgrades are available for a fee.

You can continue to use your test marks, including the ones with

generic IDs, as long as the relevant certificate remains valid.

For test marks used in consumer advertising, we strongly

recommend conversion, in order to comply with the

court’s ruling.

You can, of course, have your existing certificates

converted voluntarily at any time for a fee.

Beginning January 1st, 2016, any new certificates you

receive will include test marks with individual IDs only.
