• Joint effort by Temple University & the City• Small scale– Single renovation project

Time Frame• Break Ground August 1st, 2011

– Remove all impervious surfaces• August 15th

– Install permeable pavement walkways, bring in soil• August 22nd

– Plant grass, vegetation, replant any dead trees, install trash/recycling receptacles, place tables/ benches

– Leave planted area fenced off from public• August 22nd- October 1st

– Tend to new vegetation• March 17th, 2012

– Grand Opening

Our time frame is based around the prime fall planting season for the new grass and vegetation. Once the area has been deconstructed and prepped, it is only a matter of insuring the flora has time to settle in and mature. Once that has occurred by the next Spring, the new park area will be ready for use by the community.

Project Budget

• Phase 1- $6000 labor, $3000 tool/truck rental• Phase 2- $3000 labor, $2500 permeable pavers

& topsoil• Phase 3- $600 for supervisor of volunteer

planters, $1500 for plants/grass, $1000 for recycling/trash & seating

• Phase 4- $1600 labor, $50 for temporary fencing• TOTAL- $19,250

ConclusionWhen the new green park is completed and open to the public in Spring 2012 it will have already had an affect on the community. It will have provided paying construction/ landscaping jobs, as well as strengthened community relationships through volunteerism. After opening, the park will serve as an area of escape and recreation for the community. As a area that promotes community gathering, the park will help reduce crime. The availability of green space will promote health and wellness amongst the community. Additionally, it will beautify the area and help represent the Temple campus to visitors exiting the subway. The complete use of permeable surfaces will drastically reduce runoff, protecting the roads and the subway station from flooding. The park will prevent costly damage to the subway in the area, as well as damage to the roads due to runoff. Overall, utilizing the area on the N.E. corner of Cecil B. Moore & Broad is advantageous for all involved.
