GRAPHIC PRODUCTS
YR 10 & YR 11 GCSE
Do you like being creative?
Can you think differently?
Can you be imaginative?
Do you like to make?
Design as a career?
Our world is full of products that use
drawings, words and pictures to bring
designs alive. CD & DVD covers, adverts,
packaging, point of sale display units,
architectural models, logos, greetings
cards, leaflets, books, TV and film titles,
websites are all graphic products. The
Graphic Products Course gives students
an opportunity to explore this interesting
and fast moving area of design. Students
will develop both hand and ICT skills,
designing and making a range of graphic
products

Product Design or Graphic Products or Textiles
Very few subjects
have this much
coursework!
The Year 10 course will give
students an opportunity to learn
and develop a range of hand and
ICT skills. We will:
Develop graphical knowledge and
understanding e.g. colour theory,
typography, layout & finishing
techniques.
Design and make graphic products
e.g. Packaging & Leaflets whilst
developing CAD techniques.
Learn about the different materials
used to make graphic products.
Investigate in depth, the work of
two famous graphical designers
identified by the exam board.
This experience will give them the
essential knowledge and skills they
need for the NEA project in year 11.

Naturally throughout Yr 10, we aim to enhance the students’ ICT ability. The
projects that are embedded within the course encourage rapid progression
and confidence using ICT. Do not forget, we aim for a well rounded student,
every idea starts with a hand drawn design!
Yr 10 Logos!
September 2020 will be the
beginning of the NEA (non-
examined Assessment )
(NEA = Coursework)
A single NEC project based on 3
‘Contextual Challenges’ set by the
examination board (WJEC) 50%
A single 2 hour examination that
tests the student’s CORE
knowledge in addition to technical
detail knowledge of Graphic
Products and Materials (50%)
The exam very much links back to
all of the knowledge the students
learn and implement in Yr 10.
Non-Examined Assessment are
completed in lesson time, whilst
also giving the freedom to students
to take Sketch books home to
continue developing their ideas.

to develop their ICT design skills
throughout Yr 10, in order to produce high quality work as part
of their Yr 11 practical work!
Luckily, EVERY student has had
plenty of experience using our design suite, CorelDraw,
throughout Yr 7, 8 AND 9!
ESPECIALLY YR 9!!!
