PTSA Mission & Goals 2013-2014
MissionTo create and foster opportunities that enrich and support our children,
school, and community.
Goals• Promote awareness of the school as an integral part of our community.• Expand and maintain our volunteer base by welcoming new people to
take on volunteer opportunities at the school.• Conduct purposeful fundraising to support Grand Ridge students,
programs, and events.• Create opportunities to foster social connections and cultural awareness.• Enrich the education of our students in literacy, health, and nutrition.• Inform our school community about what the PTSA does and the benefits
of being a PTSA member to promote, maintain, and support 100% membership.
• Maintain effective lines of communication within our school community.• Assist Grand Ridge staff by offering volunteer support.• Foster community awareness of parent education opportunities.• Educate the Grand Ridge community on ways to advocate effectively for
the education, health, and safety of our children.

• More than 140 families have donated and more than $14,000 will go towards classroom enrichment costs
• Uses include:• Bringing in expert presenters• Offering hands-on experiences• Subsidizing field trips
• Great example is the Pioneer Farm Museum travelling exhibit to be brought in by the 3rd grade teachers

Advocacy• McCleary Decision Update
• On Sept. 11, 2014, the State Supreme Court held the State Legislature in contempt of court in the McCleary school funding case because the Legislature has failed to because the legislature has failed to submit a plan to fully fund basic education by the 2017-18 school year.
• The court will allow the Legislature to “purge the contempt” and avoid sanctions by taking appropriate action during its 2015 legislative session.
• WSPTA's annual legislative issues survey is live -- please take the survey by Sept. 30 and tell us what issues are most important to you!
• Legislative Assembly Oct. 24-25 at Hilton Hotel in Vancouver, WA• The WSPTA prepares a legislative platform with Top 5 and
supported policy issues at the beginning of every legislative biennium.
• Don't forget to register to vote for the Nov. 4 election!• You can register online until October 6, and in person until
October 27.
